better-compact and handoff now clean up stale work before they save. The audit lists background tasks, monitors, watches, crons, wake-ups, loops and the task list. Anything a checkable fact shows is done gets stopped or closed without asking: the CI it polls finished, the PR merged, the check passed. After merge, update both plugins.

  • What stays running is named by id in the compact message or the handoff, so the next turn knows what its notifications are.
  • A hunch ("probably not needed") is not enough to close something. Stopping something that's still working (a build, a test run, a long or paid job) asks first.
  • handoff already told the model not to close pending items on its own judgment. That rule now says only a checkable fact closes one, so the two rules agree.
  • Versions: better-compact 2.1.0, handoff 1.1.0.

Tested with mise run verify and mise run test, plus one live Haiku run in a scratch repo, recorded as experiment 36 in docs/experiments.md. It stopped the stale background job and the merged PR's cron, kept the benchmark cron and named it. The task-list part wasn't exercised, because that session had no task tool.

The audit now lists what still runs or is scheduled (background tasks, monitors, watches, crons, wake-ups, loops) and the task list, and sorts each item. Items a checkable fact shows are done (the CI finished, the PR merged, the check passed) are stopped or closed without asking; a hunch is not enough, and stopping something still doing work is ask-first. What stays is named in the compact message or the handoff.
