Refs #207 (ApplicationCommand and its managers remain, so this does not close it).

🧭 Context

#207 asks to port discord.js's ApplicationEmoji and ApplicationCommand into plugin-gateway. Pullfrog's plan splits it in three: ClientApplication (merged, #238), the emoji half (this PR), and the command half (a separate PR). This one is only the emoji half.

📚 Description

Adds ApplicationEmoji and ApplicationEmojiManager, reachable as client.application.emojis. Application emojis belong to the application rather than a guild, so the bot can use them in any guild.

Following Pullfrog's recommendations:

  • The manager is a plain BaseManager and fetch-only, like WebhookManager. Discord sends no gateway event for application emojis, so a cache would go stale with nothing to repair it, and no new plugin-cache entity is added.
  • ApplicationEmoji#equals() compares only what the payload carries. APIApplicationEmoji has id, name, animated and user, but no managed, requires_colons, available or roles, so I did not port discord.js's defaults for them: equals() compares the ID, name and animated, against an ApplicationEmoji or a raw emoji. Anything else returns false, including a GuildEmoji or another Emoji, as in plugin-gateway: structure compatibility of equals() across structures (discord.js parity) #203/feat(plugin-gateway)!: align equals() with discord.js across structures #218. This is stated in the TSDoc and the README.
  • REST goes through @discordjs/core's ApplicationsAPI (getEmojis returns { items }, which fetch() turns into a Collection). Those endpoints take no audit-log reason, so neither do the methods here. No new GatewayError codes were needed.

Deviations from the plan: none beyond the above. client.application already existed (#238) and is never null, so client.application.emojis is a lazily created manager on it, with no placeholder.

Key changes

File Change
src/structures/emojis/ApplicationEmoji.ts New: extends Emoji, with author, application, edit(), setName(), delete(), fetchAuthor(), equals()
src/managers/ApplicationEmojiManager.ts New: fetch(id?), create() (reuses resolveImage), edit(), delete(), fetchAuthor(), hydrate()
src/structures/applications/ClientApplication.ts One additive emojis getter
src/structures/emojis/index.ts, src/managers/index.ts Export lines
tests/application-emojis.test.ts, tests/types/application-emojis.ts Runtime tests on the mocked REST client, and a type-level test
README.md, .changeset/gateway-application-emoji.md Docs, and a minor changeset for @wolfstar/plugin-gateway

Type of Change

  • New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
  • Bug fix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue)
  • Breaking change (fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to not work as expected)
  • Documentation change
  • Workflow / CI change

Pre-flight Checklist

  • I have read the Contributing Guidelines (if applicable)
  • My code follows the code style of this project
  • I have added tests that prove my fix is effective or that my feature works
  • New and existing unit tests pass locally with my changes
  • I have updated the documentation accordingly
  • I added a changeset with pnpm changeset (or pnpm changeset add --empty if no release is needed). See .changeset/README.md.

Verification: pnpm build, pnpm typecheck and pnpm test (122 files, 1726 tests) pass. pnpm lint: oxlint reports only warnings that predate this change; oxfmt --check passes on the changed files (on a Windows checkout with CRLF line endings it flags every file, so I checked the changed ones as LF).

🪧 More tips
  • Run npx skills add coldteadotai/pr-lens, then tell your coding agent: "Diagram the change you just made with PR Lens and attach it to the pull request."
  • Run npx @coldtea/pr-lens-cli analyze --base origin/main on a branch, then npx @coldtea/pr-lens-cli render .pr-lens/graph.json. Same lenses, your own model key, before the pull request exists
  • Click the link under each diagram to open it on a canvas you can zoom, pan and step through
  • Open a diagram on the canvas, then press W or click play to walk through the change one step at a time
  • The CLI's render reads .github/pr-lens.yml and applies your renames, exclusions and lane pins at draw time
  • Set github.comment.collapsed: true in .github/pr-lens.yml to fold the comment behind one View architecture and data flow row. Drawing still runs as before
  • Set github.draw: on-demand in .github/pr-lens.yml and PR Lens stops drawing pull requests on its own. Comment @pr-lens draw on a pull request when you want that one drawn
  • Add .github/workflows/pr-lens.yml with coldteadotai/pr-lens/packages/action@v0 and your model provider's key as its api-key to run PR Lens from your own CI. Any /chat/completions endpoint works
  • After a push, tick Redraw to draw the latest commit
  • Switch GitHub to dark mode and the diagrams follow. The moving dots are this pull request's data in motion

Reviewed changes

Reviewed the full diff of the single commit: new structure, manager, wiring, docs, changeset and tests.

  • ApplicationEmoji — extends Emoji with author, application, edit, setName, delete, fetchAuthor and an equals that compares only ID, name and animated. It follows the GuildEmoji shapes (edit patches via kPatch(toJSON()), delete returns this, dropRelations("author") on patch).
  • ApplicationEmojiManager — fetch-only BaseManager over client.api.applications, with fetch, create, edit, delete, fetchAuthor and hydrate. It matches GuildEmojiManager for image resolution and author resolution.
  • ClientApplication#emojis — lazily created, memoized manager getter.
  • Docs, changeset, tests — README section, a minor changeset, runtime tests on mocked REST and a type-level test.

Reviewed changes

Re-reviewed the PR after the rebase onto main (post #252) and the follow-up tidy commit, checking the two nits from the prior review against the current diff.

  • Import order — ApplicationEmojiManager now sits with the other ../../managers imports in ClientApplication.ts, directly after ApplicationCommandManager.
  • Test patch symbol — tests/application-emojis.test.ts imports kPatch from ../src/index.js and calls existing[kPatch](...), replacing the Symbol.for("djs.structures.patch") as never lookup.
  • Rebase — the ApplicationEmoji structure, ApplicationEmojiManager, ClientApplication#emojis getter, README section, changeset and tests are otherwise unchanged and still consistent with the surrounding GuildEmoji/GuildEmojiManager conventions.
