In `@client/src/components/admin/analytics/charts/ViewsOverTimeChart.jsx`:
- Around line 20-28: Add keyboard accessibility to the drill-down elements in
the activeDot handler and the chart’s active dot: make each role="button" group
focusable with tabIndex={0}, and invoke onDrillDown for Enter and Space key
presses via onKeyDown while preserving the existing click behavior.
In `@client/src/components/admin/analytics/DrillDownModal.jsx`:
- Around line 44-46: Move role="dialog", aria-modal, and aria-labelledby from
the backdrop to the panel containing modalRef and the drill-down heading. Add a
keydown handler for that panel or modal container that traps Tab and Shift+Tab
within its focusable elements, cycling forward from the last element and
backward from the first without allowing focus to escape behind the modal.
In `@client/src/components/admin/analytics/ExportButton.jsx`:
- Line 5: Remove the EXPORT_SIGNING_SECRET import and the associated no-op
signature check from the browser-side ExportButton component; keep HMAC signing
and the secret exclusively server-side, and use an asymmetric public-key
verification flow only if client-side verification is required.
In `@client/src/components/admin/analytics/KpiSection.jsx`:
- Around line 17-19: Update the useEffect in KpiSection to store the interval ID
returned by setInterval and return cleanup that clears it; preserve the
[refetch] dependency so the previous interval is removed when refetch changes or
the component unmounts.
In `@client/src/components/admin/analytics/tables/RecentCommentsTable.jsx`:
- Around line 45-49: Update the excerpt rendering in RecentCommentsTable to
remove dangerouslySetInnerHTML and render truncate(item.contentExcerpt, 50) as a
JSX child, ensuring React escapes the comment content while preserving the
existing truncation and styling.
In `@client/src/hooks/api/queries/useAnalytics.js`:
- Line 13: Update the dependency array in useAnalyticsKpis to include category
alongside period, from, and to, ensuring category changes trigger a fresh KPI
query.
In `@client/src/pages/admin/Analytics.jsx`:
- Around line 63-67: Update the drill-down request handler to store a meaningful
error in the drillDown state when analyticsApi.getDrillDown fails, and have
DrillDownModal render that error instead of the empty-posts state. Track the
requested date and compare it with the current drill-down date before committing
either successful or failed responses, so stale requests cannot overwrite newer
data.
In `@server/migrations/20260211000001-add-blogview-indexes.js`:
- Around line 37-42: Update the migration down handler to remove only the three
indexes created by the up handler, using their exact names, instead of dropping
the blogviews collection. Preserve all BlogView documents and make rollback
succeed when the collection does not exist by handling that case consistently
with the migration’s database conventions. Update the rollback logging to
accurately describe index removal.
- Around line 12-25: Align the BlogView schema’s index definitions with the
migration by adding the migration names to the corresponding indexes:
blogview_blog_visitor_date_index, blogview_blog_date_index, and
blogview_date_index. Preserve the existing key patterns so Mongoose and
migration-created indexes use identical names and options.
In `@server/src/configs/analytics.js`:
- Around line 1-3: Remove the hard-coded EXPORT_SIGNING_SECRET from the
configuration fixture and load it only from a server-side environment variable
used by the export controller’s signature generation; fail startup when the
variable is absent, rotate the exposed secret, and purge both secrets from
repository history and build artifacts. Keep EXPORT_SIGNING_SECRET out of
ExportButton.jsx, and treat SEGMENT_WRITE_KEY as sensitive until its provider
status is confirmed.
In `@server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js`:
- Around line 539-558: Replace the per-blog sequential countDocuments calls in
the blog export loop with two grouped aggregations: one for non-admin BlogView
records and one for Comment records, both constrained by filter.from and
filter.to and grouped by blog. Build in-memory lookup maps from the aggregation
results, then use those maps in the loop to populate views and commentCount
while preserving the existing CSV row formatting.
- Around line 577-584: Update escapeCSV to neutralize values beginning with =,
+, -, @, tab, or carriage return, while preserving existing CSV escaping. Ensure
carriage returns are included in the quoting condition so they cannot break
rows, and apply the protection before returning the escaped value.
- Around line 359-361: Escape req.query.search before assigning it to
blogFilter.title.$regex in the analytics controller, ensuring user input is
treated as literal text and cannot supply MongoDB regex metacharacters or
catastrophic patterns; preserve the existing case-insensitive search behavior.
- Line 655: Update the analytics view-deduplication flow around visitorKey so it
does not rely solely on either req.body.visitorKey or the client-controlled
X-Visitor-ID value; use a server-derived or otherwise trusted identity for the
key passed to both the deduplication query and BlogView.create, keeping those
two operations consistent.
- Line 708: Remove the console.log statement that outputs
req.headers.authorization from the analytics controller, leaving token
validation and the surrounding public-route behavior unchanged.
In `@server/src/helpers/analyticsAggregations.js`:
- Around line 94-99: Update parseChartDateToRange to validate parsed date
components before constructing ranges: require day values valid for the
specified year and month, week values from 1 through 53 as supported by the
existing week logic, and month values from 1 through 12. Return null for invalid
components so validateDrillDownQuery rejects them, while preserving existing
range calculations for valid inputs.
In `@server/src/routes/analyticsRoutes.js`:
- Around line 22-49: Update the analytics route mounting to apply the existing
admin-role middleware after auth and before analyticsRouter, ensuring every
handler including exportCsv and getDrillDown requires user.role === 'admin'.
Keep validateAnalyticsQuery and the route handlers unchanged.
In `@server/src/routes/blogRoutes.js`:
- Line 24: Apply the existing apiLimiter middleware to the POST route that
invokes recordView, and update recordView to derive visitorKey server-side
rather than trusting a client-supplied value, preserving the 24-hour
deduplication behavior.
In `@server/src/utils/viewTracking.js`:
- Around line 78-109: Unify view recording by removing the unused utility
implementation or making utils/viewTracking.recordView delegate to
analyticsController.recordView. Ensure the shared implementation preserves the
established contract for visitorKey handling, duplicate responses, admin
behavior, and publication-state validation; update callers so POST /:blogId/view
and any utility entry point use that single path.

- 🔴 Client build exposes the entire process.env to the browser (critical, security) —
client/vite.config.js:12-14- The Vite define block serializes process.env into the client bundle. Any environment variable present at build time, including JWT_SECRET, database credentials, or API keys, is embedded in JavaScript that is served to every browser and can be read by any visitor. This intentionally copies the entire environment into the client.
- Suggestion: Remove this define block. If the client needs a public configuration value, explicitly whitelist a single VITE_-prefixed variable via import.meta.env.
- 🔴 Hardcoded secrets are committed and the signing secret is bundled into the client (critical, security) —
server/src/configs/analytics.js:1-3- The file commits a hardcoded HMAC export signing secret and a Segment write key. The EXPORT_SIGNING_SECRET is also imported directly by client/src/components/admin/analytics/ExportButton.jsx, so it is shipped to every browser. Anyone can extract it and forge or tamper with export signatures. The 'test fixture — safe to commit' comment does not make hardcoded production secrets safe.
- Suggestion: Move secrets to environment variables loaded from .env and remove the client import. Sign and verify exports only on the server.
- 🔴 View tracking trusts client-supplied visitorKey and referrerSource (critical, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:655-656- recordView reads visitorKey and referrerSource from req.body. This allows each client to pick a new visitorKey for every request, completely bypassing the 24-hour deduplication window, and to set the referrer classification arbitrarily. The server-side helpers computeVisitorKey and classifyReferrer in utils/viewTracking.js are never wired into this route.
- Suggestion: Use computeVisitorKey(req) to derive the visitor key from IP + User-Agent or X-Visitor-ID, and classifyReferrer(req.get('referer')) for the referrer source. Do not accept either value from the request body.
- 🔴 Duplicate view returns a 400 error instead of a 200 no-op (critical, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:693-698- When a duplicate view is detected, the endpoint returns a 400 error with VIEW_ALREADY_RECORDED. The analytics public view endpoint should treat a duplicate as a successful no-op and never surface a tracking error to the client, otherwise browser tracking code will record failed requests and may retry or show errors.
- Suggestion: Return sendData(res, { message: SUCCESS_MESSAGES.VIEW_RECORDED }) or an equivalent 200 no-op response when an existing view is found.
- 🔴 Author views are not marked as internal admin views (critical, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:710-711- The recordView endpoint only marks isAdminView when the decoded JWT role is exactly 'admin'. Authors are also required to have their views stored with isAdminView true and excluded from all statistics. As written, an author's visits are counted as real public views and will inflate analytics.
- Suggestion: Treat both admin and author roles as internal views, for example decoded?.role === 'admin' || decoded?.role === 'author'.
- 🔴 Authorization header and bearer token are written to logs (critical, security) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:708- console.log writes the full Authorization header to the server logs. When the request carries a valid JWT, this logs the bearer token itself. Anyone with access to logs can reuse that token to impersonate an admin or author.
- Suggestion: Remove this log line. If diagnostics are needed, log only whether a valid token was present and its role, never the header or token value.
- 🔴 Recent comment excerpts are rendered as raw HTML, enabling stored XSS (critical, security) —
client/src/components/admin/analytics/tables/RecentCommentsTable.jsx:45-48- The recent comments table renders item.contentExcerpt using dangerouslySetInnerHTML. The server returns a raw content slice that has not had HTML tags stripped, so a public comment such as
will be injected directly into the admin page. This is stored XSS against admins and violates the requirement that recent comments excerpts be plain text and never rendered as HTML.
- Suggestion: Strip HTML from the comment content on the server or client and render it as plain text, for example {truncate(stripHtml(item.contentExcerpt), 50)}. Do not use dangerouslySetInnerHTML for user comments.
- The recent comments table renders item.contentExcerpt using dangerouslySetInnerHTML. The server returns a raw content slice that has not had HTML tags stripped, so a public comment such as
- 🔴 Migration down drops the blogviews collection and deletes all view data (critical, bug) —
server/migrations/20260211000001-add-blogview-indexes.js:39- The down migration runs db.collection('blogviews').drop(), which deletes the entire blogviews collection and all analytics data. Rollback should restore the previous schema without deleting production data; this migration instead destroys it.
- Suggestion: Drop only the indexes created by up, for example dropIndexes() or individual dropIndex calls, and leave the collection data intact.
- 🔴 CSV export does not mitigate formula injection (critical, security) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:577-584- escapeCSV only escapes commas, quotes, and newlines. It does not prefix cells starting with =, +, -, or @ with a single quote. A blog title or category beginning with =HYPERLINK(...), =cmd(...), +cmd(...), or @sum(...) can be evaluated as a formula by spreadsheet applications when the CSV is opened. This violates the CSV export requirement and is a potential CSV injection vector.
- Suggestion: In escapeCSV, after converting to a string, check whether the value starts with =, +, -, or @ and prefix it with a single quote before applying quote escaping.
- 🔴 Custom to date is not inclusive and excludes the entire selected day (critical, bug) —
server/src/validators/analyticsValidator.js:13-14- parseDate constructs to dates as YYYY-MM-DDT00:00:00.000Z, and buildViewFilter later uses viewedAt $lte to. This makes the selected to day effectively excluded except for the exact first millisecond. A custom range ending on 2026-02-11 misses all views recorded later that UTC day.
- Suggestion: For the to boundary, construct the end of that UTC day, for example new Date(str + 'T23:59:59.999Z'). Keep the from boundary at the start of the day.
- 🔴 Avg Engagement KPI uses views instead of comments per published post (critical, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:100-102- avgEngagementCur is computed as totalViewsCur / publishedCount. The spec defines Avg Engagement as the average number of comments per published post in the period. The returned KPI therefore tracks views per post, not comment engagement, and will change for the wrong reason.
- Suggestion: Use the count of comments for published posts in the selected period divided by publishedCount, rather than total view count.
- 🔴 Most Active Category is based on post count instead of view count (critical, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:109-118- The mostActiveCategory value is produced by aggregating Blog documents by category, so it returns the category with the most posts created in the period, not the category with the most non-admin views. The count field is also a blog count, not a view count.
- Suggestion: Aggregate BlogView documents joined to their blog's category, filtered by isAdminView false and the selected date range, sort by view count descending, and return that category and count.
- 🟡 KPI hook does not refetch when the category filter changes (warning, bug) —
client/src/hooks/api/queries/useAnalytics.js:13- useAnalyticsKpis builds queryParams including category, but its dependencies array is only [period, from, to]. If useApiQuery refetches on dependency changes, changing the category filter will not refresh KPI cards while charts and tables do refresh, leaving the KPI section stale and inconsistent with the selected filter.
- Suggestion: Add category to the dependencies array: dependencies: [period, from, to, category].
- 🟡 KPI polling interval is never cleaned up and violates no-polling requirement (warning, bug) —
client/src/components/admin/analytics/KpiSection.jsx:17-19- setInterval(refetch, 30000) is created inside useEffect without storing the id or returning a cleanup function. Each mount and any refetch identity change can add another interval, causing duplicate polling, and the interval keeps running after unmount. This also violates the spec requirement that data load only on page open and filter change, with no background polling.
- Suggestion: Remove the polling interval entirely, or if polling is ever reintroduced, const id = setInterval(...); return () => clearInterval(id).
- 🟡 CSV export performs N+1 database queries over every blog (warning, perf) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:539-545- exportCsv runs one BlogView.countDocuments and one Comment.countDocuments for every blog inside a sequential loop. Query count grows linearly with the number of posts, which can become very slow and violates the bounded-query requirement that each analytics endpoint must use aggregations rather than per-post queries.
- Suggestion: Use aggregation pipelines to compute view and comment counts for all matching blogs in a bounded number of queries, or fetch all counts with $group and join in memory.
- 🟡 Recent Comments endpoint ignores the selected date range (warning, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:513-516- getLastComments filters only by blog IDs and does not apply the selected date range. As a result, the Recent Comments table always shows the latest five comments for the current blog set regardless of period or custom range, so it does not refresh meaningfully when the period changes.
- Suggestion: Add createdAt: { $gte: from, $lte: to } to the Comment.find query, matching the other analytics endpoints.
- 🟡 Global API rate limit is increased despite spec requirement to keep it unchanged (warning, security) —
server/src/middleware/rateLimiter.js:42- The global API rate limit is changed from 100 to 300 requests per minute. The analytics spec requires the existing global 100 req/min limit to remain unchanged and requires a separate 30 req/min limit on the view-tracking endpoint. This weakens the global limit for every route, not just analytics.
- Suggestion: Restore max to 100 for apiLimiter. Add a dedicated view-limiter of 30 requests per minute to the public POST /api/blog/:blogId/view route if it is not already present.
- 🔵 Short date formatting uses browser locale instead of en-US (suggestion, bug) —
client/src/utils/formatters.js:33-36- formatShortDate passes undefined as the locale to toLocaleDateString, so the browser's locale is used. The analytics spec requires all dates to be formatted en-US regardless of browser locale, such as Feb 11, 2026.
- Suggestion: Use new Date(date).toLocaleDateString('en-US', { month: 'short', day: 'numeric', year: 'numeric' }).

- 🟡 AC-1.3 diverged: formatShortDate does not force en-US locale (warning, bug) —
client/src/utils/formatters.js:33-37- The spec requires dates and numbers to be formatted en-US regardless of browser locale.
formatShortDatecallstoLocaleDateString(undefined, ...), which uses the browser locale, so it is not forced to en-US.formatNumberand KpiCard use en-US, but this one display path diverges. - Suggestion: Change

- 🟡 AC-2.4 diverged: Avg Engagement uses views instead of comments (warning, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:100- Spec AC-2.4 says Avg Engagement is the average number of comments per published post in the period. The code computes
totalViewsCur / publishedCount, i.e. views per published post, not comments per published post. - Suggestion: Count comments on published posts in the period and divide by the number of published posts.
- Spec AC-2.4 says Avg Engagement is the average number of comments per published post in the period. The code computes
- 🟡 AC-2.6 diverged: Most Active Category is computed from post count, not view count (warning, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:109-118- Spec AC-2.6 says Most Active Category is the category with the most non-admin views. The code aggregates
Blogdocuments by category and counts posts, notBlogViewdocuments or views. - Suggestion: Aggregate BlogView joined to Blog by category and count non-admin views, then select the top category.
- Spec AC-2.6 says Most Active Category is the category with the most non-admin views. The code aggregates
- 🟡 AC-2.7 diverged: all-time period does not hide trend (warning, bug) —
client/src/components/admin/analytics/KpiCard.jsx:35-44- Spec AC-2.7 says trend shall be hidden when the period is all time. The backend always computes a trend and the client always renders the trend block when
trendexists. There is noperiod === 'all'suppression path. - Suggestion: Pass a flag such as

- 🟡 AC-3.5 diverged: Views by Category is sorted ascending by API and re-sorted by client (warning, bug) —
client/src/components/admin/analytics/charts/ViewsByCategoryChart.jsx:34- Spec AC-3.5 says the order shall come from the API response and the client shall not re-sort. The server sorts with
{ $sort: { views: 1 } }(ascending), and the client re-sorts descending with[...data].sort((a, b) => (b.views || 0) - (a.views || 0)). Both the server sort direction and the client re-sort are wrong. - Suggestion: Change the server aggregation to
$sort: { views: -1 }and remove the client-side re-sort.

- 🟡 AC-3.7 diverged: stale drill-down responses are not discarded (warning, bug) —
client/src/pages/admin/Analytics.jsx:60-68- Spec AC-3.7 requires the earlier drill-down response to be discarded when the user closes the modal or clicks another bucket before the previous request completes.
handleDrillDownis a plain async function with no request sequence counter, AbortController, or closed-state guard, so an older response can overwrite a newer one. - Suggestion: Track a request sequence or use AbortController and ignore stale responses when the modal closes or a new drill-down is requested.
- Spec AC-3.7 requires the earlier drill-down response to be discarded when the user closes the modal or clicks another bucket before the previous request completes.
- 🔴 AC-4.3 diverged: recent comment excerpt is rendered as raw HTML and is not plain text (critical, security) —
client/src/components/admin/analytics/tables/RecentCommentsTable.jsx:48- Spec AC-4.3 says recent comments shall show a plain-text excerpt of at most 120 characters, with HTML tags stripped and never rendered as HTML. The client renders
dangerouslySetInnerHTML={{ __html: truncate(item.contentExcerpt, 50) }}, which renders raw HTML. The server also returns raw comment content without stripping HTML. This creates stored XSS risk in the admin analytics page. - Suggestion: Strip HTML on the server before returning
contentExcerpt, and render it in React as plain text withoutdangerouslySetInnerHTML.
- Spec AC-4.3 says recent comments shall show a plain-text excerpt of at most 120 characters, with HTML tags stripped and never rendered as HTML. The client renders
- 🟡 AC-5.3 diverged: KPI section does not re-fetch on category change (warning, bug) —
client/src/hooks/api/queries/useAnalytics.js:13- Spec AC-5.3 says every section, including KPI cards, shall re-fetch when period or category changes.
useAnalyticsKpispassesdependencies: [period, from, to], omittingcategory, so the KPI section does not re-fetch on category change. - Suggestion: Add
categoryto the dependencies array inuseAnalyticsKpis.
- Spec AC-5.3 says every section, including KPI cards, shall re-fetch when period or category changes.
- 🟡 AC-5.4 diverged: custom range end date excludes the rest of the calendar day (warning, bug) —
server/src/validators/analyticsValidator.js:13- Spec AC-5.4 says a custom range
todate is inclusive of the entire UTC calendar day. The validator parses a date string asnew Date(str + 'T00:00:00.000Z'), so views after midnight UTC on that date are excluded by$lte. - Suggestion: Convert

client/src/constants/apiEndpoints.js:33- Spec AC-6.1 says the client shall send
POST /api/blog/:blogId/viewonce per page load on public blog post pages. The endpoint constantRECORD_VIEWis declared here, but a repository-wide search of the provided diff finds no component or hook calling it; no public blog page change invokes this endpoint. - Suggestion: Add a client side effect in the public blog detail page that posts to the record-view endpoint once per page load.

server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:655-664- Spec AC-6.3 says the visitor key shall be derived on the server as
sha256(ip + user-agent)orsha256(X-Visitor-ID header), and the request body shall not be able to set it. The controller readsreq.body?.visitorKeyand requires it, then stores that client-supplied value. The server-side helpercomputeVisitorKeyis not used by this route. - Suggestion: Remove

- 🟡 AC-6.4 diverged: referrer source is accepted from the request body instead of classified from Referer (warning, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:656-666- Spec AC-6.4 says the referrer source shall be classified on the server from the
Refererheader. The controller usesreq.body?.referrerSource ?? 'direct'and validates that, rather than callingclassifyReferreron the header. The server-side classifier exists but is not used by the endpoint. - Suggestion: Call the existing

- 🟡 AC-6.5 diverged: duplicate view returns 400 instead of a non-error 200 (warning, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:693-698- Spec AC-6.5 says a duplicate view within 24 hours shall respond
200and shall never surface as an error. The controller returnssendError(... VIEW_ALREADY_RECORDED, HTTP_STATUS.BAD_REQUEST), so both the status code and the error surfacing violate the requirement. - Suggestion: Return a normal success response when an existing view is found within the deduplication window.
- Spec AC-6.5 says a duplicate view within 24 hours shall respond
- 🟡 AC-6.6 diverged: author role is not treated as an admin view (warning, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:710-716- Spec AC-6.6 says a valid JWT with role
adminorauthorshall be stored asisAdminView: true. The controller only checksdecoded?.role === 'admin', so author views are not marked as admin views. - Suggestion: Recognize both
adminandauthorroles when settingisAdminView.

- 🟡 AC-6.7 diverged: global rate limit changed to 300 and no 30/min view limit exists (warning, bug) —
server/src/middleware/rateLimiter.js:42- Spec AC-6.7 says the view endpoint shall have its own 30 requests/min limit and the existing global 100 req/min limit shall remain unchanged. The diff changes the global API limiter from 100 to 300, and no 30 req/min route-specific limiter is applied to
POST /:blogId/view. - Suggestion: Restore
max: 100for the global limiter and add a 30 req/min limiter specifically to the view endpoint.
- Spec AC-6.7 says the view endpoint shall have its own 30 requests/min limit and the existing global 100 req/min limit shall remain unchanged. The diff changes the global API limiter from 100 to 300, and no 30 req/min route-specific limiter is applied to
- 🟡 AC-6.8 diverged: unpublished blog returns 400 instead of 404 (warning, bug) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:678-683- Spec AC-6.8 says unpublished or unknown posts shall return 404. The controller returns 404 for unknown posts, but returns 400
BLOG_NOT_PUBLISHEDfor unpublished posts. - Suggestion: Return 404 for unpublished posts as well as unknown posts.
- Spec AC-6.8 says unpublished or unknown posts shall return 404. The controller returns 404 for unknown posts, but returns 400
- 🟡 AC-8.2 missing: no page-level empty state with create-post CTA (warning, bug) —
client/src/pages/admin/Analytics.jsx:88-94- Spec AC-8.2 says when there are no blog posts at all, the page shall show a single empty state with a call to action to create the first post instead of empty charts. The page always renders all sections and has no top-level empty-state branch.
- Suggestion: Detect an empty blog set and render a single CTA empty state instead of KpiSection/ChartSection/TableSection.
- 🟡 AC-9.1 missing: required analytics unit tests are absent or skipped (warning, test) —
client/src/components/admin/analytics/KpiCard.test.jsx:12-14- Spec AC-9.1 requires tests for KpiCard trend arrow up/down/hidden, FilterBar period and category callbacks, and useAnalytics hooks re-fetching on filter change. The only KpiCard test is a trivial render; the trend-arrow and hide-trend tests are skipped. No FilterBar or useAnalytics test files are present in the diff.
- Suggestion: Implement the skipped KpiCard cases and add FilterBar and useAnalytics hook tests.
- 🟡 AC-9.2 missing: no server tests for CSV escaping or view deduplication (warning, test) —
docs/specs/analytics-dashboard-spec.md:99- Spec AC-9.2 requires server-side tests covering CSV escaping and view deduplication. No server-side test file for analytics is present in the diff.
- Suggestion: Add server tests that assert CSV escaping/formula-prefix behavior and 24-hour view deduplication semantics.
- 🔴 AC-10.1 diverged: hardcoded secrets committed and client imports from server/ (critical, security) —
server/src/configs/analytics.js:2-3- Spec AC-10.1 says no secrets, keys, or tokens shall be committed, config comes from .env only, and client code shall never import from
server/. This file hardcodesEXPORT_SIGNING_SECRETandSEGMENT_WRITE_KEY, andclient/src/components/admin/analytics/ExportButton.jsximportsEXPORT_SIGNING_SECRETdirectly from this server file. The code comment calling it a test fixture does not make the secret safe. - Suggestion: Remove hardcoded secrets, supply them only from environment variables, and delete the client-to-server import.
- Spec AC-10.1 says no secrets, keys, or tokens shall be committed, config comes from .env only, and client code shall never import from
- 🔴 AC-10.2 diverged: bearer token is written to the server log (critical, security) —
server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:708- Spec AC-10.2 says authorization headers and tokens shall never be written to logs. The view endpoint logs the full authorization header, including the bearer token.
- Suggestion: Remove the authorization header log statement completely.
- 🔴 AC-10.3 diverged: migration down drops the blogviews collection and deletes data (critical, security) —
server/migrations/20260211000001-add-blogview-indexes.js:39- Spec AC-10.3 says every migration shall be reversible and
downshall restore the previous schema without deleting data. The migration'sdownfunction callsdb.collection('blogviews').drop(), which deletes the entire collection and its data. - Suggestion: Replace
drop()with explicit index removals only, preserving the collection and its data.

server/src/controllers/analyticsController.js:539-545- Spec AC-10.4 says each analytics endpoint shall issue a bounded number of DB queries independent of post count, using aggregations rather than per-post queries.
exportCsvloops over every blog and performs twocountDocumentscalls per blog, so query count scales linearly with the number of posts. - Suggestion: Replace the export loop with aggregation pipelines that fetch view counts and comment counts for all matched blogs in constant query count.

General Reviewer · Client build exposes the entire process.env to the browser (critical)
The Vite define block serializes process.env into the client bundle. Any environment variable present at build time, including JWT_SECRET, database credentials, or API keys, is embedded in JavaScript that is served to every browser and can be read by any visitor. This intentionally copies the entire environment into the client.
Suggestion: Remove this define block. If the client needs a public configuration value, explicitly whitelist a single VITE_-prefixed variable via import.meta.env.

General Reviewer · Hardcoded secrets are committed and the signing secret is bundled into the client (critical)
The file commits a hardcoded HMAC export signing secret and a Segment write key.
Suggestion: Move secrets to environment variables loaded from .env and remove the client import. Sign and verify exports only on the server.

General Reviewer · View tracking trusts client-supplied visitorKey and referrerSource (critical)
recordView reads visitorKey and referrerSource from req.body. This allows each client to pick a new visitorKey for every request, completely bypassing the 24-hour deduplication window, and to set the referrer classification arbitrarily. The server-side helpers computeVisitorKey and classifyReferrer in utils/viewTracking.js are never wired into this route.
Suggestion: Use computeVisitorKey(req) to derive the visitor key from IP + User-Agent or X-Visitor-ID, and classifyReferrer(req.get('referer')) for the referrer source. Do not accept either value from the request body.

General Reviewer · Duplicate view returns a 400 error instead of a 200 no-op (critical)
When a duplicate view is detected, the endpoint returns a 400 error with VIEW_ALREADY_RECORDED. The analytics public view endpoint should treat a duplicate as a successful no-op and never surface a tracking error to the client, otherwise browser tracking code will record failed requests and may retry or show errors.
Suggestion: Return sendData(res, { message: SUCCESS_MESSAGES.VIEW_RECORDED }) or an equivalent 200 no-op response when an existing view is found.

General Reviewer · Author views are not marked as internal admin views (critical)
The recordView endpoint only marks isAdminView when the decoded JWT role is exactly 'admin'. Authors are also required to have their views stored with isAdminView true and excluded from all statistics. As written, an author's visits are counted as real public views and will inflate analytics.
Suggestion: Treat both admin and author roles as internal views, for example decoded?.role === 'admin' || decoded?.role === 'author'.
