Problem

A workflow whose email domain is not verified sends the person to the channels page to fix it. They leave the workflow, finish the domain setup elsewhere, and then must find the workflow again to turn it on. Nothing in the domain setup says the workflow can be enabled while DNS is checked.

This is a slice of "send once verified" (Silthus/personal#197), stacked on #618.

  • Opens the email domain setup as a modal over the workflow editor. The shared setup modal gains optional props; the channels page passes none of the new ones and renders as before.
  • The riskiest part is the refresh when the setup closes: it reads the workflow again and applies a go-live that happened meanwhile. A stale answer that lands after the setup closed is dropped.
  • The worst case is an Enable that does not save, or a status that stays stale until a reload. No backend change, no migration.
  • This PR lands together with the slices below and above it in one merge-queue batch.

Changes

  • Domain setup over the workflow. "Check domain status" and "Set up a domain" in the status bar open the email domain setup as a modal over the workflow, titled for that workflow. With several pending domains, it opens the first one.
  • Enable from the setup. While DNS is checked, the setup offers "Enable and send once verified". Once the domain verifies, it offers "Enable workflow". "Back to workflow" closes it.
  • The Enable action is disabled with a reason when the person is a viewer, the email step has no sender, a step has errors, or the workflow is not saved yet.
  • Fresh status on close. Closing the setup reloads the senders and the workflow, so the notice and the workflow's status match what happened during the setup.
  • While you wait card. The verifying step of the domain setup, on the channels page too, shows "Turn on your workflows now" with a link to the workflows list. It hides once verification stops.
  • Mechanical: EmailDomainSetupModal takes integrationId, entry, description and next, and ReadyStep takes the card to show next.

The setup over the workflow is new, so there is no before. Taken on a seeded preview of the stack top, with the domain status answered in the browser because the local stack has no SES. The walk log is in proof storage.

Production lines: 385 (+338 −47) with inline kea typegen, against the base branch, by git diff --numstat. Tests and stories are excluded.

Together with the slices above, replaces PostHog#123661.

How did you test this code?

  • Lane gate on HEAD: frontend typecheck clean, every Jest suite under products/workflows/frontend passed, oxlint and oxfmt clean on the changed files, and the pre-push hogli ci:preflight --strict hook passed.
  • Red → green: each new case failed on the base branch and passes on HEAD, including the design-pass fix.

Test rationale:

  • WorkflowSenderDomainSetupModal.test.tsx (new): opened from the status bar, the setup enables a draft while DNS is checked and closes over the workflow; it says why a sender-less workflow, a viewer, or an already waiting workflow cannot be enabled; it offers "Enable workflow" once verified. The setup runs against FakeEmailDomainBackend.
  • workflowLogic.sendOnceVerified.test.ts: the notice carries the domain's sender; several domains open the first; closing the setup refreshes the notice; a domain that verified while the setup was open goes live on close; a status answer that lands after the setup closed is dropped.
  • EmailDomainScene.test.tsx: the verifying step shows the "Turn on your workflows now" card and its link, and the stopped step does not.

Test seams: workflowLogic against the mocked HogFlow REST API; the WorkflowStatusBar and WorkflowSenderDomainSetupModal render tests with FakeEmailDomainBackend; the EmailDomainScene render test.

Prod shape Gap, accepted by the standing rule until 2026-11-02.
Post-deploy watch Owed after the stack merges and deploys.
CI Gap: fork CI cannot run. The lane gate ran locally and on the leased box. Fork checks are red as on #614: Semgrep cannot run without the fork secret, and the lane check diffs against master, so it counts slices lower in the stack.

Release status

  • This change is behind a feature flag and is not available to users

The status-bar entry and the domain setup need workflows-email-domain-wizard.

The status bar's sender domain notice opens the email domain setup in a
modal over the workflow. While DNS is checked, the setup offers
"Enable and send once verified"; once the domain is verified it offers
"Enable workflow". It says why when the workflow cannot be enabled yet.
Closing the setup refreshes the senders and takes a go-live that happened
while it was open. The wizard page's verifying step offers to turn on
workflows now. Ported from PostHog#123661 with its tests.

What the toolbar ships to customer pages, measured from the esbuild output (minified, post-tree-shake). The eager set is the entry plus everything statically imported from it — fetched before any feature runs; deferred chunks load lazily. The eager guardrail is 5.72 MiB. Each output file must also stay below 10 MB, where CloudFront stops compressing it. The module boundary is enforced separately by check-toolbar-graph.
