Problem

With the slices below, Enable on a workflow whose email domain is not verified saves it as waiting. The editor cannot warn the person before that, because nothing tells it which senders are unverified or which domains they use.

This is the fourth slice of "send once verified" (Silthus/personal#196), stacked on #612. The next slice adds the Enable prompt that reads this field.

🟢 Merge risk: low · two-way door (merge-risk rubric)

  • Adds one read-only field to single-workflow responses, at the cost of one integration query each. No write behavior changes, no migration, no nodejs/ change.
  • The worst case is a detail read that fails or slows on a malformed email step. A malformed step reads as having no sender, and a test covers it.

Changes

  • API. A single-workflow read returns unverified_email_senders: the integration id and domain of each email step's sender whose domain is not verified yet, in sender id order. Write responses carry it too. The list endpoint leaves it out.
  • A transactional email workflow returns an empty list, because it refuses an unverified sender on its own. A step with no sender or a malformed config reads as having none.
  • The lookup that the enable path already used to lock unverified senders now shares its helpers with this read.
  • Mechanical: regenerated the workflows frontend types, the Zod schemas and the MCP types. The frontend HogFlow type gains the optional field.

Production lines: 83 (+73 −10) against the base branch, by git diff --numstat. Tests and generated types are excluded.

Replaces part of PostHog#123660 (the read side of its enable prompt).

How did you test this code?

  • Lane gate on HEAD: every backend test under products/workflows/backend passed on the leased box (2189 tests; run on the slice above, whose backend files are identical to this HEAD), mypy on the workflows backend is clean, ruff check and format pass, and hogli ci:preflight --strict at push reported no failures (its semgrep step timed out, so CI runs it). The frontend typecheck ran clean on the slice above, which carries this slice's frontend files unchanged.
  • CI: fork CI cannot run here, so CI on HEAD is a recorded gap.
  • Red → green: each new case failed on the base branch and passes on HEAD (evidence in proof storage).

Test rationale:

  • test_hog_flow.py: the detail lists unverified senders until they verify, and the list leaves them out; a sender rotation lists only its unverified sender; a malformed email step reads as having no sender. No existing test reads the field.

Test seam: the HogFlow REST API.

Proofs (recorded with fleet proof):

Live run On a preview stack of this commit on a leased box: the draft read, the enable PATCH response and the waiting read list {id, domain: "live-run.example.com"}; the list endpoint leaves the field out; after email/verify the Celery task takes the workflow live and the read returns []. Stubs: the DEBUG-only maildev provider stands in for the DNS check and the email provider, and the seed marks the example.com sender unverified.
Prod shape Gap, accepted by the standing rule until 2026-11-02.
Post-deploy watch Owed after the stack merges and deploys.
CI Gap: fork CI cannot run. The lane gate ran locally and on the leased box. Two fork checks are red: Semgrep (its path-filter job cannot run without the fork secret) and the lane check, which diffs against master and so counts a nodejs/ change from a slice lower in the stack. This slice changes no nodejs/ file. The nodejs/ line moves to #617, which lands before #590, so the lane check passes upstream.

Release status

  • This change is not user facing

The field is read-only and returned to everyone. Nothing reads it until the next slice, which is behind workflows-email-domain-wizard.

What the toolbar ships to customer pages, measured from the esbuild output (minified, post-tree-shake). The eager set is the entry plus everything statically imported from it — fetched before any feature runs; deferred chunks load lazily. The eager guardrail is 5.72 MiB. Each output file must also stay below 10 MB, where CloudFront stops compressing it. The module boundary is enforced separately by check-toolbar-graph.
