Intelligent Robotics – University of Vaasa

This repository documents the annual course Intelligent Robotics offered by the University of Vaasa (Finland)

Unlike traditional robotics courses, this course focuses on intelligent robots capable of perception, decision-making, and autonomous behavior similar to the difference between conventional vehicles and self-driving cars

Course Overview

The course integrates concepts from:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Control Systems
  • Sensors and Sensor Fusion
  • Decision Making
  • Motion Planning
  • Autonomous Navigation

The goal is to transform robots from simple command-executing machines into intelligent systems that understand and interact with their environment

Main Topics

  • Locomotion and Kinematics
  • Robot Perception
  • Sensor Fusion
  • Localization and Navigation
  • Decision Making and Motion Planning
  • AI Applications in Modern Robotics

Practical Components

  • Industrial visit to ABB Robotics Factory
  • Interactive on-campus lectures
  • Online participation for international students
  • Project: Designing a robot for specialized environments
  • Hands-on exercises and final exam

Course Format

  • Hybrid delivery (on-campus & online)
  • Students from Finland and abroad
  • Live interactive discussions

Upcoming Lecture
