Bots need to retain an objective while healing, defending themselves, or waiting for a cast. The existing tick only selected the next immediate action.

Add a durable controller selector and a typed, bounded decision runner. Cohort returns home through the normal Package tick and retains the objective across real interruptions. RecordOnly records decisions without gameplay; Frozen cancels Package-owned work. Current Account ownership protects human actions. Due bots run in stable batches of 16 and leave excess work due. Each bot retains one foreground action and a bounded explanation history.

Recovery scans at most 24 indexed rotation rows per pass and retains its progress and completed result. Exact learned-spell lookup and current-row checks prevent false missing-spell results and stale eligibility. Incoming damage records the attacker for defense. Quest catalogs and companion policy remain downstream.

Additive roster defaults keep existing bots on Legacy. CI builds the pinned preceding Wasm in a separate target directory, populates real rows, then upgrades that private database. Core ownership and consent are merged in #484. The exact spellbook lookup and new runtime cases are merged in #486. CI follows Core main and preserves the immutable preceding migration pins.

Validation at Core a4b5518 and Package dba96bb: clean union library suites passed 1,631 tests and 1,632 with debug reducers; 37 real action/runner cases, two personality cases, and five consent cases passed. This includes populated preceding-Wasm migration and all six correction cases. Every runtime input records clean source and the same Wasm identity. Both independent standards and specification reviews are clear. All paired CI jobs passed, including the 37-case durable suite. CodeRabbit completed a full review of dba96bb; all threads are resolved. A stronger grid readback test also passed separately at Core 4f45007 with the same Package source. Final PR CI at 62c4597 against merged Core main passed all 37 cases and uploaded its evidence. Its only source-tree change restores the three current-Core checkout refs and labels. The duplicate push job passed all tests but hit HTTP 403 while finalizing artifacts; its single job retry is running.

Implemented with GPT-6 Astra in the Codex harness. Independent standards review uses GPT-5.6 Sol; specification review uses GPT-6 Astra.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

This change adds a durable playerbot runner with controller modes, bounded decision selection, persistent scheduling, action execution, event hooks, deterministic fixture reducers, and documentation. CI now builds paired and preceding revisions for durable migration validation.

Changes

Playerbot runner

Layer / File(s) Summary
Paired build and durable upgrade setup
.github/workflows/core-tip.yml
CI pins LyraCore jobs to paired revisions. The durable job builds the preceding Wasm module and exports it for migration testing.
Bounded decision engine
playerbots/src/decision.rs
Adds typed actions, strategies, readiness states, bounded recursive search, deterministic ranking, refusal reporting, and tests.
Persistent runner and scheduler flow
playerbots/src/runner.rs
Adds controller modes, persistent objectives, scheduling, progress tracking, cancellation, retries, movement, casting, combat, and event hooks.
Roster and legacy-policy integration
playerbots/src/mod.rs, playerbots/src/goals.rs, playerbots/src/actions.rs
Adds controller and scheduler fields, due indexes, sessionless consent, runner dispatch, Legacy gating, and the shared observation helper.
Runner fixtures and durable contract
playerbots/src/fixture.rs, playerbots/README.md
Adds fixture reducers for staging, damage, scheduling, survival, navigation, and objective expiry. Documents controller behavior, limits, lifecycle rules, migration fields, and durable testing.

Priority: ➖ Normal — Schedule the durable playerbot controller change because it broadly affects objective retention, decision execution, scheduling, recovery, and gameplay behavior without urgent external impact evidence.

Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~60 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to dba96

After upgrading, existing Legacy bots can stop acting. Backfill sessionless-action consent before merge.

Source review is complete for core 41488bfe8fecae21498371e172969c01948e7bc2 and Package 584d01b00b2b241b6d5667bb810b49af0430d634.

Standards

No remaining findings. Actions now carry their required data, home movement has an explicit target type, Candidate terminology matches the glossary, and the core owns the route expansion limit. Strategy defaults and priority adjustments remain because PB-002 explicitly requires them.

Spec

No remaining source findings. Review found and checked fixes for Survival bypassing destination deferral, false stalls during tactical movement, and repeated cycle refusal being mistaken for prerequisite completion. The final serializer correction preserves action data, dispatch, and ordering.

The strengthened tactical case pursues away from home, so an arrival-stage change cannot mask the old stall. The ownership case exercises an Account Claim while online is still false and preserves a later human cast.

Final checks are running from clean, fixed commits. Merge still waits for their results, the populated upgrade, and current CI. Earlier runs that overlapped source edits are excluded from final source-identity evidence.

Independent standards review used GPT-5.6 Sol; specification review used GPT-6 Astra in Codex. The orchestrator reviewed the complete final encoding correction against both axes.

Source review is clear for core a4b551893897c647b2cc1dfc6d7f1f2e2b375081 and Package dba96bb1a5366d5f779f1b66820931583f426419.

The independent standards review checked the core spell lookup, Recovery Scan glossary and row lifetime, explicit rotation identifiers, and separated regressions. No findings remain.

The independent specification review checked bounded scanning, retained-result validity, and foreground behavior. Its completed-negative rescan finding is fixed: a conclusive missing result permits useful work during later scans, and a later learned spell becomes eligible. The new regression checks both outcomes.

The reviewers covered Package 9e20aa66269c937cdd777a3cbf884837053c545e. The orchestrator reviewed the final workflow-only change to dba96bb against both axes. It pins the three current-core checkouts to the complete paired core revision and preserves immutable preceding migration inputs.

Default generation matched all 1,000 Gateway binding files, and the unchanged production core source passed 1,523 Module library tests. The full Package run and paired CI are still in progress; these source reviews do not claim their results.

Standards review used GPT-5.6 Sol; specification and orchestrator reviews used GPT-6 Astra in Codex.

Final correction verification passed at Core a4b5518 and Package dba96bb: 1,631 union library tests, 1,632 with debug reducers, 37 real action/runner cases, two personality cases, and five consent cases. Both source trees stayed clean and unchanged throughout the run.

The populated preceding-Wasm migration passed. All six new correction cases passed, including bounded late-known recovery lookup, retained-row eligibility changes, completed negative scans, large health values, targeted due helpers, and both terrain grid edges. The negative-scan case proves ReturnHome selection and an emitted spline request; existing arrival and tactical cases separately prove position advancement.

All 37 runtime input records identify the same saved Wasm, BLAKE3 dba4d702a0320e360506f9698fa52e0ef7210ce1e8f9573928599a8e3e032279. Both independent correction reviews are clear. Current paired durable CI and CodeRabbit correction review remain pending.

Please review the current correction head dba96bb1a5366d5f779f1b66820931583f426419. All six original threads are resolved. Both independent correction reviews, the clean 37-case durable run, and all paired CI jobs passed. The previous full source assessment ended at 334ea46; the later blank review records acknowledge inline replies.

These reducers intentionally replace shared class-and-role rotation rows and must not run on a shared World Shard.

The final workflow delta dba96bb..62c4597 passes the orchestrator's Spec and Standards review.

It changes only the three current-core checkouts from the paired revision to main and updates their labels. Core #486 is merged as e6a755db0a150bbf73ad97b972fe829f20f6816c. The immutable preceding migration pins, separate preceding build directory, and disabled checkout credentials remain intact. Gameplay and fixture source are unchanged.

The final CI run against merged core is still required before Package merge. The earlier full source reviews and runtime evidence remain tied to their recorded revisions.

Reviewed with GPT-6 Astra in Codex.

The final PR run is green at branch 62c4597. It passed all 37 real cases, including populated migration and the stronger grid cleanup assertion, and finalized its artifact upload. The orchestrator independently checked all 37 clean runtime inputs against core e6a755db0a150bbf73ad97b972fe829f20f6816c and actual Package merge d8d6d7c. The Package content identity matches the completed local and paired runs. All seven review threads are resolved.

The separate push run also passed all 37 tests. Its artifact service returned HTTP 403 during upload finalization afterward. That infrastructure failure is preserved in the log; a single retry is running. The completed PR run supplies the full behavior and artifact evidence required for integration. The orchestrator will continue to own the redundant push retry after merge.

Reviewed with GPT-6 Astra in Codex.

The separate push retry passed. Run 34250556649, retry job 102147886460, completed all 37 cases and finalized the playerbots-durable-evidence artifact successfully. This closes the earlier artifact-service HTTP 403 follow-up. No source or workflow changed for the retry.

The complete successful PR run remains the integration evidence recorded above. Both final runs are now green.
