Fixes #442

Description

In the Add Connection modal, typing a host containing the substring \cfg\ (e.g. \clustercfg.example.com, \configcache.internal, etc.) aggressively forced \ndpointType\ to switch from
ode\ to \cluster-endpoint\ (Discovery mode). This coerced the database dropdown to reset and locked it, with no way to recover without manually resetting the form.

This PR fixes #442 by:

  1. Removing the automatic forced switch on host input changes so the user's explicit endpoint selection (\Node\ vs \Discovery) is always respected.
  2. Adding a unit test in \connection-form.test.tsx\ ensuring typing hosts containing \cfg\ preserves the selected endpoint type and database configuration.

Testing

  • pm --workspace apps/frontend run lint: 0 errors

  • pm --workspace apps/frontend run test: 17 passed, 233 passed (100% green)

…t type (fixes valkey-io#442)

Walkthrough

The connection modal no longer automatically switches to Discovery when a host contains "cfg". It shows a hint when the selected endpoint type is Node. A test checks that the connection retains the Node endpoint type and selected database.

Changes: Connection endpoint selection

The modal preserves the selected endpoint type when the host contains "cfg" and shows a hint for Node endpoints. The test checks that the dispatched connection details retain the Node endpoint type and database index.

Explanation

Issue #442 requires that a host containing cfg does not force Discovery mode or reset the selected database. connection-modal.tsx updates only host on host input. It displays an advisory hint when Node mode and cfg match. The test verifies that Node mode and database 7 remain selected when the host changes to and from clustercfg.example.com, and that submission preserves endpointType: "node" and db: 7.

Explanation

The reviewed changes support issue #442. The advisory hint explains the existing cfg heuristic without changing form state. The test covers the required endpoint and database behavior. No unrelated change is shown in the reviewed files or change summary.

Hi @RajGahoi , Thanks for removing the forced switch; it is the right fix for #442. The issue's preferred approach is to keep the heuristic as advisory, so could you add a small inline hint in this PR?

Hi @RajGahoi, just wanted to follow up on your burst of contributions this week, and thank you for them! 17 PRs in three days is a lot of energy, so I want to make sure we give them a fair review rather than let them pile up. We're currently mid-refactor for 1.3.0 with limited review bandwidth this week, but rest assured we are going through them as quickly as possible. I took a quick look at the PRs and noticed that the 3 PRs implementing the Big Keys slot heatmap (#563, #570, #579) overlap heavily, we'll go through them and pick the best design to move forward with. Same goes for #566 and #578 that rework binary elements in collections. There may be some refactoring needed on your side, but we're confident this will lead to a better repo for all of us moving forward.

Moving forward, we'd appreciate if you create a Design Discussion before writing code for a new feature or a significant architectural change (as described in our CONTRIBUTING.md). This will ensure duplicate PRs are avoided, as well as saving you time, as we can fully sketch out a design together before committing to one, and needing to change it later.

None of this is a knock on the work you've done and we are thankful for the effort you've put towards Valkey Admin!

Hi @nassery318, thanks for the guidance! I've updated the PR in commit a69e468 to add the advisory inline hint under the Host input when endpointType is 'node' and host contains 'cfg', guiding the user to switch to Discovery if it's a cluster configuration endpoint without forcing or resetting their form state. All 233 frontend tests pass cleanly.

Cover the advisory state transitions in this test.

The test checks only the submitted payload for a cfg host. A regression that removes the Discovery hint, leaves the hint after cfg is removed, or changes the selected endpoint or database during removal can pass this test. Add assertions for both hint transitions and the preserved Node/database selections.
