feat(scp): SCP protocol, and SFTP going on over SCP on servers without SFTP - #1483
A server with SSH but no SFTP subsystem was a dead end for AeroFTP: OpenWrt's Dropbear without sftp-server, an OpenSSH without its Subsystem sftp line, a subsystem pointing at a missing program. WinSCP falls back to SCP there, on by default. AeroFTP now does the same, and SCP is also a protocol of its own in the GUI, the CLI (scp://) and MCP.
The GUI strings are in #1485, which merges first: with them this PR was 119 files, over CodeRabbit's limit of 100. Until #1485 is on main, a check that reads the locales against the code may be red here, and the Windows artifact may show a raw key where a new string belongs; neither is a finding. Once #1485 merges, this branch is rebased on main with no other change.
What changes, by commit
SCP provider, and SFTP going on over SCP (feat(scp)). ScpProvider lists, stats, creates, deletes, renames, chmods, uploads and downloads with progress on one authenticated SSH connection. Every operation is a POSIX shell command with each path single-quoted, and listings use ls --full-time and find -print0, so BusyBox, GNU and uutils all work. An SFTP profile whose server refuses the subsystem, or ends it at once, goes on with SCP on the same connection: no second login, host key verified once against known_hosts as for SFTP. The fallback is on by default ("Allow SCP fallback", --no-scp-fallback). With it off, the error names the cause and the way out. A server with SFTP stays SFTP. WinSCP import keeps SCP sessions as SCP. Accounts that allow no useful command (rssh, scponly) get an error that says so; scp:// URLs are redacted like sftp://.
Resume, replace, free space, search, MD5 and the speed limit over SCP. A download goes on from the byte it stopped at (dd), an upload appends its tail, a replace writes a temporary name and moves it over (mv -f), free space comes from df -Pk, remote search from find, SHA-256 and MD5 from the server's sha256sum/md5sum, and the speed limit applies as for SFTP.
Parallel transfers and segmented downloads over SCP. Several files at once, each on its own exec channel of the one connection, and pget --segments over ranged reads.
At most 8 commands on one connection. OpenSSH allows 10 sessions per connection by default (MaxSessions); without a cap, 16 parallel workers failed 6 of 16 against a real OpenSSH. With it, 16 of 16 pass (tests/live_scp_channels.rs, run in CI against OpenSSH).
One large file read in windows on a plain download. --multi-thread-streams now applies to SCP as to SFTP and FTP: a file at or above the cutoff is read in up to 8 windows by the same segmented engine. Anything the engine turns down is read again on one stream, and a partial file still goes on.
Properties name SCP for an SFTP connection that went on over SCP, in the header and in the reason next to a hash the server cannot produce.
Gaps found before review: size follows a symlink as SFTP's stat does; a read to memory (edit, preview) is capped as on SFTP, refused before any transfer when the server reports more than the cap and stopped at the cap when it sends more than it reported; MCP and CLI agents are told SCP has resume and search; switching a saved profile between SFTP and SCP keeps an SFTP-only choice; a registry preset of another protocol (SourceForge is SFTP) goes with any FTP, FTPS, SFTP or SCP switch, so the profile no longer reopens as the preset's protocol; "Copy URL" copies scp:// on an SFTP connection that went on over SCP.
A channel given up part way is closed, and a replace removes nothing first (from review). A dropped command (a cancelled or failed transfer, a capped read) left its SSH channel open: a split russh channel has no close of its own on drop, so the server kept one of its MaxSessions for as long as the connection lived. ExecSession now closes its channel when dropped, and the channel's place among the 8 is held until that close is sent. replace removed a symlink or empty folder at the target before mv, so a failing mv lost the target; now nothing is removed first, and a folder (or a link to one) at the target is replaced with mv -T. Measured on GNU and BusyBox: every failure leaves the target in place. GNU replaces a link to a folder; BusyBox refuses it with "is a directory" and keeps the link.
Tests
An in-process russh server that runs each command in a shell as a router's BusyBox does, with SFTP refused, ended at once, or served (tests/scp_fallback.rs, tests/scp_session.rs). The tests that claim a property were mutation-checked.
A CI job against the stock OpenWrt image, pinned by digest (tests/scp_openwrt.rs), and the 16-worker channel test against OpenSSH.
a_transfer_given_up_part_way_closes_its_channel and a_replace_that_fails_leaves_the_target_as_it_was (commit 9), each failing with its fix taken out.
Full local gate (ci:pre-push: fmt, security regression, version sites, vitest, typecheck, i18n:validate, strict Clippy, the whole Rust suite, cargo audit) passed before the last commit; after it, the touched Rust tests, the whole vitest suite (3176) and tsc passed.
Live checks
CLI on real servers (OpenSSH without SFTP, OpenSSH whose subsystem points at a missing program, OpenWrt Dropbear without sftp-server, OpenSSH with SFTP), password and key: connect with the host key prompt, list, upload and download of names with spaces, quotes, brackets and a leading dash, rename, delete, resume of an interrupted download (going on from byte 10158032 of 30000000, files identical) and of an interrupted upload (appending from byte 10158080, SHA-256 equal), replace, free space, search, MD5, speed test, parallel, segmented. All passed.
GUI in an isolated instance: 30 of 30 steps passed, including AeroSync over SCP (first sync uploads everything, the second finds nothing to do, a changed file is the only one sent), the fallback turned off (clear error in under 2 s), SCP as its own protocol, and a server with SFTP staying on SFTP.
Known and left for later
The activity log line "Connected to ... via SFTP" and the speed test footer still name the profile's protocol on an SFTP connection that went on over SCP. The "Connected with SCP" notice right after it says what happened. Naming SCP there needs the connect result to carry the transport, which is a wider change than this PR.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added SCP connections for SSH servers without an SFTP subsystem, including direct SCP profiles and automatic SFTP-to-SCP fallback on the same connection. Fallback can be disabled in connection settings or with the CLI option.
Added file management and transfers, including resumable and concurrent transfers, progress and speed limits, checksums, search, and storage information when supported by the server.
Added SCP support to protocol selection, speed tests, connection details, CLI connections, and WinSCP profile import and export. SCP uses SSH authentication and port 22.
Bug Fixes
Improved SFTP connection handling when the server refuses or immediately ends the SFTP subsystem.

bytes.
- Around line 607-620: Update resume_upload so it appends only when the remote

Register SCP and configure protocol behavior src-tauri/src/providers/types.rs, src-tauri/src/providers/mod.rs, src-tauri/src/agent_session.rs, src-tauri/src/provider_commands.rs, src-tauri/src/connection_manifest.rs, src-tauri/src/winscp_import.rs, src/shared/connection-manifest.json, src/types.ts, src-tauri/src/transfer_*, src-tauri/src/storage_dedup.rs, related protocol helpers
SCP is registered as an SSH provider with port 22, capability mappings, and profile settings. WinSCP SSH modes map to SCP or SFTP with fallback settings. SCP and SFTP profiles with matching host, port, and user share storage deduplication keys.
Implement SCP sessions and file operations src-tauri/src/providers/scp/*, src-tauri/src/ssh_exec.rs
Adds SCP session commands and provider operations for transfers, metadata, file management, checksums, search, rate limits, and transfer workers. Exec sessions attempt to close their channel when dropped.
Hand off SFTP connections to SCP src-tauri/src/providers/sftp.rs, src-tauri/src/delta_sync_rsync.rs, src-tauri/tests/scp_fallback.rs
SFTP setup distinguishes subsystem refusal or early termination from other errors. When fallback is enabled, it starts SCP on the authenticated SSH connection and delegates provider operations to it. SCP mode does not provide an SFTP delta transport.
Integrate SCP in profiles, clients, and application surfaces src-tauri/src/bin/aeroftp_cli.rs, src-tauri/src/provider_commands.rs, src/App.tsx, src/components/*, src/utils/*, src/shared/*
Adds SCP selection and fallback controls, connection parameters, protocol labels, host-key checks, and SCP-aware application handling. Profile switching preserves SSH options when switching between SFTP and SCP.
Validate and document SCP support .github/workflows/delta-sync-integration.yml, src-tauri/tests/*scp*, src-tauri/tests/support/ssh_exec_server.rs, docs/*
Adds local, live-server, and OpenWrt integration coverage. Documents fallback conditions, SCP operations, transfer prerequisites, and checksum availability.

The title "feat(scp): SCP protocol, and SFTP going on over SCP on servers without SFTP" matches the main change. The PR adds SCP as a protocol across GUI, CLI and MCP, and adds SCP fallback for SFTP when the server refuses or ends the SFTP subsystem. The title is specific and uses a conventional commit prefix. It names both principal parts of the change. It is 75 characters, which is slightly above a short title, but it stays readable.

…t SFTP
A server with SSH but no SFTP subsystem was a dead end: OpenWrt's Dropbear without `sftp-server`, an OpenSSH without its `Subsystem sftp` line, a subsystem that points at a missing program. AeroFTP spoke only SFTP there, while WinSCP falls back to SCP, on by default. AeroFTP now does the same.
- `ScpProvider`: list, stat, mkdir, delete, rename, chmod, upload and download with progress, on one authenticated SSH connection. Every operation is a POSIX shell command with each path single-quoted; listings use `ls --full-time` and `find -print0`, so BusyBox, GNU and uutils all work.
- SFTP fallback: an SFTP profile whose server refuses the subsystem, or ends it at once, goes on with SCP on the same connection: no second login, and the host key verified once, against `known_hosts` as for SFTP. It is on by default ("Allow SCP fallback" in the connection settings, `--no-scp-fallback` in the CLI); with it off, the error names the cause and the way out. A server with SFTP stays SFTP.
- SCP is also a protocol of its own (GUI, CLI `scp://`, MCP, saved profiles), with the settings of an SFTP profile. WinSCP import keeps SCP sessions as SCP.
- An account that allows no useful command (rssh, scponly) gets an error that says so. `scp://` URLs are redacted like `sftp://`, and no password, passphrase or key reaches the logs.
- Tests: an in-process russh server that runs each command in a shell as a router's BusyBox does, with SFTP refused, ended at once or served; a CI job against the stock OpenWrt image, pinned by digest. The GUI strings, in every locale, are in #1485.

…it over SCP
SCP now offers the operations it was missing next to SFTP, each built from POSIX tools the server already has and offered only when the probe found them.
- Resume: an interrupted download goes on from its partial file (the server seeks with `dd bs=1 skip=N count=0` and streams the rest with `cat` or `head -c`); the partial is matched to the source by size and time, as for the other protocols. An interrupted upload goes on by appending (`cat >>`) from the remote file's real size, falls back to a full upload when the remote is missing, empty or longer, and checks the final size.
- Replace: `mv -f` from the staged name; a folder occupant is refused across kinds exactly as the other providers refuse it, and a symlink occupant is replaced, not followed.
- Free space from `df -Pk`, search with `find -print0` (stopped at 500 hits), MD5 next to SHA-256 (`md5sum`), and the speed test accepts SCP.
- The speed limit applies to SCP transfers both ways, and an SFTP connection that goes on over SCP keeps the limit it had.
- A server that closes the SFTP channel during the handshake (russh reports SendError/RecvError) is now read as a server without SFTP, like one that ends the subsystem at once: the fallback no longer depends on which side noticed first.
- The SCP checksum caveat has its own wording, and the "transfers cannot be resumed" sentence is gone from the SCP notice and tooltip (both strings in #1485) and from the CLI note.
- Tests: the fake GNU server covers replace across kinds, df, digests, find, interrupted download and upload with the limit pacing them, and SFTP in SCP mode; the stock OpenWrt container (BusyBox, Dropbear) runs the same operations. The log-capture test runs alone in a child process: with a lone thread-local subscriber, tracing caches a call site reached first by another test's thread as "never", and the capture came back empty once in four runs.

SCP joins the SFTP connection pool of the transfer engine. A worker is a second session on the same SSH connection: every SCP command already opens its own exec channel, so workers run side by side with no second login, no secrets copied and nothing to dial; the connection stays with the provider that made it (or with the SFTP provider that went on over SCP). Up to 8 workers, under OpenSSH's default of 10 sessions per connection.
- `read_range` reads a window with the same `dd` seek resume uses (`head -c` for the length), fewer bytes at the end of the file, as over SFTP. With it the engine splits large downloads into windows, and remote archive badges read a ZIP or 7z head and tail over SCP too.
- Without `dd`, `cat` and `head` on the server, transfers stay one at a time on the session and `read_range` says why.
- Static hints for AeroAgent and the AI prompt now describe SCP as it is; the docs table lists parallel transfers and ranged reads; delta sync stays SFTP only.
- Tests: four workers download side by side on the fake server and on the stock OpenWrt container (Dropbear), a segmented download comes back whole and reads at least one window per segment, and the fake server counts one connection for all of it; SFTP in SCP mode hands out the same workers.
- The progress recorder of the SCP tests has named types (clippy).

SCP workers share their SSH connection, and every command they run is one session channel on it. OpenSSH refuses a channel past `MaxSessions` (10 by default): measured on OpenSSH 9.6 with 16 workers reading at once and no limit on our side, 6 of the 16 failed with "Failed to open channel". A transfer engine that hands out 8 workers stays under it, but nothing stopped a caller from cloning more, and the primary session runs its own commands beside them.
- The session and all its workers share one semaphore of 8 places (`CHANNELS_PER_CONNECTION`): a command takes a place before it opens its channel and gives it back when it ends, so the rest wait instead of failing. The pool size of the transfer engine is the same constant.
- `tests/live_scp_channels.rs` (ignored, needs a real OpenSSH server) is that measurement with the limit in place: 16 workers read a paced 4 MiB file at once and every one must read it whole. With the limit removed it fails as measured above; the in-process server cannot stand in, as it never runs more than 4 commands at once.
- The delta-sync integration workflow runs it against the OpenSSH container it already starts for `live_sftp_replace.rs`, and its path filters now include both files.

`--multi-thread-streams` (CLI `get`, default 4 above 250M) now applies to SCP as it does to SFTP and FTP: a whole file at or above the cutoff is read in up to 8 windows, each on its own exec channel of the one connection, by the same segmented engine the parallel transfers use. The server needs `dd`, `cat` and `head`, as for resume. Anything the engine turns down (the file moved, a window refused, a failed channel) is read again on one stream, and a partial file still goes on from where it stopped.
- An SFTP profile that went on over SCP passes its tuning to SCP, whether it was set before connecting or after.
- Test: on an SCP profile and on an SFTP profile over SCP, a 3 MiB file above a 1 MiB cutoff comes back whole, reads at least one window per segment, reports progress to the end and opens no second connection; with one stream it is one `scp -f`.
- The CLI help, the CLI guide and the protocol table name SCP among the providers that honour the option.

A download that the segmented engine turned down because the source moved under it is read again on one stream, and that second read is the one the caller must date the file by: SCP now keeps the download-time record that SFTP, FTP and the cloud providers keep since #1466, and joins the same class. It records the time of what it actually read (the `scp -f` header time, or the stat of a complete partial or a ranged read), says when the source was refused, and hands the time over only for the read that follows the refusal, once.
- A download expected to meet a moved source is not split into windows, so it reads the file once on one stream.
- An SFTP profile that went on over SCP forwards the record to SCP.
- Test: after a refusal, a plain download reports the refusal, runs one `scp -f` and hands over the time the server sent, only once; without a refusal nothing is handed over. Mutation-checked: dropping the recorded time fails it.

…over SCP
On an SFTP profile whose server has no SFTP, the Properties dialog said `Remote (SFTP)` and, next to SHA-1, SHA-512 and BLAKE3, "SFTP cannot produce this hash server-side", while the hashes it does offer there (SHA-256 and MD5, computed by the server's shell) are SCP's. The dialog now names SCP for such a connection, in the header and in that reason, for one file and for a selection.
- `connectionProtocolLabel` (utils/scpFallback) maps an SFTP connection that went on over SCP to `scp`, and any other protocol to itself. Display only: everything that decides keeps the profile's protocol.
- The flag is cleared by every connect (`runConnect`) and set by the `scp-mode` session event that the same connect emits; Properties reads it when it opens.
- Test: the label is `scp` only for SFTP with the flag, for no other protocol. Mutation-checked: dropping the protocol check fails it.

…le's choices across a switch
Six gaps found before review, fixed together.
- `ScpProvider::size` read the link itself (`ls -land`), so a symlink to a file reported the length of its target's name. It follows the link now, as SFTP's `stat` does and as resume already did.
- A read to memory (edit, preview) took the whole file. As SFTP, a file the server says is over the cap (500 MB, or the caller's smaller one) is refused before anything runs, and a server that says less than it sends is stopped by the buffer at the cap.
- MCP and CLI agents were told SCP has no resume and no search. It has both.
- Switching a saved SFTP profile to SCP and back dropped an SFTP-only choice, so saving it turned the fallback on. The choice now carries over (`optionsAcrossSshSwitch`).
- A profile switched to a protocol its registry preset does not speak (SourceForge is SFTP) kept the preset, and reopened as the preset's protocol. The preset now goes with the switch, for every FTP, FTPS, SFTP and SCP switch, not only SCP (`presetFitsProtocol`).
- "Copy URL" on an SFTP connection that went on over SCP copies `scp://`: the server has no SFTP.
- Tests: a symlink's size is its file's, and a capped read refuses with one command run (the stat) and no transfer; the buffer refuses the write that crosses its cap; a switch keeps the SFTP-only choice and drops only a preset of another protocol. Mutation-checked: a plain stat in `size`, no size check before the read, no carried choice, or a preset always kept, each fails its test.

…e a replace
A command abandoned part way (a cancelled or failed transfer, a capped read) left its SSH channel open. `ssh_exec` splits the channel, and a split channel has no close of its own on drop (russh installs one only in `into_stream`), so the server kept the session, one of its MaxSessions, for as long as the connection lived. `ExecSession` now closes its channel when dropped. The SCP session's place among the connection's 8 channels is held until that close has been sent, so a new command waits for the server to let go of the old one. A close for a channel the server already closed is a no-op in russh. The doc comments that said EOF on drop would end the command are corrected. The exec request is now sent after the split, so a refused exec closes its channel too.
`replace` removed the occupant first when it was a symlink or an empty folder, then ran `mv`. A failing `mv` (a staged file gone, a folder moved into itself) lost the target. Nothing is removed beforehand now. Where the target is a folder, or a link to one, `mv -T` treats it as the name itself (plain `mv` would move the source inside it); otherwise `mv -f`, one rename(2). Measured on GNU coreutils and on BusyBox (OpenWrt 24.10): with nothing removed first, every failure leaves the target in place. GNU replaces a link to a folder; BusyBox refuses that one with "is a directory" and keeps the link.
Tests:
- `a_transfer_given_up_part_way_closes_its_channel`: a paced download is dropped part way, and the test server must see the client close that channel. It fails with the close removed (0 closes, 1 expected).
- `a_replace_that_fails_leaves_the_target_as_it_was`: a missing source over a link to a file, a dangling link and a link to a folder; a link in place of itself; a folder into its own empty subfolder; and a folder over an empty folder, which still works. It fails with the link pre-delete put back.

Gate download and upload resume on dd and cat only.
can_resume also requires head, but the unbounded read and the append never run head. On a server that has dd and cat but lacks head, a valid download partial is discarded and an interrupted upload restarts from byte zero. The resume checks should use dd and cat. Only the bounded range read needs head, so it should keep a separate check.
Suggested fix
/// Whether the server has what going on from an offset takes.
fn can_resume(&self) -> bool {
- ["dd", "cat", "head"].iter().all(|t| self.has(t))+ ["dd", "cat"].iter().all(|t| self.has(t))
}
++ /// Whether the server has what a bounded range read takes: `dd`, `cat` and `head`.+ fn can_read_range(&self) -> bool {+ self.can_resume() && self.has("head")+ }
Then use can_read_range() at the segmented-download gate (provider.rs:258), transfer_executor_kind (provider.rs:902), read_range (provider.rs:985), and supports_range_download (provider.rs:1006).

Update can_resume to require only dd and cat so resumable uploads and unbounded
downloads work without head. Add a separate bounded-range capability check that
also requires head, and use it for segmented-download eligibility,
transfer_executor_kind, read_range, and supports_range_download.
Add src-tauri/src/providers/mod.rs to the delta-sync path filters.
A pull request that changes only src-tauri/src/providers/mod.rs does not start delta-sync-integration.yml. The ProviderType::Scp arm in that file is reached by the scp_openwrt test through ProviderFactory::create. That test runs only in this workflow, so a change limited to the SCP arm skips the OpenWrt check. The workflow header records an earlier regression that went undetected because a path was missing from these filters. The filter addition also makes the workflow run for changes to this shared file.

- 49:
Update the delta-sync path filters in the workflow’s push and pull request
triggers to include src-tauri/src/providers/mod.rs, so changes to the shared
provider factory configuration start the SCP integration checks.
Add a regression test for --no-scp-fallback in each CLI config builder.
--no-scp-fallback writes allow_scp_fallback=false in url_to_provider_config and in profile_value_to_provider_config. No test sets the flag to true or checks that key. The test_cli() fixture sets the flag to false, so removing either insertion would not change any inspected test result. Current propagation works. The gap is in regression protection. If the key were lost, scp_fallback_allowed would return true and SCP fallback would run after the user disabled it.
Add one test for each builder. Each test should set the flag on the fixture (let mut cli = test_cli(); cli.no_scp_fallback = true;), call the builder, and assert that the returned configuration carries allow_scp_fallback as "false". A companion case with the default fixture should assert that the key is absent.

Connection and transport:
- SCP mode is seen through an AeroCrypt overlay (`SftpProvider::went_on_over_scp`), for the CLI connect report, the CLI notice and the GUI's `scp-mode` event alike.
- A transfer worker keeps the profile's SCP fallback choice: `SftpConnectionSpec` carries it to `clone_for_transfer` and to the range workers.
- The refused SFTP channel is closed before the SCP channel opens, for servers with one session per connection.
- A connection that drops while the subsystem is asked for is a lost connection, not a server without SFTP.
- An exec on a connection the server ended is `ConnectionLost`, so the silent reconnect applies; a channel refused on a live connection is not.
- A keepalive never queues behind 8 busy channels: a busy connection is alive.
- After a silent reconnect the backend reports `ssh-transport` (scp or sftp), and the GUI's SCP label follows it either way.
Listing and search:
- A symlink lists with the size and kind of what it points to, as over SFTP; a link whose target cannot be read (dangling, looping, through a file, out of the user's reach) keeps its own, and the folder still lists.
- The batched `ls` behind search and the listing's second pass tells a missing name from one it could not read, and fails on the latter instead of returning a shorter list.
Options and CLI:
- `allow_scp_fallback` must be a boolean under either spelling.
- `agent-connect` honours `--no-scp-fallback`; the SSH flag extras are one function for URLs and profiles.
GUI:
- The AeroCloud connect path asks for the host key of an SFTP or SCP profile, and an SCP profile with no port no longer defaults to 443 there.
- The AeroCloud tab asks for the host key before it ends the current connection, so a refused key leaves the previous session live.
- Copy URL carries a non-default port, brackets an IPv6 host, and percent-encodes the user and each path segment; the CLI decodes a URL path, so a name with a space, `?`, `#` or `%` reaches the server as it is.
- Saving after a protocol switch no longer restores a preset that does not fit the new protocol.
Tests: the OpenWrt test restores the router's stock login, the live channel test uses a per-run remote name, and `delta-sync-integration.yml` also runs on `providers/mod.rs`. Each new Rust property test fails with its fix taken out (12 of 12), and so do the frontend ones.

To make the profile path testable without a vault, the SSH flag block that both builders repeated is now one function, apply_cli_ssh_extras, called by url_to_provider_config and profile_value_to_provider_config. The test checks that the default test_cli leaves the key absent and that the flag sets allow_scp_fallback=false, both through url_to_provider_config and directly through the shared function.
@axpnet Thanks. Source inspection confirms both changes:
src-tauri/src/providers/mod.rs appears in both the push and pull_request path filters.
Both configuration builders call apply_cli_ssh_extras. The new test checks that the fallback key is absent by default and equals "false" when --no-scp-fallback is set. It covers the URL builder directly and the profile path through the shared helper.
These changes address the two nitpicks. I did not run the tests.

One conflict, in `url_to_provider_config` (aeroftp_cli.rs): main's `url_path_decoded` from #1480 and this branch's decode of the same URL path. Main's is kept, so there is one decoding; this branch's `a_url_path_is_read_back_as_the_name_it_encodes` (the Copy URL round trip with `?`, `#`, `%`, a space and an encoded user) passes on it.

Keep the quota cap and auto-scan setting when switching SFTP and SCP.
Switching a profile between SFTP and SCP clears manualTotalBytes and autoScanUsedOnConnect. Saving then writes the cleared options, and the quota path reads the saved profile first. Keep both keys in the options that survive the switch.

Update optionsAcrossSshSwitch to preserve manualTotalBytes and

allowScpFallback.
Add a test for a profile with no allowscpfallback key.
Add a test for a profile with no allow_scp_fallback key.
extras_for_connect adds allow_scp_fallback as "false" when no_scp_fallback is true. It does this with an unconditional insert, so the current code handles both the existing-key and absent-key cases correctly. The existing test seeds only an existing "true" entry. A profile with no fallback option is the default case, and no test covers it. A change that rewrites an existing key but skips the insert would still pass this test.

Transfers:
- Resume needs `dd` and `cat` only; a bounded range read (segmented downloads, parallel workers, `read_range`) also needs `head`. A server without `head` now goes on from an offset instead of starting over.
- An upload resumes by appending only when the remote is no longer than the caller's offset. A remote that another writer grew since it was measured is sent whole, so foreign bytes never end up inside the file.
Listing and search:
- Every `ls` batch (a listing's symlink targets and second pass, search results) is cut by the bytes its quoted paths take in the command, not by a name count or the raw length: a quote takes four bytes there. A batch stays well under the 128 KiB a single argument may take on Linux.
- A search of a folder that is not there or cannot be read fails as its listing does, as over SFTP, instead of returning no matches.
Connection:
- A connection that ends after the SFTP subsystem is accepted but before the server's VERSION is a lost connection, like one that ends while the subsystem is asked for, and SCP is not tried.
Options and CLI:
- A profile saved with `allow_scp_fallback` gets the key the app reads, `allowScpFallback`, so an SFTP-only profile added from the CLI stays SFTP-only in the app.
GUI:
- Switching a profile between SFTP and SCP keeps the quota settings (a manual total and the used-space scan on connect).
- The host of a server field comes from `serverHost`, which keeps a bare IPv6 address whole and drops a port bracketed or not. The 7 places in App.tsx that cut at the first `:` used it wrongly for IPv6, among them the DevTools SSH terminal of an SFTP or SCP session.
Tests: the unreadable-folder search test runs its permission case only where the folder is not searchable (not as root), and a profile with no fallback key is covered for `agent-connect`. Each new property test fails with its fix taken out.

Pre-review of the whole diff:
- The SSH host-key check runs before the current connection is ended, in connectToFtpImpl and the saved-server connect, and in switchSession before the active tab changes, so a refused key leaves the user on the tab they were on, connected; the wiring test now fails on a teardown before the check and on a switch before it.
- A second SFTP session the server refuses is closed (request_sftp_subsystem), so a server with MaxSessions does not keep the dead channels; test a_refused_second_sftp_session_is_closed.
- The OpenWrt fixture job gets 65 minutes, the sum of its step limits.
- agent-connect's "unsupported" payload names SCP among the protocols it connects; the list is now the one the resolver is tested against.
- A speed test cancelled while the scratch folder is checked stops there, before any upload.
Windows test report:
- SCP free space leaves out the blocks reserved for root, as SFTP's statvfs does (used = size - available).
- The speed test no longer writes into the server's root by default: the GUI and the CLI use the folder the session starts in, and a folder that cannot be created (and is not already there) is named in the error instead of "Path not found ... Cleanup failed"; a cancel stays a cancel.
- A failed connect closes its "Connecting to" row (it stayed live, "1 ACTIVE") and says why instead of "Check credentials".
- The "has no SFTP" note is printed once per server (pget printed it per worker), the connect summary reads "Protocol: SCP (the server has no SFTP)", and get --partial no longer says a file it keeps will be overwritten.

First review, follow-up (provider.rscan_resume, gate resume on dd and cat only): fixed as suggested. can_resume needs dd and cat; the new can_read_range adds head and gates the segmented download, transfer_executor_kind, read_range and supports_range_download. Test: a_server_without_head_still_resumes_but_reads_no_ranges runs the server with every tool but head, resumes an upload by appending, and requires read_range to be refused naming head and supports_range_download false. It fails with either gate reverted.
Second review, follow-up (protocolSwitch.ts, keep the quota cap and auto-scan setting): fixed as suggested, manualTotalBytes and autoScanUsedOnConnect cross the switch; test in protocolSwitch.test.ts (SFTP to SCP and back keeps both). It fails without them.
Second review, follow-up (agent_session.rs, a profile with no allow_scp_fallback key): added to no_scp_fallback_turns_the_fallback_off_for_agent_connect: with the flag the key is added as "false", without it no key appears. It fails if the insert only rewrites an existing key.
@axpnet Source inspection confirms all three changes:
SCP capability gates:can_resume requires only dd and cat. can_read_range also requires head and gates segmented downloads, executor selection, range reads, and range-download hints. The new test checks upload resume without head and rejects range reads.
Profile switching:optionsAcrossSshSwitch preserves manualTotalBytes and autoScanUsedOnConnect. The regression test checks both values across an SFTP → SCP → SFTP round trip.
Agent connections:extras_for_connect inserts "allow_scp_fallback": "false" when the flag is set, even when the profile has no existing key. The test also checks that the key remains absent without the flag.
These changes address the three findings at the source level. I did not run the tests or verify the reported mutation-test results.

Summary
A server with SSH but no SFTP subsystem was a dead end for AeroFTP: OpenWrt's Dropbear without
sftp-server, an OpenSSH without itsSubsystem sftpline, a subsystem pointing at a missing program. WinSCP falls back to SCP there, on by default. AeroFTP now does the same, and SCP is also a protocol of its own in the GUI, the CLI (scp://) and MCP.Refs #1454, discussion #1452.
The GUI strings are in #1485, which merges first: with them this PR was 119 files, over CodeRabbit's limit of 100. Until #1485 is on
main, a check that reads the locales against the code may be red here, and the Windows artifact may show a raw key where a new string belongs; neither is a finding. Once #1485 merges, this branch is rebased onmainwith no other change. What changes, by commit
feat(scp)).ScpProviderlists, stats, creates, deletes, renames, chmods, uploads and downloads with progress on one authenticated SSH connection. Every operation is a POSIX shell command with each path single-quoted, and listings usels --full-timeandfind -print0, so BusyBox, GNU and uutils all work. An SFTP profile whose server refuses the subsystem, or ends it at once, goes on with SCP on the same connection: no second login, host key verified once againstknown_hostsas for SFTP. The fallback is on by default ("Allow SCP fallback",--no-scp-fallback). With it off, the error names the cause and the way out. A server with SFTP stays SFTP. WinSCP import keeps SCP sessions as SCP. Accounts that allow no useful command (rssh, scponly) get an error that says so;scp://URLs are redacted likesftp://.dd), an upload appends its tail, a replace writes a temporary name and moves it over (mv -f), free space comes fromdf -Pk, remote search fromfind, SHA-256 and MD5 from the server'ssha256sum/md5sum, and the speed limit applies as for SFTP.pget --segmentsover ranged reads.MaxSessions); without a cap, 16 parallel workers failed 6 of 16 against a real OpenSSH. With it, 16 of 16 pass (tests/live_scp_channels.rs, run in CI against OpenSSH).--multi-thread-streamsnow applies to SCP as to SFTP and FTP: a file at or above the cutoff is read in up to 8 windows by the same segmented engine. Anything the engine turns down is read again on one stream, and a partial file still goes on.sizefollows a symlink as SFTP'sstatdoes; a read to memory (edit, preview) is capped as on SFTP, refused before any transfer when the server reports more than the cap and stopped at the cap when it sends more than it reported; MCP and CLI agents are told SCP has resume and search; switching a saved profile between SFTP and SCP keeps an SFTP-only choice; a registry preset of another protocol (SourceForge is SFTP) goes with any FTP, FTPS, SFTP or SCP switch, so the profile no longer reopens as the preset's protocol; "Copy URL" copiesscp://on an SFTP connection that went on over SCP.MaxSessionsfor as long as the connection lived.ExecSessionnow closes its channel when dropped, and the channel's place among the 8 is held until that close is sent.replaceremoved a symlink or empty folder at the target beforemv, so a failingmvlost the target; now nothing is removed first, and a folder (or a link to one) at the target is replaced withmv -T. Measured on GNU and BusyBox: every failure leaves the target in place. GNU replaces a link to a folder; BusyBox refuses it with "is a directory" and keeps the link.Tests
