Overview

test_codex_logs_into_mcp_server_before_first_turn[5.1-12-6] fails on slow CI runners. The test sets an invocation deadline 5.1 seconds ahead on the real clock and expects the Codex adapter to round the remaining time up to timeoutSecs: 6. Any delay over 100 ms before the adapter reads the clock leaves less than 5 seconds, so the case reads 5 without any change to the adapter. It failed three times in a row on #425, which changes no Codex code.

This change gives the test an exact remaining budget, so the result no longer depends on how fast the runner is. The 5.1 case stays, because it is the one that tells rounding up apart from ordinary rounding.

Details

  • In test_codex_logs_into_mcp_server_before_first_turn, replace the adapter's _remaining_timeout with one that returns the case's invocation timeout. The test still checks the OAuth timeout cap, rounding up to whole seconds, and the login request sequence.
  • No adapter or product code changes.

Validation

  • pytest tests/adapters/test_codex_adapter.py::test_codex_logs_into_mcp_server_before_first_turn: 3 passed in each of 10 runs on macOS, and 3 passed with a 1-second sleep added before the invocation (temporary, not committed).
  • ruff format --check and ruff check on the test file: clean.
  • Not run: the full Python suite (test-only change).

Where should the reviewer start?

tests/adapters/test_codex_adapter.py, test_codex_logs_into_mcp_server_before_first_turn. Check that the patched remaining budget keeps every assertion meaningful.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Made the OAuth timeout test deterministic while preserving its expected 6-second timeout.

The 5.1 s case failed whenever the runner took more than 100 ms before the
adapter read the deadline. 5.9 s still checks rounding up to 6 and allows
900 ms of delay.

Walkthrough

The OAuth timeout test overrides _remaining_timeout with the invocation timeout. The test retains the expected effective timeout of 6 seconds for the 5.1-second case.

The test sets _remaining_timeout to the invocation timeout, removing clock-dependent timing from the 5.1-second case. It expects an effective timeout of 6 seconds.

A wider margin only made the timing failure rarer. Patch the adapter's
remaining-time helper so the 5.1 s case checks rounding up without
depending on runner speed.
