Requested 79 on #1318: a Proton Drive profile on the official CLI opens in My Files like a native one, and switching a profile between the two clients keeps every saved path pointing at the same folder.

GUI / CLI / TUI / MCP. GUI: the provider starts in My Files, the profile editor's Save confirms and applies a switch, Save as new translates the copy's initial folder, AeroSync and AeroCloud record and check the profile of their sync histories. CLI: profile-convert-mode and profile-duplicate-mode take native and cli for Proton Drive, pwd gives /my-files as the start folder, a bare / keeps listing the sections (also across transfer and batch connections), aerocloud sync runs the same AeroCloud engine. TUI: its / lists the sections and its children are looked up there (tui_base). MCP: connections start in My Files through the provider and pass absolute paths to it; aeroftp_benchmark follows the engine's prefix rule and aeroftp_speed writes a relative name; no MCP tool changes a profile's mode, so there is nothing to translate there.

Start folder

  • providers/proton.rs: a CLI-mode session starts in /my-files and returns there on disconnect (START_DIR). The root stays the list of sections: absolute paths such as /devices or /shared-with-me work as before, one cd .. away. The GUI lists the provider's current folder when a profile saves no initial folder, so it opens in My Files without a frontend change.
  • CLI: a base of /my-files would have re-rooted absolute paths (/devices -> /my-files/devices), so the base stays / and the connection carries Proton Drive's start folder instead (CliBase, built by create_and_connect_with from the connected provider's pwd(), so transfer, batch and TUI connections each keep their own). The resolver sends a command given no path there and keeps a / it is given as the root; every other provider has no start folder in the base and resolves exactly as before. The live run found the first version wrong twice: a bare / listed My Files (the resolver sends it to the provider's start folder, right for every other provider), and a process-wide flag would have leaked into a second connection. pwd prints /my-files for a CLI-mode profile that saves no folder and its --json gives resolved_root / and a new start_folder /my-files (null elsewhere).
  • The owner's two decisions met in the CLI, where 35 commands defaulted their path to /, so ls and ls / were one request. Owner's choice: the listing, tree and compare commands (ls, lsd, lsl, lsf, lsjson, tree, ncdu, rmdirs, cleanup, dedupe, check, cryptcheck, reconcile, sync, sync-doctor) default to where the profile starts (an empty path, hidden in --help); mount, serve (an explicit exposed base) and crypt (the encrypted folder) keep /. All fifteen resolve their remote path through the connection's base. Of the 25 places that compare a raw path with / or empty, one read a path of these commands before the resolver: sync's local-to-local detection (remote_arg != "/" meant "remote omitted"), which now accepts an empty one as well.
  • benchmark and speed: on Proton Drive a relative or empty --test-root-prefix lands where the session starts (My Files), in the shared benchmark engine, so the CLI and MCP aeroftp_benchmark follow it (benchmark_effective_prefix); the generated speed file goes under the start folder (speed_scratch_path). An absolute prefix, a --remote-path the caller names and every other provider are unchanged. The prefix is not run through the CLI resolver: that joins a relative path to the profile's initial folder, which would move a relative prefix of any profile that has one. Without a prefix the benchmark's folders are relative and land in My Files already. MCP aeroftp_speed and the GUI speed test use a relative name, so they land there too.
  • TUI: its session keeps the base as a string; it rebuilds the base with its provider's rule (tui_base), so its / lists the sections and its children are looked up there.
  • GUI: the automatic used-storage scan on connect (Proton CLI gives no quota) scanned the current folder, which is now My Files; it keeps scanning /, whose own sections it counts (usedScanRoot), also when the profile saves an initial folder, which would otherwise replace the root. A scan asked from the status bar starts from the profile's folder or the current one, as for every provider.

Mode switch (src-tauri/src/proton_mode_switch.rs)

  • One translation: add or remove the exact /my-files prefix. /my-filesX is not My Files; a user folder my-files inside My Files stays a folder (/my-files/my-files/a <-> /my-files/a); / and the other sections have no native equivalent and are reported, kept as they are, never dropped. Relative and empty paths are unchanged (both modes start in My Files).
  • What moves: the initial folder, the AeroCloud config (server_profile_id) and pairs (by profile name) bound to the profile, and the sync indexes and resumable journals of the profile, a journal with its signature, so Verify answers after the switch what it answered before (a signature that held is made again for the new pair, one that did not keeps its bytes, an unsigned journal stays unsigned). An AeroCloud folder without an equivalent blocks the switch (AeroCloud would otherwise create it under My Files).
  • Atomic: the new history files are written first, then AeroCloud, then the profile (mode and initial folder only, read fresh in the vault's transaction, active partition mirrored to the legacy blob as the CLI does); the old history files go last. Any failure writes back what was there. Histories that trade names (a native /x moving onto the old name of /my-files/x) both arrive.
  • Refused, with nothing written: while AeroCloud syncs (the GUI holds AeroCloud's sync lock for the whole switch, and every cycle reads its folders again; the CLI cannot see the app, so it refuses while an enabled AeroCloud sync uses the profile and says how to proceed), while a legacy journal is pending under a saved folder of the profile, or when a target history already exists for another profile.
  • GUI: the profile editor's Save on a Proton profile whose tab changed client asks the plan (proton_mode_switch_plan), shows it in a dialog (ProtonModeSwitchDialog) and applies it (proton_mode_switch_apply) before any other write; Cancel saves nothing. Save as new translates the copy's initial folder (proton_translate_path) and says when it has no equivalent. The three commands are async and registered; docs/COMMAND-INVENTORY.json regenerated.
  • CLI: profile-convert-mode --mode native|cli switches in place (same id, unlike the other groups' convert, since the sync histories, AeroCloud and the native session are keyed by id), lists the plan before its prompt and reports translated, without_equivalent and legacy_histories in --json. profile-duplicate-mode adds a copy with the folder translated. --username and --password are refused for Proton with the sign-in to use instead. Help and docs/CLI-GUIDE.md updated.
  • The rclone bridge has nothing to translate: it exports only native profiles and writes no path, and an import sets no initial folder.

Sync histories record their profile (sync.rs)

SyncIndex and SyncJournal were keyed by their two folders only and recorded no profile, so a switch could not tell which histories were the profile's, and moving one by guess would hand another server's baseline to the Proton profile, where bisync reads the files only that server held as remote deletes. Both now carry an optional profile_id, written by AeroSync (the GUI passes the saved profile of the connection, none for a connection without one, never its host; the connection AeroCloud opens now records its saved profile as every other saved-profile connection does) and AeroCloud (its config's profile, in the full and the incremental pass). A history that records another profile is no baseline (history_serves): the compare, the AeroSync merge, the resume and AeroCloud's full and incremental passes load through load_sync_index_for_profile / load_sync_journal_for_profile. Histories that record no profile (written before, or by a connection with no saved profile) behave as before and are never moved; the switch counts them and says that the next sync of their folders compares without history, which deletes nothing because of it. This changes the sync index format by one optional field.

Tests

New tests. "Seen red": failing with the change it pins disabled, in grouped mutation builds whose files were restored after the run; the others pin behaviour of the new module that no mutation was run against one by one.

# Test What it pins Seen red

noEnglishBesideTranslation.test.ts (from #1347, brought in by the merge of main) lists API and CLI for the two files that pass the Proton tab name to a translated sentence, as it does for providerModeGroups.tsx.

Verified green on 1393b20 (merge of main at e781b63 and the review fixes), PR CI included (25 checks): cargo test --lib filtered on community_benchmark, proton_mode_switch, providers::proton, sync::, cloud_service, sync_command_audit and benchmark_tool, 1262 passed; cargo test --bin aeroftp-cli, 902 passed; cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings; cargo fmt --check; typecheck, test:unit 2503 passed, i18n:validate, i18n:diacritics, i18n:untranslated, i18n:contamination, i18n:stale-english (ledger hash rebuilt for the merged en.json), check:provider-inventory. Before the merge: cargo test --lib complete, 6467 passed with sync_command_audit, on a0ceb7753: the library code of this branch is unchanged since, and the rebases below brought in only #1346 and #1348, green on main, so the exact head is left to the PR CI; cargo test --bin aeroftp-cli, 895 passed on the final head c3b7256 (894 on b31691f); cargo test --test cli_proton_profiles, 4 passed on b31691f; for c3b7256 the library tests of community_benchmark, proton_mode_switch, providers::proton, sync::, cloud_service, sync_command_audit and benchmark_tool, 1260 passed; cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings and cargo fmt --check on the final head; sync_command_audit with the three new commands; docs/COMMAND-INVENTORY.json regenerated (785 to 788 Tauri commands, nothing else); on b31691f (c3b7256 touches no frontend file): typecheck, check:provider-inventory, test:unit (2498 frontend tests in 273 files and the GUI controller adapter test); i18n:validate (0 placeholders), i18n:diacritics (one Spanish false positive accepted with its reason: estas is the demonstrative), i18n:untranslated, i18n:contamination, i18n:stale-english (ledger hash rebuilt). Rebased onto #1346 and #1348, which touch only the native client, mega_df.rs and webdav.rs. 17 new keys in 46 locales, through the batch translation skill.

Live

On the Proton Drive test account, CLI mode, debug build of this branch: a portable CLI with an isolated vault, the account's own proton-drive session, reads only, nothing created on the account.

# Scenario Result
1 pwd --json of a CLI-mode profile that saves no folder base /, resolved_root /, start_folder /my-files
2 ls with no path My Files: aeroftp-bench-2026-10-18-ref, aeroftp-test-reports
3 ls / The 10 sections (albums, devices, my-files, photos, ..., trash)
4 tree -d 1 with no path Rooted at /my-files
5 ls aeroftp-test-reports (relative) Lists /my-files/aeroftp-test-reports
6 profile-convert-mode to native on a profile with /shared-with-me, answered no at the prompt The prompt lists the folder as without native equivalent, kept; the profile is unchanged
7 profile-convert-mode --mode native --yes on /my-files/aeroftp-test-reports Same id; translated to /aeroftp-test-reports
8 Back with --mode cli --yes, then ls with no path /my-files/aeroftp-test-reports again, listed

The live run found three defects before this head, all fixed and covered above: a bare / listed My Files, a process-wide version of the fix that would have leaked into a second connection, and the TUI losing the rule; then the owner's choice on no-path commands.

Dev GUI (isolated fixture, master password, own binary and Vite, no call to Proton):

# Scenario Result
9 Editor: native profile switched to the CLI tab, Save, Cancel in the confirmation Profile unchanged (native, /aeroftp-test-reports), history not moved
10 Save again, confirm Profile on the CLI with /my-files/aeroftp-test-reports; its AeroSync history moved with its profile_id and files, old key gone; a legacy history untouched; the dialog listed the folder, the history and the legacy count
11 Save as New into the API tab Native copy with /aeroftp-test-reports; the source unchanged

The API tab's Save needs a native sign-in (an existing rule of the form), made on Proton's page in the browser, so CLI to native on an existing profile was exercised through the CLI (7) and Save as New (11), not through that Save. The AeroSync history of 10 was written with save_sync_index_cmd, the command AeroSync uses, not by a sync run.

Benchmark on the same account (this run writes, and removes what it creates):

# Scenario Result
12 benchmark quick --test-root-prefix AeroFTP-live-tests/bench-79-2026-10-23 on a CLI-mode profile that saves no folder Exit 0, 7 runs, 20 MB, no error (upload 13.99 Mbps, download 22.84 Mbps); while it ran, the scratch folder sat at /my-files/AeroFTP-live-tests/bench-79-2026-10-23/<report id>
13 My Files after the run The same two entries as before: the scratch folder and the two prefix folders the run created are gone
14 Trash after the run The run's three folders were in the trash, with no error in the report: the engine's purge does not reach a folder Proton CLI has already moved to the trash. That defect is on main too and is fixed with the trash purge work of the benchmark engine, not in this PR. The three were deleted permanently by name; the trash holds what it held before

speed was not run live: where its generated file goes is pinned by test 24.

Review

CodeRabbit on c3b7256: four findings. Three are fixed in their own commits (tests 25 to 27): the incremental pass recorded no profile, a moved journal lost its signature, and AeroSync could record a host as a profile. A second review on 1393b20 found, outside the diff, that a saved initial folder replaced the root of the Proton CLI scan on connect: fixed in de44bd7 (test 28; typecheck and test:unit 2508 passed, no Rust changed). The fourth finding of the first review, one index file per pair of folders shared by every profile, predates this PR; here its worst case becomes a lost baseline rather than wrong deletions, and keying the files by profile is Requested 93 on #1318.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Proton Drive profiles can now switch between native and CLI modes, with a review of affected paths and sync history before confirmation. Paths without an equivalent in the selected mode are identified and retained.
    • Proton CLI sessions now open in My Files. Relative and empty paths, benchmark prefixes, and generated files use the session’s starting folder.
    • Sync history is associated with saved profiles to keep comparisons and synchronization records profile-specific.
  • Documentation
    • Updated Proton path and mode-switch guidance, including CLI path behavior and pwd output.

A Proton Drive profile on the official CLI opened at the list of sections, while a native profile opened in My Files, and switching a profile between the two left its saved paths in the old spelling: the CLI writes My Files as /my-files, the native client as /, so an initial folder, an AeroCloud folder or a sync history pointed at another folder, or at none, after a switch (Requested 79 on #1318).

CLI mode now starts and returns to /my-files; absolute paths still start from the sections, so /devices or /shared-with-me stay reachable and a / given to a command lists them, in the CLI and the TUI. The listing, tree and compare commands (ls, lsd, lsl, lsf, lsjson, tree, ncdu, rmdirs, cleanup, dedupe, check, cryptcheck, reconcile, sync, sync-doctor) now default their remote path to where the profile starts instead of /, so on Proton Drive a command given no path works in My Files; for every other provider no path and / still go to the same place. The rule travels with each connection, so two connections in one process keep their own. pwd gives /my-files as the start folder of a profile that saves no folder. The automatic used-storage scan on connect still counts the account's sections.

A switch, from the profile editor or from profile-convert-mode (which now takes native and cli for Proton Drive and keeps the profile and its id), moves every path saved for the profile by adding or removing the exact /my-files prefix: the initial folder, the AeroCloud config and pairs bound to it, and the sync indexes and resumable journals that record it. A folder in another section has no native equivalent and is reported and kept. The plan is shown and confirmed first; the switch writes the new history files, then AeroCloud, then the profile, and a failure at any step puts everything back. It is refused while AeroCloud syncs with the profile or a sync of one of its folders is pending. profile-duplicate-mode and Save as new translate the copy's initial folder.

Sync indexes and journals now record the profile that wrote them. One that records another profile is no baseline: two profiles syncing the same pair of folders on different servers share one file, and read as the other's baseline it turned files only that server held into deletions. Histories written before record none: they keep working as before and are never moved, and the switch says how many there are.

On Proton Drive in CLI mode the account's root lists its sections, where no folder or file can be made. `benchmark --test-root-prefix` turned a relative prefix into an absolute one, so AeroFTP-live-tests/... was looked for between the sections, and `speed` wrote its generated file at /.

A relative or empty prefix now lands where the session starts (My Files), in the shared benchmark engine, so the CLI and the MCP aeroftp_benchmark tool both follow it, and the generated speed file goes under the start folder. An absolute prefix, a --remote-path the caller names, and every other provider are unchanged. The prefix does not go through the CLI resolver like the other commands' paths: that joins a relative path to the profile's initial folder, which would move a relative prefix of any profile that has one. Without a prefix the benchmark's folders were already relative, so they land in My Files now that the session starts there.

Walkthrough

This change adds Proton Drive native/CLI mode switching and uses /my-files as the Proton CLI start folder. It also associates sync indexes and journals with profiles so profile-aware operations can select matching history.

Changes: Proton Drive path behavior

Layer / File(s) Summary
Provider-aware CLI paths and defaults
src-tauri/src/bin/aeroftp_cli.rs, src-tauri/src/providers/proton.rs, docs/CLI-GUIDE.md
Proton CLI sessions start in /my-files. Omitted path arguments resolve from the provider start folder, while an explicit / remains the account root. pwd --json includes start_folder.
Benchmark and storage scan roots
src-tauri/src/community_benchmark/*, src/utils/protonPaths.ts, src/utils/protonPaths.test.ts, src/App.tsx, src/utils/storageQuotaLifecycle.test.ts
Benchmark prefixes and generated scratch files use provider-aware roots. Automatic Proton CLI storage scans use /; other scan cases use the current remote path or / when it is empty.

Profile-associated sync history

Layer / File(s) Summary
Profile IDs in sync history and loaders
src-tauri/src/sync.rs, src/types.ts
Sync indexes and journals add optional profile_id fields. Profile-aware loaders accept matching IDs and also allow history when either ID is absent.
Profile-aware sync and comparison calls
src-tauri/src/cloud_service*, src-tauri/src/lib.rs, src-tauri/src/provider_commands.rs, src/utils/remoteSyncRunner.ts, src/utils/remoteSyncRunner.test.ts, src/App.tsx
Sync, comparison, and history-loading paths pass profile IDs when available. Saved indexes and journals record configured IDs.

Proton mode switching

Layer / File(s) Summary
Plan, translate, and apply mode changes
src-tauri/src/proton_mode_switch.rs, src-tauri/src/lib.rs, src-tauri/src/bin/aeroftp_cli.rs, src-tauri/tests/cli_proton_profiles.rs, docs/CLI-GUIDE.md, docs/COMMAND-INVENTORY.json
The backend plans and applies path and history changes for Proton native/CLI switches. CLI commands support mode conversion and duplication. The plan reports blockers and paths without equivalents; application replans before applying.
Connection-screen confirmation and translations
src/components/ConnectionScreen.tsx, src/components/ProtonModeSwitchDialog.tsx, src/utils/protonModeSwitch*, src/components/providerModeGroups.tsx, src/i18n/locales/*.json, scripts/i18n-*
The connection screen requests confirmation before saving a mode change. The dialog displays paths that move, paths that remain, and legacy-history counts. Locale files add mode-switch prompts and path descriptions.

Comment @coderabbitai help to get the list of available commands.

Brings in #1347 and #1349. The former-English ledger hash is rebuilt for the merged en.json.

The check from #1347 flags a value passed to t() that reads as English. The mode switch passes the name of the Proton Drive tab it goes to, API or CLI, the same label the tab shows (already listed for providerModeGroups.tsx), into its title, its note on folders without an equivalent and the Save as new notice. Both files now list the two names.

12658-12658: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration

The local-local finding is not supported by the inspected code. The cited call at src-tauri/src/lib.rs:12658 does read a history that was saved for another profile, but the inspected code does not show any producer that writes an index for a local-local path pair.

The repository evidence does not establish the claim-critical premise that two profiles can save histories for the same local-local pair:

  • compare_local_directories loads its index with load_sync_index(&left_path, &right_path) and passes it to classify_walked_pair. It has no profile parameter.
  • The only profile-tagged producer found is src/utils/remoteSyncRunner.ts:1289, which adds profile_id before save_sync_index_cmd. That runner writes the index for a remote sync run. The bounded search found no local-local writer in src/App.tsx.
  • The other save_sync_index producers in src-tauri/src/cloud_service.rs (lines 715, 776, 5090, 5154) and src-tauri/src/cloud_service/incremental.rs:664 write remote-sync baselines. They are not local-local writers.
  • history_serves (src-tauri/src/sync.rs:3234-3237) returns true when either side has no profile ID. A profile-less local-local index therefore remains usable, and the cross-profile case needs a profile-tagged index written for the same path pair. No such writer was found for a local-local pair.

The supplied comment's premise that "previous local-local runs" feed the index is not supported by the producers found. The bounded search did not establish how a local path string could become the remote_path of a remote-sync index. The inspected evidence therefore does not establish a reachable cross-profile baseline leak in the local-local compare.

No patch is supported. Adding a profile ID to compare_local_directories would change an API without a demonstrated defect.

No raw root guard is bypassed by the empty default.

The affected handlers resolve the path before scanning or planning. cmd_rmdirs never removes its target root, and cmd_cleanup, cmd_dedupe, cmd_sync, and sync_doctor_report apply their safety checks to the resolved path or to independent deletion controls. No affected path guard compares the raw argument with /.

The incremental pass saved its baseline with no profile, and a history that records none serves every profile: another server's sync of the same pair of folders would read it as its own baseline and turn files only that server holds into deletions. It now records the AeroCloud profile, as the full sync does.

A journal is signed for its pair of folders, and the switch moved the journal without its signature: Verify found none for the new pair, and the old signature stayed behind. The signature now moves too, so Verify answers after the switch what it answered before: a signature that held is made again for the new pair, one that did not keeps its bytes and still reads as a mismatch, and an unsigned journal stays unsigned. The old file goes once the profile is saved, and a failed switch puts it back.

The move does not go through the journal's writer, which stamps the time and signs whatever is on disk: an edited journal would come out signed.

AeroSync passed the id of the active connection, which falls back to the session's id or the host when the connection has no saved profile, so a history could record a profile that does not exist: a later sync of the real profile read it as another profile's, and a Proton Drive mode switch never moved it. It now passes the saved profile's id, or none. The connection AeroCloud opens records its saved profile in its parameters, as every connection from a saved profile does; the backend connection already named it.

Keep automatic Proton CLI scans at the sections root.

When a saved Proton CLI profile has an initialPath such as /my-files/docs, Line 3576 replaces the new / scan root with that path. The automatic scan then omits other sections but can persist its result as the profile’s used-storage total. Apply the profile-path override only when the scan is not an automatic Proton CLI scan.

The used-storage scan a Proton Drive profile on the CLI runs by itself on connect starts at the root, which lists the account's sections. A profile that saves an initial folder replaced that root with its folder (under My Files now), so the scan counted that folder alone and could record it as the profile's used storage. That scan keeps the root; a scan asked from the status bar, and every other provider, still start from the profile's folder.

@coderabbitai About your out-of-diff finding on src/App.tsx:3561 (keep automatic Proton CLI scans at the sections root): valid, fixed in de44bd7. usedScanRoot now receives the profile's resolved initial folder as profileRoot: the scan a Proton Drive CLI profile runs by itself on connect stays at /, and a scan asked from the status bar, like every other provider, still starts from the profile's folder. The new cases in storageQuotaLifecycle.test.ts run the real App closure and failed against the code before the fix (/my-files/docs instead of /). protonPaths.test.ts covers the helper.

@axpnet Thanks. The inspected code addresses the finding: src/App.tsx passes the resolved profile folder through profileRoot, so it no longer overrides / for automatic Proton CLI scans.

The regression assertions cover automatic scans at / and status-bar scans at the saved profile folder. I inspected the tests but did not run them.
