Refs #216 (section 2, "Monetization managers"; the other sections stay open).

🧭 Context

Section 2 of the manager parity tracking issue: EntitlementManager, SubscriptionManager and the Entitlement, SKU and Subscription structures were missing, only the EntitlementResolvable type existed. It builds on client.application (#238) and uses resolveSKUId, which had no caller until now.

📚 Description

client.application.entitlements is a CachedManager like the others, so its cache follows ENTITLEMENT_CREATE, ENTITLEMENT_UPDATE and ENTITLEMENT_DELETE and is shared through the store (Redis included). sku.subscriptions is a fetch-only manager. Both follow discord.js's EntitlementManager.js, SubscriptionManager.js, Entitlement.js, Subscription.js and SKU.js.

Where this departs from the issue and the Pullfrog plan:

  • Cached entitlements, no plugin-cache change. The plan expected a new unmanaged store, operations and a plugin-cache changeset. plugin-cache already has the entitlements and subscriptions stores and applies the ENTITLEMENT_* and SUBSCRIPTION_* dispatches, so entitlements only had to become a managed entity (ManagedEntityNames), and the entitlementUpdate handler gets a DispatchStateCodecs entry for its before. The one test using entitlements as its "entity without a manager" example now uses subscriptions.
  • SUBSCRIPTION_* do exist in the installed discord-api-types (0.38.56), contrary to the plan. Subscriptions are still fetch-only as decided: nothing keeps a cached subscription fresh for the bot, and there are no subscription events. Caching them later is a manager change only, plugin-cache already stores them.
  • Option names follow discord.js, not the REST query names the issue lists: fetch({ user, guild, skus, excludeEnded, excludeDeleted, before, after, limit, cache }), createTest({ sku, user | guild }). Users, guilds and SKUs accept their structures or IDs.
  • fetch() returns a Collection when listing and a single entitlement for an entitlement or ID (cache first, force and cache options), as in discord.js. A user, guild or SKU that does not resolve rejects instead of silently listing everything.
  • ClientApplication also gets fetchSKUs() (the only way to obtain a SKU) and subscriptions(sku), for when only the SKU's ID is known. EntitlementResolvable, SKUResolvable and SubscriptionResolvable now accept the structures too.

Key changes

Area Change
Structures Entitlement (isActive, isTest, isUserSubscription, isGuildSubscription, fetchUser, consume, lazy guild and user), SKU (flags as a new SKUFlagsBitField, subscriptions), Subscription; all extend @discordjs/structures, with discord.js-named date aliases and equals() (false for foreign values)
Managers EntitlementManager (fetch, createTest, deleteTest, consume), SubscriptionManager (fetch one or a Collection)
Application client.application.entitlements, fetchSKUs(), subscriptions(sku)
Events entitlementCreate, entitlementUpdate (previous state, also over the dispatch-state codec for workers), entitlementDelete
Errors EntitlementCreateInvalidOwner
Tests tests/monetization.test.ts (structures, managers with a mocked client.api.monetization, dispatches in every cache mode and over a Redis store), a worker round trip in dispatch-state.test.ts, tests/types/monetization.ts
Docs README events table and a "Monetization" section; changeset (@wolfstar/plugin-gateway minor)

Type of Change

  • New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
  • Bug fix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue)
  • Breaking change (fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to not work as expected)
  • Documentation change
  • Workflow / CI change

Pre-flight Checklist

  • I have read the Contributing Guidelines (if applicable)
  • My code follows the code style of this project
  • I have added tests that prove my fix is effective or that my feature works
  • New and existing unit tests pass locally with my changes
  • I have updated the documentation accordingly
  • I added a changeset with pnpm changeset (or pnpm changeset add --empty if no release is needed). See .changeset/README.md.

Verification, run in order on the rebased branch: oxlint reports nothing in the changed files; oxfmt --check passes on them (on my Windows checkout it flags every file of the repo because of CRLF endings, so I checked the changed files alone); pnpm build passes; pnpm typecheck passes, with the new type-level test; pnpm test passes (122 files, 1757 tests).

Add the Entitlement, SKU and Subscription structures, and the monetization managers of
section 2 of #216.

- client.application.entitlements is an EntitlementManager, a cached manager fed by
  ENTITLEMENT_CREATE/UPDATE/DELETE (new entitlementCreate/Update/Delete events), with
fetch() for one entitlement or a filtered Collection, createTest(), deleteTest() and
  consume().
- client.application.fetchSKUs() returns the SKUs, and sku.subscriptions (or
  client.application.subscriptions(sku)) is a fetch-only SubscriptionManager.
- SKUFlagsBitField, the EntitlementCreateInvalidOwner error, and structure-accepting
  EntitlementResolvable, SKUResolvable and SubscriptionResolvable.

plugin-cache already stores the entitlements and applies their dispatches, so it is
untouched.

Tip

Set github.draw: on-demand in .github/pr-lens.yml and PR Lens stops drawing pull requests on its own. Comment @pr-lens draw on a pull request when you want that one drawn

🪧 More tips
  • Run npx skills add coldteadotai/pr-lens, then tell your coding agent: "Diagram the change you just made with PR Lens and attach it to the pull request."
  • Run npx @coldtea/pr-lens-cli analyze --base origin/main on a branch, then npx @coldtea/pr-lens-cli render .pr-lens/graph.json. Same lenses, your own model key, before the pull request exists
  • Click the link under each diagram to open it on a canvas you can zoom, pan and step through
  • The diagrams are links. Click one to open it on the canvas, then press W or click play to walk through the change
  • Open a diagram on the canvas, then press W or click play to walk through the change one step at a time
  • The CLI's render reads .github/pr-lens.yml and applies your renames, exclusions and lane pins at draw time
  • Set github.comment.collapsed: true in .github/pr-lens.yml to fold the comment behind one View architecture and data flow row. Drawing still runs as before
  • Add .github/workflows/pr-lens.yml with coldteadotai/pr-lens/packages/action@v0 and your model provider's key as its api-key to run PR Lens from your own CI. Any /chat/completions endpoint works
  • After a push, tick Redraw to draw the latest commit
  • Switch GitHub to dark mode and the diagrams follow. The moving dots are this pull request's data in motion

Reviewed changes

Reviewed the full diff of the single commit adding the monetization managers to plugin-gateway.

  • EntitlementManager: a CachedManager with cache-first fetch by ID or structure, filtered Collection listing, createTest, deleteTest and consume. Unresolvable filters reject instead of listing everything.
  • SubscriptionManager: fetch-only and never cached, reached through sku.subscriptions and application.subscriptions(sku).
  • Structures: Entitlement, SKU, Subscription and SKUFlagsBitField, with discord.js-style date aliases and equals() returning false for foreign values.
  • Dispatch and events: ENTITLEMENT_CREATE, _UPDATE and _DELETE handlers, the entitlementUpdate dispatch-state codec for workers, and the new events. plugin-cache already handles these dispatches (operations.ts), so only "entitlements" joins ManagedEntityNames.
  • Tests, docs and changeset: monetization.test.ts covers every cache mode and a shared Redis store, plus a worker round trip and a type-level test. I ran monetization.test.ts and dispatch-state.test.ts locally and all 77 tests pass.

Medium · Correctness

sku_ids: skus?.map(...).join(",") sends an empty filter for skus: []

In EntitlementManager.fetchMany, entitlements.fetch({ skus: [] }) builds sku_ids: "" instead of leaving the query without a SKU filter, so Discord filters the list to no SKUs while the caller meant to list every SKU’s entitlements.

Fix: Only build the field when the list is non-empty, e.g. sku_ids: skus?.length ? skus.map((sku) => this.requireSKUId(sku)).join(",") : undefined.
