fix(proton): preserve exact filenames in CLI mode - #1428
Proton CLI mode trimmed remote paths before resolving them. Uploading trailing space.txt therefore created trailing space.txt, and a whitespace-only name resolved to the current directory. Preserve exact path spelling for upload, native-bulk admission and single-file fallback, mkdir, rename and listing.
Regression coverage uses the external-CLI shim to check leading/trailing spaces, both edges, a space-only name and edge tabs. It also checks that raw control names returned by JSON listing survive the official client's portable download-name mapping and arrive under the requested local name.
Validation: the whitespace regression failed on the old resolver with trailing.txt versus trailing.txt . The focused Proton library run passed (213 tests, 3 opt-in tests ignored), and Rust formatting passed. Full platform validation is provided by this PR's GitHub Actions.
Combined live recheck with the companion provider-policy and batch-isolation changes: the original 9-file edge2 fixture passed in both native and CLI modes, with at least 60 seconds between uploads. Official JSON listing confirmed all exact names, including the tab and trailing space, and the empty directory. Independent official-client readback matched all 9 contents in both modes. AeroFTP's targeted tab-name download also matched in both modes. No missing, extra or corrupt files were found. The companion change is needed to let the recursive upload accept the tab before this resolver handles its exact path.
Windows test-fixture correction: after accepting a legacy initialize, the MCP test peer now validates requests and shapes replies using the negotiated protocol. A forced fallback regression reproduced the Windows cancellation failure before the fix. All 11 transport tests passed, including cancellation without result/restart in modern and fallback sessions; direct wire checks also preserve strict modern metadata validation. Production transport code and timeouts are unchanged.
This is the filename-preservation part of the Proton Drive edge-case follow-up for 4.2.6.

Bug Fixes
File and folder names with leading or trailing whitespace are now preserved when resolving paths. This applies to uploads, bulk uploads, folder creation, renaming, and listings, so names remain consistent across these actions.
Improved handling of filenames containing control characters during listing and downloads, making those filenames less likely to be misrepresented during these operations.

Walkthrough
The Proton provider preserves supplied path whitespace during resolution. CLI shim tests cover control-character and whitespace-containing filenames. MCP fixture behavior and transport tests cover legacy fallback, cancellation, and child exit after shutdown.
resolve_path no longer trims supplied paths. CLI shim tests cover control-character filenames during listing and downloads, and whitespace-containing names across upload, bulk upload, folder creation, rename, and listing.

In modern-fallback mode, the fixture returns method-not-found for server/discover and uses legacy tool handling after initialization. Transport tests check legacy-era negotiation and cancellation teardown for modern and fallback sessions, plus child exit after forced shutdown.

A modern fixture can accept legacy initialize after a slow discovery probe, then incorrectly reject the negotiated session's requests for missing modern metadata. Honor initialize when validating requests and shaping replies. Force the same fallback with a method-not-found probe response and verify cancellation still tears down the peer without a result or restart.

Assert fixture-process termination, not only supervisor closure.
StdioSupervisor::call removes the peer and discards the shutdown result. The next call returns Closed because no peer remains. A child that stays alive could therefore satisfy every current assertion. Add a cross-platform fixture exit marker or child-status check for both modes. The existing stubborn test only checks the shutdown return value and does not verify that the process is gone.

Observe an OS exit status from the owned child after cancellation in modern and legacy-fallback sessions, and after forced shutdown of a stubborn peer. Preserve the cancellation, closure and no-restart assertions.

Follow-up to review 5686209164: addressed in 416f099. The nitpick is in the review body without an inline thread, so replying here.
The cancellation test now observes an actual OS ExitStatus from the owned child in both modern and modern-fallback sessions. A test-only observer receives that status only when Child::try_wait() confirms exit after shutdown. Clearing the supervisor slot or dropping a Peer without observing child exit cannot satisfy the new assertion. The stubborn/forced-kill case now requires an exit status too. Existing Cancelled, no-restart and Closed assertions remain.
Validation: all 11 MCP transport tests passed, plus cargo fmt --all -- --check and git diff --check. The observer is compiled only for tests; production shutdown behavior is unchanged.
@coderabbitai please verify this finding is fully addressed and confirm in a reply. Merge remains gated on resolved review findings and green CI for the new head.

@axpnet Verified against the original finding and current head 416f099986e19021c45934e6f993992b21e23d9d. The finding is fully addressed.
The observer sends an ExitStatus only after Child::try_wait() returns Ok(Some(status)).
Both modern and modern-fallback cancellation cases require that status before proceeding. The Cancelled, zero-restart, and Closed assertions remain.
The stubborn-child test also requires an observed exit after forced shutdown.
All observer additions use #[cfg(test)]. Production shutdown behavior is unchanged.
Source inspection and git diff --check HEAD^ HEAD passed. I did not rerun the tests.
At inspection time, several current-head CI jobs were still running, including Linux validation and Windows unit tests. Wait for all required jobs to pass before merging, as CONTRIBUTING.md requires. This confirms the specific finding, not PR approval.
