fix(frontend): revert endpoint type when cfg is removed from host - #560
ayushdwivedi-stack wants to merge 2 commits into
Conversation
Typing a host containing 'cfg' in the Add Connection modal auto-switches the endpoint type to Discovery, but deleting or removing 'cfg' left the form stuck in Discovery mode. - Track auto-switch to Discovery using a ref and revert to Node mode when 'cfg' is removed from the host while still in Discovery mode. - Clear the auto-switch ref on manual endpoint type selection to preserve explicit user choices. - Add unit tests verifying auto-switch reversion and preservation of explicit Discovery selection. - Around line 139-141: Update the `hasCfg` endpoint-switch branch to preserve a
manually selected Node endpoint during subsequent host edits that still contain
`cfg`. Track the user's explicit Node selection separately from
`autoSwitchedRef` and skip the automatic switch to `cluster-endpoint` when that
override is active, while retaining the default auto-switch behavior otherwise.

When a user manually selects Node while the host already contains 'cfg', subsequent edits to the host field should not flip the endpoint type back to Discovery unless transitioning from a non-cfg host. - Check !prevHasCfg before auto-switching to cluster-endpoint. - Add test verifying explicit Node selection is preserved when editing a host that already contains 'cfg'. Thank you @ayushdwivedi-stack for working on this, and for addressing the CodeRabbit feedback with tests. We're going with #568, which removes the auto-switch entirely and replaces it with an advisory hint, as #442 suggests. That avoids the extra state and edge cases of switching back automatically. Closing in favour of that approach.
We look forward to more contributions from you. Thanks

Follow-up note: The host check currently matches any substring containing
cfg. A follow-up could narrow this to match.cfg.to avoid false positives on hostnames likecfg-node.internal.I used an AI assistant to help navigate the code and draft tests. I reviewed every change and ran lint, the frontend tests and the build myself.
