Description

@FreeApophis

union and closed hierarchies are finally in C# with .NET 11.

This also means we do not need the Funcky.DiscriminatedUnion anymore, with the 4.0.0 release I want to retire this Source Generator.

All current issues will be a child issue of this one and will be closed.

In the unlikely case that we need to support this any further, all currently active issues would be a child of this ticket.

    Grooming note, 21 Oct 2026: the generator lives in polyadic/funcky-discriminated-union (last release 1.2.0, Oct 2024; issues disabled there), so there are no child issues to collect here.

    3.8.0 preparation (the only part possible before .NET 11): announce the retirement so nobody is surprised in 4.0.0.

    • Note in the funcky-discriminated-union readme and package description that the generator is retired once C# unions ship, with Funcky 4.0.0.
    • A line in the 3.8.0 release notes pointing to this issue.

    The retirement itself stays in 4.0.0.
