When designing a feature:

Use the the Design Tenets to choose and prioritize its capabilities, interaction, and visuals.
When implementing a feature, iterate on the code by:

Making it work (show that it is possible)
Making it tidy (minimize the code complexity, choose good names)
Making it fast (optimize for speed and resources)

It's ok to anticipate the next iteration, but not prematurely to trade away maintainability or readability.
