📋 Description

The 18 docs describe a direct upgrade from Umbraco 13, but Umbraco 18 can only upgrade from 16.4 or later: umbraco/Umbraco-CMS#22618 removed the migrations from 13 to 17. This PR routes 13 upgrades through 17, the latest LTS, in 18/:

  • Upgrade Your Project: the LTS example is now 13 to 17 to 18, plus a line on the 16.4 minimum.
  • Find Your Upgrade Path: a new "17.latest to the latest version" step. The 13 section is now "13.latest to 17.latest", with a hint.
  • Breaking Changes Overview: an "Upgrade to Umbraco 17 first" preparation step.
  • Migrate Content to Umbraco 15: a hint that 18 doesn't include this migration. The GitHub links point at release-17.7.0 instead of main, where the files no longer exist.
  • Downgrades and Re-Running Migrations: the example uses the latest Umbraco 17 state from the 18 migration plan, instead of a 14 state that no longer exists.
  • Engage (17): the link to the 13 section now points at the 17.latest docs, because this PR renames that section in 18.

This PR is AI-generated with Claude Code, following the AI contribution guidelines. The claims are checked against the CMS source: UmbracoPlan on main (InitialStateVersion = new(16, 4, 0), and {3A1A8047-74AE-491A-B2C4-0BAE4A1289EC} as the last 17 state), and the V_15_0_0 files at release-17.7.0.

Product & Version (if relevant)

Umbraco CMS 18, plus one link in the Umbraco Engage 17 docs.

Deadline (if relevant)

None, though Umbraco 13 reaches end of life on 14-12-2026, and 18.latest is the default docs version.

📚 Helpful Resources

…sions older than 16.4

Umbraco 18 removed the migrations from 13 to 17 (umbraco/Umbraco-CMS#22618),
but the 18 docs still described a direct upgrade from 13. Route 13 upgrades
through 17, add a 17 to 18 step, note that 18 doesn't include the content
migration to 15, and use a migration state from the 18 plan in the downgrade
example. Point the Engage link to the 13 section at the 17 docs.

Part of #8580.
