What a user gets

A row created before its seat's pane was bound records its wake as unroutable. The stuck sweep then reported it as an undelivered wake that nothing retried: the seat spent a turn on a false finding, and the work row's own wake was never sent. Now, once that destination has a terminal binding, the sweep sends the row's wake through the ordinary wake path instead of reporting it. (#2151, the first case.)

The change

In queue-stuck-sweep.ts's undelivered loop, for an agent wake whose result is unroutable:, when the destination now classifies as pane-bound, the sweep delivers the row's own durable wake intent and skips the finding this tick: it claims that intent, sends, and settles it delivered together with the row's result, so the outbox drain doesn't send the wake again. If the intent is already sending or delivered, the sweep sends nothing.

  • A failed send is still reported: the next tick reads the new result.
  • If the result didn't change (for example, with no transport), the row is reported as before.
  • The retry ladder and quiet hours are untouched: a row with a live ladder is left to it, and a quiet-hours hold keeps its existing skip.
  • An address that still has no binding (a mistyped address, or a hosted member with no trigger) is reported as before.

Tests

queue-stuck-sweep.test.ts: a row created for a seat with no binding records unroutable:. After the binding is written, the sweep sends the wake, the row's result is no longer unroutable, and no finding is raised.

Proof (CI)

  • Fails before the fix: the first commit has only the test. Its run (https://github.com/mvschwarz/openrig/actions/runs/40472696835) fails exactly that test: package-tests (daemon) 1 failed, 22,639 passed. The row's result stays unroutable:. On that code the seat is woken only by the sweep's finding, not by its work. The other jobs pass.
  • Passes with it: this PR's CI.

Cost: source +9, test +23. No new refusal or setting.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Undelivered notices previously marked as unroutable are now retried when their destination becomes available. When delivery succeeds, they are no longer treated as unroutable or flagged for follow-up.
    • Prevented duplicate wake deliveries for notices already marked as sending or delivered, including when queued delivery processing occurs later.

Walkthrough

The sweep now retries an unroutable non-human wake when its destination becomes pane-bound and no live ladder exists. If the retry clears the unroutable result, the sweep skips finding creation for that pass. Tests cover direct resend, durable wake-intent delivery, and sending or delivered intent states.

Changes: Unroutable wake retry

Layer / File(s) Summary
Retry and finding suppression
packages/daemon/src/domain/queue-stuck-sweep.ts, packages/daemon/test/queue-stuck-sweep.test.ts
The sweep retries an eligible unroutable wake before the existing ladder check. Tests verify retry after a destination binding is added, durable-intent delivery without a later duplicate send, and no resend when the intent is already sending or delivered.

Some newly routable wakes may be delivered incorrectly, retried unnecessarily, or left without the intended resend, so these delivery-path issues should be fixed before merging.

Recheck the row before retrying.

findUndelivered() returns a snapshot. While the sweep is awaiting maybeNudge for another row, a claim or reroute can change this row. maybeNudge then sends the snapshot destination and unconditionally records the result by qitemId. The transport guard checks seat delivery readiness, not the queue row's current state, claim, or destination.

Make this retry use a concurrency-safe current-row check before sending. Skip it when the state, claim, or destination no longer matches the snapshot. Record the result only when the row still matches those expected values.

Retry through the existing wake intent.

The sweep calls maybeNudge, which updates the queue row but does not claim or finalize the durable wake intent. The recovery drain can later redeliver that failed intent and overwrite a successful row result with a failure.

Use deliverWakeForSuccessor so the durable intent path owns the claim and finalization.

With durable wake intents attached, the re-send must go through the
row's own intent: it reads delivered afterwards and a later startup
drain sends nothing. An intent already sending or delivered is not
sent again. Tests only; the change follows.

Round 1: with durable wake intents, maybeNudge sent the wake and
recorded the row's result but left the intent failed, so the next
startup drain could wake the seat again. deliverWakeForSuccessor
claims and settles the row's intent (and falls back to maybeNudge
with no intent store), so an intent in flight or already settled
is not sent twice.

Suppress the unclaimed finding for this retry pass.

If the row has been pending longer than the unclaimed-age threshold, a successful retry still leaves it eligible for the unclaimed-obligation loop later in this sweep. That loop can create and wake a finding immediately after the successful resend. Track successful retries and exclude them from that loop for this pass. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

With an outbox attached, a create's wake runs after its commit, so the row
create returns predates it and carries no result yet. The fixture now waits
for the wake intent to settle (failed, unroutable) and reads the row back.

When the row's wake intent is already sending or delivered, the row still
raises the sweep's finding. Those cases route the finding to an orchestrator,
so the seat's terminal sees only the row's own wake, and check that the row
records no new wake attempt.

Resolve the current wake intent before retrying.

With an outbox, deliverWakeForSuccessor constructs only wake-intent-${successorQitemId}. deliverWakeIntent does not search other intent IDs, so an auto-unpark wake using wake-intent-blocker-${resumeTransitionId} can be skipped. If an older standard intent remains retryable, the retry can deliver that intent instead of the current blocker intent.

Update wake-intent selection to resolve the current retryable intent, including blocker and legacy intents. This is separate from excluding successful retries from the later unclaimed-finding loop; that exclusion does not change intent selection.

Assert that the sending/delivered test finds the orchestrator finding.

The sending and delivered case has no assertion that the sweep ran. Its three checks (no send to late@r, the intent state unchanged, lastNudgeAttempt unchanged) also hold if the sweep returns early. The comment above the test says the finding goes to orch@r, but no assertion checks it.

Approved at 4fb5c25. The stuck sweep now re-sends a wake recorded unroutable once its seat has a terminal binding, through the row's own durable wake intent, so the intent settles delivered with the row's result and a later drain sends nothing; existing skips, ladders, quiet hours and the still-unroutable report are unchanged. Two independent source reviews (Claude and Codex) over two rounds are clear at this head. Required CI passes at this head.
