fix(providers): preserve errors and unverified absence - #1350
Provider probes could treat refused requests, malformed metadata or incomplete listings as an absent path, allowing protected writes or destructive empty-directory operations. Missing roots/directories could also be reported as generic failures. Preserve confirmed absence separately from uncertainty across provider lookups and GUI/CLI/MCP callers.
Complete exact-name pagination and preserve auth/transport/metadata errors; fix root/directory probes and legacy GUI FTP parity. Source audit covers38concrete backends and4wrappers, with source-only review distinguished from mocked coverage.
ImageKit omissions remain unverified. Use native create-only uploads and same-folder rename collision checks where the API provides them; retain refusal for unknown cross-folder moves, immutable metadata checks, touch, headedcrypt initialization and nonrecursive removal. Ordinary uploads and local AeroVault creation stay available.
Settle an existing GUI queue/activity row when a server skips an upload; disable ordinary multipart/bulk/resume shapes that cannot carry the native precondition.
GUI: ordinary/default folder uploads remain available; ImageKit skip propagates through single-file, explicit-batch and folder paths to the native guard. Legacy FTP metadata/list failures remain typed; server skips settle existing activity/queue state.
CLI: actual put/put-r tests retain plain uploads and prove fresh/taken × single/recursive no-clobber, preserving existing bytes. Immutable still requires verified metadata. Single-file skip retains its established exit9; successful recursive batches count skipped entries.
MCP: ordinary uploads remain available; no_clobber uses native conditional creation for ImageKit and returns skipped on a confirmed collision, retaining response fields. Other bulk guards individually probe names omitted by non-authoritative lists.
ImageKit operation
Result
Plain GUI upload, CLI put/put-r, MCP upload
Existing unconditional upload semantics preserved
GUI skip / CLI --no-clobber / MCP no_clobber
Fresh file uploads; native collision skips; other errors remain errors
Same-folder file/folder rename
Native409 becomes AlreadyExists when destination is unlisted; known occupied target still refuses
Cannot infer absence/emptiness; refuses before an unsafe operation
AeroVault create
Local container creation; independent of remote lookup. Explicit later upload/save remains ordinary upload
The official ImageKit OpenAPI documents overwriteFile=false plus useUniqueFileName=false: “upload API will return an error immediately.” Its400 schema has an exact collision message; unrelated400s are not skipped. File/folder rename409 descriptions say “already exist in the same location.” Cross-folder move appends versions/merges and has no equivalent non-overwriting option, so the client cannot use that API to settle an unknown free destination.
Validation: red-first HTTP/scripted-FTP/filesystem regressions;58focused Rust cases, native ImageKit and shared agent/executor components, actual CLI command tests,75frontend tests and typecheck. Detailed per-group counts accompany the coordinator report (overlapping groups are not summed). Final Clippy all-targets -D warnings, fmt and diff checks passed. Full PR CI remains authoritative on the published SHA. Local fixtures exercise production paths; no live ImageKit account, GUI click/runtime or native Windows WPD execution is claimed. No full ci:pre-push rerun on this PR branch.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Uploads can skip files that already exist without overwriting them, including supported batch and folder uploads.
Skipped files are reflected in transfer progress and activity logs.
ImageKit uploads honor the “skip existing files” setting.
Bug Fixes
Improved file and folder detection across storage providers, including hidden files and root directories.
Incomplete listings and permission or connection errors are less likely to be mistaken for missing files.
FTP listing and file-size checks report failures more accurately.
Use documented server collision checks for skip/no-clobber uploads and same-folder renames. Preserve uncertain existence errors for unguarded operations and disable transfer shapes that cannot carry the create-only precondition.
Wire GUI, CLI and MCP callers, retain upload response shapes and settle skipped GUI activity/queue rows. Add red-first local HTTP, real executor/command and frontend wiring regressions.

Summary
Capabilities and provider adapters src-tauri/src/ai_core/*, src-tauri/src/providers/mod.rs, src-tauri/src/providers/imagekit.rs
Backend and provider contracts expose display listings, listing authority, and conditional uploads. ImageKit implements paginated listings and create-only uploads.
No-clobber flows use native conditional uploads when supported. Existing destinations produce skip results and update transfer state without duplicate queue entries.
FTP manager probes and adapters src-tauri/src/ai_core/ftp_manager_provider.rs, src-tauri/src/ai_core/gui_tools.rs, src-tauri/src/ai_core/tauri_impl.rs, src-tauri/src/ftp.rs, src-tauri/src/providers/ftp.rs
FTP manager borrowing uses a lease. Listing and stat probes restore the working directory and preserve listing, metadata, and size errors.
Provider absence and listing correctness src-tauri/src/providers/*
Provider lookups distinguish confirmed absence from authentication, transport, metadata, parsing, and incomplete-listing errors. Root probes and paginated or capped listings validate response completeness.
axpdev-lab/aeroftp#1343 — Both changes update GitLab path resolution and absolute-path handling.
axpdev-lab/aeroftp#1349 — Both changes preserve uncertainty from incomplete remote listings.
axpdev-lab/aeroftp#1338 — Both changes use typed absence checks in no-clobber or synchronization flows.

FileLu uploads into capped folders can bypass destination-completeness checks and leave duplicate names after replacement. Fix strict destination resolution before merging; browsing and OpenDrive rename error handling now address the earlier concerns.

Propagate non-NotFound errors from the folder lookup.
When folder_id_by_path returns a server, authentication, or parse error, this branch converts it to Ok(None). move_item can then use the file lookup path and report NotFound for an existing folder. Preserve those errors and treat only NotFound as absence.

Update the folder lookup in the `move_item` flow to treat only `NotFound` as
absence and propagate server, authentication, and parse errors. Reuse
`folder_id_if_folder` if it already provides this behavior, preserving the
existing `None` path when the source is not a folder.
lookup_items always reads every page and keeps every entry. Callers (resolve_file_id, resolve_item_id_and_type, and resolve_folder_id on a cache miss) only need one named item.
Only a "not found" answer needs the full listing. A found item can end the loop early. In a folder with many items, every file lookup now costs one request per 1000 entries and holds the whole listing in memory.
Pass the encoded name to lookup_items and return when an entry matches. Return NotFound only after the last page.

Update lookup_items to accept the encoded target name and stop paging as soon as
an exact name match is found, returning only the matching item. Keep scanning
pages when no match is found, and let callers report NotFound only after the
final page.
require_another_listing_page makes folders with about 10,000 or more entries impossible to list.
The loops now return ParseError when page 100 is full. Before this change, the loops returned the truncated list. This is correct for absence probes (exists, stat, resolve_path_entry).
It also applies to a plain list for browsing. Two cases are affected:
A folder with more than 9,900 files or folders cannot be listed. populate_cache_for falls back to the legacy listing, which fails the same way.
A folder with exactly 10,000 entries fails, although the listing is complete. The next page would be empty.
Keep the error for probe callers. For user-facing list, consider returning the partial result and calling crate::providers::report_warning with the truncation. The error can also be avoided when page 100 is full but page 101 is empty.

12582-12582: 🎯 Functional Correctness
No queue settlement change is required here.
provider_upload_file emits file_skip with the same transfer ID when upload_if_absent reports AlreadyExists. The file_skip handler completes the tracked queue row before runSingles continues.
12504-12504: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration
The ImageKit batch path enforces no_clobber.
The batch executor applies the native create-only upload to each file. Unsupported bulk, multipart, resume, offset, and upload-session paths are disabled, so a destination created after preflight cannot be overwritten by those paths.
src-tauri/src/bin/aeroftp_cli.rs: 1
7782-7788: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration
The stat bypass already uses conditional upload.
For put, the bypass condition and the later native_guard condition are identical. The guarded path calls provider.upload_if_absent(...). The delta path is also skipped for this case. The cp and mv callers invoke the helper only with --immutable, so they cannot enter the --no-clobber bypass.
Report a create-only upload as an uncertain failure, not as a skip, when a retry after a lost answer finds the destination present: the file there may be the one this transfer wrote.
List the GitLab stat parent as a repository-root path, so a session that changed folder still finds top-level entries. Restore the kDrive working folder after stat lists the virtual root. Propagate a failed OpenDrive folder lookup during rename instead of reading it as absence.
Compile the checked MTP listing helpers only where a caller exists (Linux with libmtp, Windows, tests), which clears the dead_code error on builds without libmtp.

@coderabbitai About the outside-diff finding on src-tauri/src/providers/opendrive.rs (move_item folder lookup, around lines 1229-1232): fixed in 784c480. move_item now uses folder_id_if_folder(...).await?, so only NotFound reads as absence and server, authentication and parse errors propagate. New test: a_rename_does_not_turn_a_failed_folder_lookup_into_not_found. The new tests were seen red before the change (4 of 4 failed), and after it the 219 focused tests pass; clippy with --all-targets and the lane without libmtp (AEROFTP_DISABLE_LIBMTP=1, --features proton-native) are clean.
The Filen finding (checked listing for absence) and the two nitpicks (Box lookup_items early exit, FileLu listing at the page cap) stay open for the author of the PR and will be answered with their own commit.
Keep Filen readable entries available to browsing and positive lookups while preserving incomplete-list errors for absence, find, sync and directory removal. Route display-only GUI, CLI and MCP listings through an explicit method.
Stop Box exact-name lookups when a match is found. Let FileLu use an empty page-101 lookahead to complete the cap, warn on truncated display listings, and retain the requested cache entry during checked lookup.

Box now stops at its first exact stored encoded-name match and retains caller type checks. Only absence needs the terminal page; short/empty slot pages still advance by declared limit. The official create-folder API documents case-insensitive sibling uniqueness: https://developer.box.com/reference/post-folders. The HTTP regression puts an exact match on page 1 and refuses subsequent pages, asserting only one request.
FileLu requests page 101 only as lookahead: an empty page completes exactly 100 full pages. If it contains entries, checked probes/walks still fail; display listings retain the capped prefix with report_warning. This applies to v2, hybrid and legacy paging. GUI/CLI/MCP browsing uses the explicit display method; existing internal list callers stay checked. Tests cover exact cap, real truncation with a warning, and absence refusal. The boundary test also exposed a false absence when the bounded cache evicted an early matching name; checked lookup now retains the requested entry independently of sibling-cache churn. Selected test and gate evidence: 7 new regressions; module filters Filen 67, Box 46, FileLu 30, agent 94, legacy FTP 2, nonrecursive deletion 11, CLI listing-related tests 7, all passing (overlapping groups are not summed); Clippy all-targets -D warnings, fmt, diff and inventory checks exit 0.

The guard runs before upload_if_absent. CryptOverlayProvider does not override conditional upload, but the trait default returns NotSupported; it does not perform a raw upload. The path therefore refuses unsupported no-clobber uploads instead of writing plaintext or bypassing no-clobber semantics.
Box:lookup_items returns the first exact stored encoded-name match. Folder and file callers retain their type checks. The HTTP regression rejects later requests and asserts that lookup makes one request.
FileLu: An empty page 101 confirms completion at the cap. A nonempty page 101 makes checked listings fail. Display listings return the capped prefix with a warning. Checked lookup caches only the requested child, which prevents sibling-cache eviction from causing false absence.
I also inspected the regression definitions for the exact cap, truncation, and cache eviction. I did not run tests in this sandbox. Your reported test and gate results provide the execution evidence; full PR CI remains authoritative.
If you found this review helpful, would you consider giving us a shout-out on X?
Carry locally derived truncation status through v2 and legacy hybrid listings. Permit matched children from the readable prefix while preserving ParseError for missing names in incomplete data.
Keep destination checks for rename, upload and replace strict. Cover v2 and forced hybrid navigation, unknown names, and no native mutations from protected operations.

Do not trust cached or positively found entries for strict destination checks.
list_for_display caches files from truncated listings. resolve_path_entry_mode(..., true) returns such a cached entry before checking completeness. In addition, populate_cache_for_mode accepts a matching entry from a truncated result when cache_only is set. upload then removes that entry before creating the new file, so another unlisted same-name FileLu entry can remain.
For strict lookups, bypass the cache and reject every truncated listing. Preserve the existing behavior for display listings and non-strict positive lookups.

populate_cache_for_mode, reject truncated listings whenever a complete result is
required, even if a matching entry is present; preserve existing display and
non-strict positive-lookup behavior.

Description
Provider probes could treat refused requests, malformed metadata or incomplete listings as an absent path, allowing protected writes or destructive empty-directory operations. Missing roots/directories could also be reported as generic failures. Preserve confirmed absence separately from uncertainty across provider lookups and GUI/CLI/MCP callers.
GUI: ordinary/default folder uploads remain available; ImageKit skip propagates through single-file, explicit-batch and folder paths to the native guard. Legacy FTP metadata/list failures remain typed; server skips settle existing activity/queue state.
CLI: actual put/put-r tests retain plain uploads and prove fresh/taken × single/recursive no-clobber, preserving existing bytes. Immutable still requires verified metadata. Single-file skip retains its established exit9; successful recursive batches count skipped entries.
MCP: ordinary uploads remain available; no_clobber uses native conditional creation for ImageKit and returns skipped on a confirmed collision, retaining response fields. Other bulk guards individually probe names omitted by non-authoritative lists.
