Muse native tool evidence: add a Muse adapter #127

Open

Description

@lukemaj

What: Agent Observer gains a native Muse adapter plus the small report and availability changes that let Muse tool, read and skill evidence reach task and public outputs, with MCP versus built-in identity and visible gaps.
Why: No Muse adapter exists, and design review R1 showed existing consumers would still drop response-less sessions, print zero tokens for unmeasured usage and call log-less child sessions available.
So what: PR #141 passed independent implementation review (R5) and the real native proof; it waits for the human's merge decision. This Issue closes after the merge; install and deploy stay with the human.

Outcome

agent-observer sync --harness muse imports real persisted Muse sessions idempotently. For a task that explicitly owns a Muse session, task show --json and publish --dry-run --json report its tool calls, results, read attempts, skill invocations and catalog-proven MCP results without any imported responses; token totals and phase estimates read unknown or lower bound in JSON, task text and publication, never zero; unsupported families read unavailable, and measured counts beside an unsupported contributor read partial; linked child sessions without logs read not available and unowned children appear as a gap. Contributes to the Objective's native tool/read/skill coverage with explicit ownership and visible gaps, for Muse work run through Chromeria V2.

Problem Statement

Muse runs under Chromeria V2 (driver: muse) on bestia. Observer has no Muse adapter, so a Muse session's tool calls do not exist in the ledger. Chromeria's product projection of the same turn is lossy (the real MCP web_read call projects as web_search), so it cannot stand in. Existing report consumers assume every measured session has responses.

Solution

One new adapter agent_observer/adapters/muse.py reads Muse's append-only session.jsonl files read-only. Bounded changes at the existing owners: ingest.insert_event (reconcile mode), privacy (three detail keys), report (event-only activity, unmeasured usage per partition and phase, partial or unavailable activity coverage, linked-child gap), lookup.availability (source-less linked child), cli and publish (render those), t3 (driver map). No new table, store or logger; no imported or placeholder responses.

Native source (verified 2026-10-19, Muse 1.4.11-R6667.1, default model muse-wonder-1.0, bestia)

Layout: ~/.local/share/muse/sessions/YYYY/MM/DD/<session id>/session.jsonl; internal child logs at <session dir>/subagent/<child id>/session.jsonl. Other files there are not read.

Each line is one frame: record_type: event, payload_type, schema_version, payload_schema_version, sequence, id (UUID), causation_id, recorded_at (int), stream {id, kind: session}, payload. runtime.session frames carry payload.kind (run or task), payload.run_id and payload.event. Line 1 is a retained envelope (frame_schema_version, retained_frame, children[].record_json) with no record_type.

Each present child log has one call and its committed result but no tool_batch.effect frames, and never names its parent. Muse records no Muse CLI version, so client_version stays NULL. T3 V2 records nativeThreadRef{driver: muse, strength: strong, nativeId: <session id>} and nativeTurnRef{driver: muse, nativeId: <run id>}.

Elon record

  • Requirements and who asked: User 2026-10-19: Muse support in Observer under Muse native tool evidence: add a Muse adapter #127 with an agent assigned; idempotent import; explicit task/session/native ownership; MCP versus built-in identity; available/missing/ambiguous coverage; provenance and privacy in public outputs. Parent accepted all five R1 corrections (comment 6277346418) and all three R2 corrections (comment 6277536510). Chromeria#447: per-harness research-tool counts. Objective: native tool, read, skill coverage with visible gaps.
  • Deleted: Blanket unknown for every response-less session (only harnesses declaring model_usage=False are unmeasured); a whole-cell unavailable marker; Router's importer capabilities as native coverage; following record-supplied child log paths; usage/responses import (output-includes-reasoning unverifiable; shown unknown instead); user messages and prompt excerpts; assistant text; URL targets; text indexer (lookup.show keeps its existing not_found); ContextMD and fleet changes; inference from T3 projection, name prefix or path guesses for missing children; a new mcp_calls counter; a privacy version bump (no stored value changes meaning); a delta-only parser with persisted join state.
  • Bottleneck: Implementation and its independent exact-head review.
  • Checked myself: R1 report (SHA-256 18a3fe8a…3b43) and parent comment in full; at 8ffae39: report._phase_report, _bucket_totals, _usage_totals, scope_totals, task_sessions, task_report gaps and cost, publish.summarize and rendering, lookup.availability and _backing_without_events, ingest.JsonlSource.records and insert_event, db.upsert_session, privacy.filter_detail, adapter CAPABILITIES of all harnesses, Grok child rows; sanitized counts of the real root and both child logs (run ids on run, task and effect frames; child logs lack effects and parent ids). For R2: R2 report (SHA-256 d99b8863…3976) in full; report._phase_report usage, estimate and activity construction; cli._fmt_section_total, task and phase text, sessions list projection and sessions show; publish phase tables; pricing.price_scope; ingest.JsonlSource.finish(session_id=…); adapter CAPABILITIES (model_usage True for Codex, Claude, OpenCode, Grok; absent for Router).

Acceptance criteria

  • sync --harness muse [--source FILE] imports a session; an unchanged re-run inserts and updates nothing; a split fixture imported after every append ends identical to a one-pass import.
  • Each native call yields exactly one tool_call and at most one tool_result, keyed by call_id. Effects and committed results never add calls or results.
  • tool_result exists once a terminal effect or committed result exists; status is ok/error from the terminal outcome, else NULL; size_bytes is the committed text's UTF-8 length, else NULL, filled in place later. A call with neither stays unanswered in trace.
  • tool_call and tool_result carry tool_source mcp (with mcp_server, mcp_tool from the catalog), builtin (in active tools, in no catalog) or unknown (no catalog or toolset in the session, or conflicting catalog entries). A prefix alone never yields mcp.
  • read_file yields one read attempt with its path (status from the same result); read_skill yields one skill_invoke; skill_read_observed adds nothing.
  • Exactly one turn_started and one turn_ended per run under distinct event ids; kind=task frames add no turn, event or error.
  • Task with the root session owned exclusively: activity shows 7 tool calls, 1 failed tool result, 1 MCP result, 5 reads, 1 skill invocation; attributed, scope and that phase's usage have null buckets with usage_status: unknown; the phase estimated_cost is not complete and has no total; shared_joint (empty, nothing shared) stays exact zero; file changes read unavailable (value null).
  • Same task plus one owned measured Codex session in the same phase: attributed and phase buckets keep the measured numbers with usage_status: lower_bound; task show text prints >=N (lower bound) for attributed and phase totals; publication renders the same and an unmeasured sessions (1) row with unknown buckets and cost. With mixed counter semantics, by_semantics stays and no combined raw bucket appears.
  • Controls unchanged: a measured-only task, an empty unrelated shared partition and a known-zero measured scope keep exact values; a response-less session of a harness declaring model_usage=True keeps today's exact rendering.
  • sessions list prints total=unknown for a Muse session and keeps usage_status; sessions show JSON keeps usage_status and unmeasured_sessions.
  • Mixed activity cells: an owned OpenCode session with one file change beside the Muse session reports file_changes: 1 with coverage partial (rendered >=1 (partial)); a Claude skill invocation beside a Codex session reports skill_invocations: 1 partial; a Muse-only cell reports file changes unavailable; supported measured zeros stay 0. A Router-owned Codex session uses Codex's capabilities, not Router's.
  • sessions availability lists 2 children available and 5 ledger_only (no_source), also for a direct --session query; a log appearing later turns its child available without new session, link or event rows; parent-first and child-first imports end identical.
  • A task owning the root but not its children lists the children under unbound_child_sessions and is not complete.
  • T3 sync maps driver: muse strong refs to muse:<native id> sessions and binds a linked thread's root; missing or weak refs bind nothing.
  • Unsupported versions or missing required fields on consumed variants land in import_errors (unsupported_schema, schema_error, missing_id) with key names only; unconsumed kinds are skipped silently.
  • No free text in the ledger: no args beyond validated targets, no outcome.reason, no result text, prompts, hooks or memory.
  • Runtime proof on the real session matches the counts in Required proof.

User stories

  1. As the user, I want Muse MCP and built-in research calls counted from native records, so Chromeria#447 adoption counts include Muse truthfully.
  2. As an agent reviewing a task, I want Muse tool calls joined to results and owned by the task, so I can see what the Muse worker did.
  3. As a reader of a public summary, I want unmeasured usage, unsupported families and missing child logs stated, so absence is not read as zero.

Implementation decisions

Adapter (adapters/muse.py). HARNESS="muse", CAPABILITIES, sync(con, root=None, full=False, source=None). Default root ~/.local/share/muse/sessions, files */session.jsonl and */subagent/*/session.jsonl. Session key muse:<stream.id>.

Reconstruction (R4). JsonlSource keeps its unchanged check, line ordinals and offsets. When a file is new or changed, the adapter parses the whole file's complete lines (stopping at a partial trailing line, as records() does) and rebuilds the session state in memory: catalog union and active-tool union (a session-level identity rule, not a claim about which catalog was live at each call), calls by call_id, terminal by call_id, committed result by tool_call_id, runs, child links. Only after the pass does it write each event with its final values, so arrival order and append boundaries cannot leave a first-seen guess. args is decoded with json.loads; a non-object or undecodable string gives no target. Event ordinal_num is native sequence (chronology); import errors use the JsonlSource line ordinal. Muse files are single-session and small (real root 554 KB); a full parse per changed file is the cost, stated in the contract.

Reconcile write (R4, callee-owned). ingest.insert_event gains reconcile=True: on an existing natural key it sets every evidence column (ordinal_num, ts, turn_id, name, target, status, duration_ms, size_bytes, fingerprint, detail_json) to the given values and counts events_updated only when a value changed. The existing update and default paths stay unchanged for other adapters.

Event mapping. Native id per session and family:

Family Native id Source Values
tool_call call_id committed call name = native tool name; target = path for read_file/edit_file/write_file, command for bash (rule 8); argument fingerprint; identity detail
tool_result call_id terminal and/or committed result status ok/error/NULL; size_bytes UTF-8 or NULL; same identity detail
read call_id read_file call target path; status mirrors the result (NULL until terminal)
skill_invoke call_id read_skill call target = validated name
lifecycle turn_started / turn_ended frame id of the run started / terminal frame kind=run only turn muse:<run_id>
lifecycle subagent_spawned child session id child link

Every event's turn_id is muse:<payload.run_id>. Turns table rows muse:<run_id> with start, end and state from the run frames (the id T3 nativeTurnRef carries). SessionIdentity.observe_path receives each read_file path.

Schema dispatch. Consumed variants: the catalog, session metadata/opened/branch/end, effect started/terminal, and kind=run events started, terminal, model_request_configured, assistant_tool_calls_committed, tool_result_batch_committed, memory_reminder_child_session_linked. Each requires schema_version == 1 and its payload schema version as observed; otherwise unsupported_schema; missing required ids give missing_id. Everything else, including the envelope, model_completed, skill_read_observed and all kind=task frames, is skipped without an error.

Children (R3). A link upserts muse:<child> with parent_session_key and role="subagent" (Grok's convention), no source. A discovered child log takes its parent only from its own actual location <parent id>/subagent/<child id>/session.jsonl under the scanned root, and only when the <child id> directory equals the log's stream.id and both directory names are Muse session-id shaped; on mismatch the log imports as a session without a parent plus an identity_conflict import error. The adapter never opens or stores child_session_log_path from record text. Parent-first and child-first imports converge through upsert_session's fill-unknown merge. Defined equality for the order test: identical sessions rows except sessions.source_id (set only on insert, so it stays NULL when the link came first) and import timestamps; identical events, turns and import errors except row ids; identical availability, which converges through sources.session_id set by JsonlSource.finish. No path is guessed for a link without a log.

Availability (R3, lookup). _backing_without_events adds one select: a session with parent_session_key set and no backing source in any table yields a row with a NULL source, which the existing loop already resolves to source_missing / no_source, so the session is ledger_only in the machine summary and in a direct query. A parent's readable log is never used for its child. This also corrects Grok child rows without logs, which today read available; the PR reports that change.

Report (R1, R2, R3 and review-2 findings, report.py).

  • Event-only activity (R1). _phase_report iterates sessions from attributed rows plus the exclusively owned whole sessions it already receives, so a response-less owned session contributes activity. Shared sessions stay out as today.
  • Unmeasured session (review-2 R2-1). A session is unmeasured only when it exists in the ledger, has no responses, and its native harness (sessions.harness) declares model_usage=False. Today that is only Muse; Codex, Claude, OpenCode and Grok declare True and Router declares none, so existing empty-session rendering does not change. empty_sessions, unavailable_usage and cost gaps keep their current rule.
  • Partitions. Each unmeasured session goes to the partition its responses would have taken: exclusive whole ownership or non-joint prompt ownership → attributed; whole_shared, whole_conflicts or only-joint prompts → shared_joint; every in-scope session → scope. Unowned in-scope sessions (unbound children) go only to scope. An empty partition with no unmeasured session stays exact zero.
  • Marking. One helper _mark_unmeasured(totals, sessions): no-op for an empty set; otherwise adds unmeasured_sessions (sorted keys) and usage_status. With zero responses in that partition every raw bucket becomes null and the status is unknown; with responses the numbers stay as measured subtotals and the status is lower_bound. In a mixed-semantics dict, by_semantics stays as is, no combined bucket is added, and the status is lower_bound. responses, unknown_counts (response-level), model rows and reconciliation are untouched.
  • Applied at. task_report attributed and shared_joint; scope_totals (computes its own unmeasured set from its keys), which covers task scope, sessions list, sessions show and session publishing; and every phase in _phase_report that holds events of an unmeasured attributed session (the phase its events are already labeled with; no other phase). For such a phase, estimated_cost is updated like the existing task-level gap path: complete=False, estimated_cost_usd_total=None, status unknown without priced responses else partial, coverage_note naming unmeasured sessions.
  • Activity (R1, review-2 R2-3). mcp_results counts a result whose detail tool_source is mcp; a result with no tool_source keeps the existing mcp. name rule (Codex); Muse always writes the enum, including unknown. New skill_invocations counter. Each counter maps to one capability (tool_calls→tool_calls; failed_tool_results, mcp_results→tool_results; reads→read_evidence; file_changes→file_change; skill_invocations→skill_invocation), looked up per contributing session by its native sessions.harness (the event's own session, never task_turns.harness, so Router-owned native sessions keep their native capabilities). A session contributes to a cell when any of its events is labeled into it. Declared False is unsupported; True or undeclared is supported. If every contributor is unsupported the counter is null and activity_coverage[counter]="unavailable"; if only some are, the measured count stays and activity_coverage[counter]="partial"; otherwise there is no coverage entry.
  • Linked children (R3). unbound_child_sessions also lists sessions whose parent_session_key is an owned scope session and which the task does not own. A link never assigns ownership; the gap feeds the existing unavailable_usage, complete, cost and snapshot paths.

CLI text (review-2 R2-2, cli.py). _fmt_section_total (task attributed, shared, unassigned and phase lines) treats usage_status == "lower_bound" as a lower bound in addition to response-level unknown_counts, and appends ; N unmeasured sessions when unmeasured_sessions is present; a mixed-semantics section keeps mixed semantics (see --json) with the same suffix. sessions list projects usage_status into each row; a Muse session's null total already renders unknown through _fmt_session_total. sessions show already emits the whole scope_totals dict. Phase text prints activity_coverage beside the activity counts.

Publish. Reads the same fields: the phase usage table adds one unmeasured sessions (N) row per affected phase with unknown buckets and cost, while measured rows render as today; the activity table adds a skill column and renders unavailable for null counters and >=N (partial) for partial ones. Headline and total_cost already read unknown or "at least" through unavailable_usage. Existing gap flags stay.

Privacy. tool_call and tool_result detail keys tool_source (new closed-enum validator mcp|builtin|unknown), mcp_server and mcp_tool (existing identifier validator). No privacy version bump: no existing stored value changes.

T3. DRIVER_HARNESSES["muse"] = "muse" and Muse in the exact-native-id binding branch; prompt origins find no Muse user messages and stay unmatched.

Registration. adapters.ORDER, db.HARNESSES, docs/contracts.md (adapter, families, reconcile mode, availability rule, activity fields), README.md, CHANGELOG.md, minor version bump.

Rejected: importing through T3 state; persisting join context in a new table; delta-only parsing; auto-binding children to the parent's task; deriving child log paths; treating effect frames or skill_read_observed as events; a privacy version bump.

Design review

  • R1 (independent, FAIL): private report SHA-256 18a3fe8afa31098825f7a822047d210d6d5a2ab3027395811de462da76843b43, posted as comment 6277346418. Parent accepted all five corrections. Resolution: R1 event-only activity and catalog MCP → Report bullets 1–2; R2 unknown usage and unavailable families → Report bullets 2–3 and Publish; R3 child availability and task gap → Children, Availability, Report bullet 4; R4 reconstruction → Reconstruction and Reconcile write; R5 lifecycle keys → Event mapping. Optional notes → Schema dispatch, Privacy, observe_path, lookup.show not_found, T3 exact joins.
  • R2 (independent, FAIL, three bounded findings): private report SHA-256 d99b8863183d8935873cd1bb8545a50ff2eb5ceb52e8170119dc2388d8983976, posted as comment 6277536510; R1-1, R1-3, R1-4, R1-5 cleared, R1-2 partially. Parent accepted all three. Resolution: R2-1 phase usage and estimate → Report Unmeasured session, Partitions, Marking, Applied at; R2-2 CLI text and projections → CLI text; R2-3 partial coverage and native harness → Report Activity and Publish. Nonblocking notes → Children (source_id equality, safe layout) and Reconstruction (session-level identity rule; tests separate physical order from sequence).
  • R3 (independent, PASS): reviewer Codex gpt-6.1-sol, high effort, through T3 Code; private report SHA-256 60fcc985d2e8c6027205b9ed1a691c40a1640b058ddc1cc2b74a16ce1f943446, reviewed body e311b048…2f9f, posted as comment 6277741306. All R1 and R2 findings cleared; notes: append/reorder tests assert literal counts, status, identity and UTF-8 sizes, not only equality; keep known-zero, mixed-semantics and other-adapter contracts.
  • User decisions: 2026-10-19 parent brief: implement Muse support and deliver a reviewed PR; no merge, install or deploy; Chromeria#423 not blocked. Parent accepted R1 (5 corrections), R2 (3 corrections) and the R3 PASS, and admitted implementation; the real root plus two-child scratch-ledger proof runs only after independent implementation review.

Testing decisions

Public seam: CLI sync, trace, sessions availability, task show --json, publish --dry-run --json on a temp ledger, as in tests/test_grok.py, tests/test_source_availability.py and tests/test_publish.py. Synthetic fixture under tests/fixtures/muse/ with real frame shapes and invented ids, no copied text: a failed and a completed read_file, a read_skill, a catalog MCP call, a call with no terminal or result, an mcp__-named tool absent from the catalog, a mcp.-named built-in, a terminal before its committed result and the reverse, a catalog appended after an earlier call, a partial trailing line, two child links with one log, kind=task started frames. Tests fail before the change.

Cases: one-pass versus split-after-each-append equality, with physical line order differing from sequence; unchanged re-run zero writes; reordered result/terminal; size filled later on the same row; parent-first versus child-first; missing child then log appears; unknown schema version on a consumed and an unconsumed kind; Muse-only, Muse plus measured, mixed-semantics, measured-only, empty-shared and genuine-zero usage in task JSON, task text, sessions list text and publication JSON and body; phase estimate completeness; OpenCode-file-change and Claude-skill partial cells, Muse-only unavailable cell, Router-owned Codex capabilities; child directory/stream mismatch; Grok child-without-log availability; existing suites unchanged otherwise.

Non-goals

No generic logger or second store; no raw transcripts, prompts or account values in public artifacts or fixtures; no routing, account, login, key, hook or config change; no installation, restart, service or fleet change; no native, provider, browser or session launch; no historical ownership guesses; no import of whole home history during proof; no #447 acceptance waiver; no change to Chromeria#423 or its PR.

Blockers

Human merge approval for #141.

Required proof

  1. Focused tests failing before and passing after, plus the full suite.
  2. Real-session proof after implementation review, on a scratch --db outside the repository, reading only the root log and its two child logs: sync --harness muse --source (root, then children, and once in the reverse order on a second scratch ledger), trace --session muse:01a155e5-036c-7000-9a32-992b3aa3648c --json, trace --capabilities, sessions availability --json, then capture create-task and assign-session --exclusive for the root, task show --json and publish --dry-run --json. Expected: 7 tool_call; 7 tool_result (6 ok, 1 error); 5 read; 1 skill_invoke; 1 MCP call and result (t3-code/web_read, 3,026 bytes); 1 turn_started, 1 turn_ended; 7 subagent_spawned; children 2 available, 5 ledger_only; 7 unbound_child_sessions; attributed, scope and phase buckets null with usage_status: unknown; phase and task cost unknown; task show text total=unknown; 1 unmeasured sessions; second sync 0 inserted and 0 updated. Only sanitized counts go into the PR.
  3. Independent exact-head code review routed by the parent.

Further notes

History: the first report (inspected HEAD 1d48f9b0ac748c11ab74132926fbf8f6e0c48766) found the registry and T3 mapping without Muse, tied to the Chromeria#447 preflight, and authorized no implementation. The user has since authorized implementation (ownership comment). Fleet installed Observer versions remain unverified. Only claim the Chromeria Muse adoption criterion from actual ordinary Muse work with independently checked counts; fixture arithmetic alone is insufficient.

Known risks: one Muse release (1.4.11) observed; new optional JSON keys (usage_status, unmeasured_sessions, activity_coverage, skill_invocations) and null activity counters for wholly unsupported families are additive but visible to JSON readers; the shared availability and unbound_child_sessions changes can turn existing Grok or Claude tasks incomplete where children lack logs or ownership (honest, reported in the PR); the unavailable marker depends on adapters declaring False; output/reasoning counter semantics remain unknown, so usage import is a follow-up.

What: I own #127 implementation from 2026-10-19 (Warsaw), in exclusive worktree branch feat/127-muse-native-evidence from 8ffae39c099a5ce1df2db8835f79bf8f68da5960; phase 1 (Spec and design) is now in the Issue body.
Why: The user explicitly authorized Muse native support in Agent Observer and assigned an agent to it; #127 is the exact owner, so no duplicate Issue.
So what: The parent coordinator dispatches independent design review of the body below; implementation waits for that verdict. Merge, install and deploy stay with the human.

Owner record: implementation agent (Claude Code, Opus 5.5) acting for the user's parent thread on bestia. Authority: implement Muse support and deliver a reviewed PR; not merge, install, deploy, or any native/provider/browser/session launch. Chromeria#423 proceeds on direct Muse proof and is not blocked by this Issue.

Requirements and who asked: User (2026-10-19): add Muse support to Observer under #127 and put an agent on it, idempotent native import, explicit ownership, MCP versus built-in identity, visible coverage, privacy kept. Chromeria#447 needs per-harness research-tool counts. Observer Objective: native tool, read and skill events with visible gaps.
Deleted: Usage import (counter semantics unverified), user-message text, assistant text, URL targets, text lookup, ContextMD and fleet changes, inference from T3's lossy projection, second store, generic logger.
Bottleneck: Independent design review of this Spec before the first adapter line.
Checked myself: Full #127, repository direction, glossary and contracts at HEAD 8ffae39; adapter registry, T3 driver mapping, privacy allowlists, report gaps; sanitized schema and counts of the real Muse 1.4.11 root session 01a155e5-036c-7000-9a32-992b3aa3648c (SHA-256 3725254f…2539) and its two child logs; read-only T3 state showing a strong muse nativeThreadRef.

What: FAIL: #127's native adapter approach is viable, but the updated Spec needs the five bounded corrections below before implementation.
Why: Existing report and availability consumers do not supply several promised outcomes, and the incremental reconciliation and lifecycle keys remain underspecified.
So what: The parent adjudicates these findings and relays accepted corrections to the author; this review makes no implementation, merge, installation or deployment claim.

Requirements and who asked: The user's review brief requires independent review of #127 against actual Muse records and existing Observer interfaces: native tool/read/skill and MCP identity, explicit ownership, honest coverage and privacy, without another store or logger. This advances the Objective's native evidence and visible-gap requirements.
Deleted: No implementation, children, provider/model/session launches, runtime CLI tests, host changes, broad history import, raw public fixtures, usage-semantics inference, or changes to Chromeria #423/PR #560. No new table or general logging architecture is needed to address these findings.
Bottleneck: The adapter-only consumer assumption prevents the Spec's task/public reporting and missing-child acceptance from being satisfied.
Checked myself: Full #127 body and its sole existing comment; local instructions, complete direction and glossaries, operations design/review references; pinned source contracts and callers; selective structural inspection and independent counts of the exact root and its two available child logs, with hashes matched to the task copies. • Repository base and HEAD: 8ffae39c099a5ce1df2db8835f79bf8f68da5960, branch feat/127-muse-native-evidence, initially clean. This is a design review, not a review of an implementation SHA.
    • Issue body SHA-256: 73c30acfcc6d251a6462b3a5a1f50de9787844354e45087c08b143553bd497ed. Read again at 23:05 Warsaw on 2026-10-19; last issue update then was 23:00:04 Warsaw.
    • Existing ownership comment: Muse native tool evidence: add a Muse adapter #127 (comment).
    • Native root: 01a155e5-036c-7000-9a32-992b3aa3648c, 362 lines, SHA-256 3725254fc2c6726d5eeb4684f2d8fbfa4af78cdfae05850cf045f797ba402539. The original and task copy match exactly.
    • Independently counted: 7 committed calls, 7 started effects, 7 terminal effects, 7 committed results; 6 completed and 1 failed; 5 read_file, 1 read_skill, 1 catalog-identified t3-code / web_read; 7 child links with 2 existing logs and 5 absent logs. Each available child has 1 tool call. Both originals match their task copies.
    • Read the complete executed handoff. Inspected native fields through private, read-only structural extraction, not full transcript output. No prompt, hook output, result content or credential-adjacent value is reproduced here.

    Required corrections

R1. High: include event-only owned sessions in task/public activity and consume authoritative MCP identity

Location: Spec Outcome, Consumers to register, Testing decisions; report.py _phase_report, publish.py.

The Spec deliberately imports no responses. _phase_report obtains its session keys exclusively from attributed response rows, then reads events only for those keys. An explicitly assigned Muse session with all 7 calls therefore produces no phase activity at all; publish.summarize forwards those empty phases. Adapter registration and T3 mapping cannot make task show or publish --dry-run show the promised tool evidence.

There is a second concrete consumer mismatch in that same activity loop: MCP results are counted only when the result name starts with mcp.. The real mcp__t3_code__web_read does not match, and an unknown or built-in identifier with an mcp. spelling must not substitute for catalog proof.

Correction: Add the minimal report/public-consumer work to scope. Select event activity using explicit owned-session/turn evidence even when there are no usage rows; do not manufacture responses. For Muse MCP results, join the call on session and call_id and use its validated tool_source, server and raw tool identity. Preserve existing ownership boundaries and other harness behavior.

Acceptance: The exclusive root-session task reports 7 tool calls, 7 results with 1 failure, 5 read attempts, 1 skill invocation and 1 proven MCP call/result through task JSON and the supported dry-run publication surface, with no responses imported. A misleading MCP-like name without catalog identity contributes no proven MCP result. The exact presentation can use the existing phase output plus a small aggregate extension where needed.

R2. High: report deferred usage and unsupported families as unknown in the promised outputs

Location: Spec Deleted, Outcome and Required proof; report.py _bucket_totals / _usage_totals, task report, publish token formatting.

sessions_without_usage correctly makes a Muse-only task incomplete, but it does not change the raw totals. _bucket_totals([]) returns numeric zero for every token bucket with no unknown counts. Task attributed and scope, and the corresponding publication usage, therefore still say zero tokens. In mixed scopes the missing Muse contribution is likewise absent from the measured-response arithmetic. Merely listing unsupported families in trace --capabilities also does not convey that support in task/public activity, whose current file-change counters default to zero.

Correction: Keep usage import deferred, but explicitly propagate a missing-usage/unsupported-family indication to the selected task/session/public outputs. Muse-only unmeasured token totals must be unknown rather than zero; mixed measured totals must be identified as measured subtotals or lower bounds. Unsupported activity families must be marked unavailable rather than presented as measured zero. This can be a bounded consumer change; no placeholder model responses or speculative token semantics are required.

Acceptance: Assert actual numeric values and rendered meaning, not just presence of sessions_without_usage: Muse-only and mixed Muse/measured-harness reports do not claim complete zero consumption or unsupported-family zero activity. A genuine known zero elsewhere remains representable.

R3. High: give missing children honest availability evidence and define task-scoped visibility

Location: Spec child acceptance and runtime proof; lookup.py _backing_without_events, availability, task session scope, T3 tree binding.

A child row with only parent_session_key and role reminder has no event or backing source. _backing_without_events requires a non-NULL source association or a matching sources.session_id; the machine availability report omits such children, and a direct child query defaults to available. Associating a missing child's session with the readable parent source would also incorrectly make its log look available. The real five missing children have no explicit child_session_log_path, so this affects the supplied proof, not just a hypothetical record.

Separately, task_sessions does not traverse parent links, and T3's proposed exact Muse native-id match binds the root only. Assigning just the root as the proof currently directs will not make the child gaps appear in task/public coverage. A link proves a relationship, not an automatic exclusive task assignment.

Correction: Specify the minimal representation/query path for a linked child with no log, reusing existing source/session evidence or a bounded availability query change. Never use the parent's readable log as proof of the child's readable log. Define how linked-child gaps reach the owned root's task/public coverage while preserving explicit ownership, or explicitly bind the relevant child sessions with evidence in the proof. Child metadata must survive both parent-first and child-first imports.

Acceptance: The 2 available and 5 missing children appear with the expected status in machine and direct-session availability; a missing child's query must not return available. The task/public report exposes the linked missing-child coverage and does not claim those children's activity is zero or silently owned. Missing logs can later appear and become available without duplicate sessions, links or events.

R4. Medium: specify reconciliation across JSONL append boundaries and out-of-order evidence

Location: Spec incremental acceptance and Event mapping; ingest.py JsonlSource.records, insert_event.

The native result is assembled from separate call, terminal-effect and committed-result frames. JsonlSource resumes after its stored byte offset and restores no catalog, toolset, call or pending-result context. insert_event defaults to ignoring an existing natural key; even its update=True branch does not update size_bytes, turn_id or timestamp. Thus a terminal imported before its committed result cannot later acquire a size merely by repeating insert_event, and a call appended after the initial catalog cannot recover identity from the delta alone. The Spec's generic appended-frame control does not select a strategy for these required joins.

Correction: Describe a per-sync reconstruction/enrichment strategy using existing source files and ledger rows, without another store. Keep call_id as the sole call/result join key. A terminal can establish the result status before a committed result supplies size; size remains NULL until then and later enriches that same row. Preserve a call without a terminal as unanswered. Reconstruct or recover catalog/toolset/run context across imports, and handle reordered evidence without permanent first-seen guesses. Define the read attempt's pending/error/ok state as evidence arrives.

Also specify JSON decoding of tool_calls[].args: the real field is a JSON string, not an object. Measure committed text as UTF-8 bytes for size_bytes: the real MCP committed text is 3,017 characters and 3,026 bytes. Keep the source line ordinal used by JsonlSource bookkeeping/errors separate from native sequence used for event chronology.

Acceptance: Split the faithful fixture at call, terminal and committed-result boundaries; import after each append and again unchanged. Compare the final sanitized events with a one-pass import, including catalog identity, status, byte size and turn links. Include a reordered result/terminal case, a catalog/toolset context boundary and a partial trailing line. No effect frame becomes another call and no result is counted twice.

R5. Medium: make lifecycle natural keys distinguish start from end

Location: Spec Event mapping, which introduces its mapping as native ids per session and family; event contract and natural keys.

Both turn_started and turn_ended belong to family lifecycle; using just the run id for both would collide under (session_key, family, native_id), since name is not part of that key. The present phrase "per run id" must identify distinct event keys, separately from the stable turn_id = muse:<run id>. Native runtime.session also carries 21 event.kind=started records: only one has payload.kind=run, while the others have payload.kind=task.

Correction: Specify separate start/end event native ids, such as validated frame ids or run-id-plus-kind, while keeping the same turn id for T3 joins. Dispatch run lifecycle only on the full consumed record variant, including payload.kind=run; internal task starts must not become extra turns or errors.

Acceptance: Exactly one start and one end survive under different event keys for the real run, including replay; no task-start frame adds a turn.

    Cleared concerns and optional notes

    • The smallest appropriate architecture remains one Muse adapter using the current ledger, plus the bounded consumer/registration/privacy changes above. There is no evidence for a second store, generic logger, Muse launch wrapper or provider integration.
    • The proposed call_id join is correct: real call id values use a different identity, while terminal effects and committed results join on call_id / tool_call_id. Committed calls, started effects, terminal effects and committed results are distinct observations of 7 calls, not 21 or 28 calls.
    • Catalog identity plus active-tool evidence is the right boundary. Keep the specified unknown state for absent or conflicting context, validate MCP server/raw-tool identifiers centrally, and add a true closed-enum validator for tool_source if needed by the existing privacy type dispatcher. Catalog-shaped prompt strings, malformed identifiers and arbitrary enum strings must fail closed. A prefix is not evidence, including in downstream reports.
    • Deferring usage is justified: the records do not establish whether output includes reasoning. No model/provider execution is needed to review this design, and the six records do not justify inventing total-token semantics. R2 concerns presentation of the deliberate gap, not a demand to import usage.
    • One skill_invoke for the read_skill call, ignoring the accompanying skill_read_observed as a second count, is appropriate for this scope. Five reads mean five attempts, including one error, not five successful reads. Keep SessionIdentity.observe_path for safe instruction identity as the existing adapter contract requires; no prompt/result persistence is needed for that path evidence.
    • Clarify schema dispatch in implementation/proof: the initial retained envelope and normal unconsumed payload/event kinds are skipped deliberately. Validate supported versions and required fields on recognized consumed variants and quarantine only those malformed/unsupported consumed records using closed categories and structural source ordinals. Do not turn every unconsumed native type, deferred model_completed or internal task event into an invented import error. The Spec's phrase "unknown payload_type ... on a consumed record" should be made operationally precise.
    • Adding Muse to the T3 driver map and exact-native-id binding branch can reuse the existing strong-thread-reference flow. Test that exact session/run identities join, and missing/ambiguous references do not cause guessed ownership. The isolated T3 home is already supported by explicit sync --source; no home/config change or broad import is needed.
    • Leaving the text indexer unsupported is reasonable. The actual existing lookup.show result for a live source with no indexer is not_found, not a dedicated unsupported status; document/test the existing result accurately rather than claiming a status the function does not return.

    Unchecked and decision boundary

No implementation exists in the reviewed candidate, and no runtime CLI proof or full test suite was run or required for this design review. Muse binary internals, future Muse versions, reasoning-counter semantics, missing child-log contents, fleet installation state and live T3 database rows were not independently verified here; the existing T3 source contracts and native original files were inspected. These unknowns do not justify blocking Chromeria #423/PR #560 or launching a provider.

The parent owns adjudication. After accepted corrections are incorporated, the author can implement and provide the Spec's focused/full checks and bounded native-session CLI proof, followed by independent exact-head implementation review. No review/independent commit status applies to this design-only artifact.

What: The revised Spec (R2 candidate, body SHA-256 038040d1a4ea4b2de992a11cf76b2fec66d7c34e818c858bf89e574f6be25ac6) incorporates all five accepted R1 corrections; no code is written.
Why: R1 (comment 6277346418, report SHA-256 18a3fe8a…3b43) showed existing report, availability and ingest consumers could not deliver the promised outputs.
So what: The parent dispatches a fresh independent R2 design review; implementation waits for it.

Mapping (details in the body's Implementation decisions and Testing decisions):

    • R1 → _phase_report includes exclusively owned response-less sessions; mcp_results uses catalog tool_source on the result, prefix rule kept only for results without it (Codex).
    • R2 → unmeasured_sessions with usage_status unknown (null buckets) or lower_bound on attributed, shared_joint, scope and scope_totals; activity unavailable from adapters' False capabilities; genuine zeros unchanged.
    • R3 → _backing_without_events yields a NULL-source row for a linked child with no backing source (no_source, ledger_only); child parent from link or directory layout, never a guessed path; unbound_child_sessions includes unowned children of owned sessions.
    • R4 → full-file reconstruction per changed file, then insert_event(reconcile=True) writes final values in place; args JSON-decoded; UTF-8 sizes; sequence versus line ordinal kept separate.
    • R5 → turn_started/turn_ended keyed by their frame ids, only for payload.kind=run; turn id stays muse:<run_id>.

Requirements and who asked: User authority for #127 implementation; parent accepted R1's five corrections.
Deleted: Usage import, new tables or persisted join state, child auto-binding, guessed child paths, privacy version bump.
    Bottleneck: Fresh R2 design review.
Checked myself: R1 report in full and the named owner functions at 8ffae39; sanitized real-record facts (run ids on all frames; child logs carry no effects or parent id).

What: FAIL: #127's R2 Spec has a viable Muse import design, with three bounded report-consumer corrections still required.
Why: The proposed unknown-usage helper leaves phase totals unchanged, CLI text does not consume its new lower-bound status, and mixed activity rendering can suppress measured evidence.
So what: The parent adjudicates these findings before implementation; this design review grants no implementation, merge, installation or deployment approval.

Requirements and who asked: The user's R2 review brief requires Muse-native tool/result/read/skill import, catalog identity, explicit ownership, honest missing evidence and private source handling, with the smallest changes to existing owners. This advances the Objective's native evidence and visible-gap requirements.
Deleted: No new table, logger, saved join state, usage inference, placeholder responses, generic report rewrite, source edit, child delegation, provider/session launch or runtime test. No change to Chromeria #423 or its independent PR #560 review.
Bottleneck: Propagating the deliberately unmeasured Muse contribution through the actual report consumers without losing existing measured evidence.
Checked myself: Full current #127 body and all three comments; full original R1 report and executed handoff; local instructions, direction, connected glossaries and operations design/review references; source contracts, report/publish/CLI/lookup/ingest/privacy/db/adapters/T3 and representative tests/helpers at the pinned HEAD; selective structural extraction of the exact root and its two child logs, matched against all three task copies. No native prompt, hook, result text or account value is included here.

    Candidate and scope

    • Reviewed body SHA-256: 038040d1a4ea4b2de992a11cf76b2fec66d7c34e818c858bf89e574f6be25ac6, rechecked at 23:17 Warsaw on 2026-10-19, with three comments.
    • Source base and HEAD: 8ffae39c099a5ce1df2db8835f79bf8f68da5960; branch feat/127-muse-native-evidence, clean. Locally known origin/main is the same SHA, divergence 0 0; no fetch or checkout operation was performed. No implementation exists.
    • Original R1 report hash independently matched: 18a3fe8afa31098825f7a822047d210d6d5a2ab3027395811de462da76843b43; R1 comment. Read the author's R2 response and ownership comment in full.
    • Native root hash independently matched: 3725254fc2c6726d5eeb4684f2d8fbfa4af78cdfae05850cf045f797ba402539, 362 complete JSON lines. Root: 7 calls, 7 started effects, 7 terminal effects, 7 committed results; 5 read_file, 1 read_skill, 1 catalog-proven MCP web_read; 7 child links, 2 paths. Catalog and active-tool frames precede the root calls. MCP committed text measures 3,026 UTF-8 bytes, not the 2,009-byte page-body field inside its JSON wrapper.
    • Both present child logs have one call and one committed result, no effect frames and no parent-id fields. Original/task-copy hashes match: 8ff6a266c2c93a0f44e297dd7f43f161744154e470f55942a8fde194e003ce18 and b0c2e9982466cd59c4c08cb3f360cb3ee4bfeec0e680559504edbc0ccfeca208. Each has active-tool evidence but no MCP catalog, so the Spec's unknown identity rule applies.

    Required corrections

R2-1. High: apply the missing-usage meaning to event-bearing phase totals

Location: Spec Implementation decisions, Report unmeasured-usage bullet; report.py _phase_report, especially the phase usage and estimated_cost construction.

Trigger and effect: Own the real Muse root exclusively, exactly as the required proof directs. The new session union gives it an activity phase, but the Spec applies its helper only to attributed, shared_joint, scope and scope_totals. _phase_report still constructs that phase's usage with _usage_totals([]), which returns six exact numeric zeros, and its estimate with price_scope([]), which returns a complete $0 total. Both are returned by task JSON and forwarded unchanged to dry-run publication JSON. The native task therefore has seven observed calls beside phase usage claiming zero consumption and a complete zero estimate, although aggregate usage says unknown. With measured work in the same phase, the unchanged phase total likewise remains an exact measured-only number.

Why R2 is insufficient: A totals helper at the four named call sites does not reach this separately constructed consumer. The new event-only activity path makes the empty phase calculation directly reachable for Muse.

Smallest correction: Extend the same missing-evidence rule to phases containing the owned unmeasured activity, including their estimate completeness. Keep response counts and measured model rows intact. Define which unmeasured sessions belong to each totals partition: an exclusively owned Muse session makes attributed usage unknown, while an actually empty shared partition remains known zero; a jointly owned unmeasured session belongs in the shared gap. Do not blanket-mark every partition merely because some session in task scope has no responses, or assign an unmeasured session to a guessed phase.

Acceptance: Through task show --json and publish --dry-run --json, the Muse activity phase has unknown consumption and no complete zero estimate. A mixed measured/Muse phase exposes its measured subtotal with incomplete meaning. A measured-only phase, empty unrelated shared partition and genuine known-zero measured scope retain their current meaning; mixed counter semantics still omit combined raw buckets. Assert the values and completeness, not just a gap flag.

R2-2. Medium: preserve the new lower-bound meaning in existing CLI text

Location: Spec Report and Registration/Testing decisions; cli.py _fmt_section_total, task text rendering and session-list projection.

Trigger and effect: Add a measured session to the owned Muse task. The Spec deliberately leaves the measured numeric buckets unchanged and adds usage_status: lower_bound plus unmeasured_sessions. The ordinary task text renderer calls _fmt_section_total, which consults only unknown_counts, not either new field. It prints the measured subtotal as an exact total. The same problem reaches phase text after R2-1 is corrected. Separately, sessions list obtains scope_totals and projects only raw totals and existing unknown_counts into its rows, dropping the proposed new coverage fields.

Why R2 is insufficient: publish._fmt_tokens support does not update these independent CLI consumers. Existing NULL handling already supports fully unknown counters, but it does not recognize a newly introduced session-level lower-bound marker beside an integer.

Smallest correction: Include the affected CLI formatting/projection in the bounded consumer change, or provide a compatible representation that those consumers actually retain and interpret without changing what existing response-level unknown counts mean. Preserve exact measured totals and the existing mixed-semantics behavior elsewhere. This needs no new command or API redesign.

Acceptance: A measured/Muse task renders a lower bound through ordinary task show text as well as JSON/publication. Session list/show retain the new usage meaning where they expose scope_totals; measured-only known-zero controls still display exact zero. Inspect the rendered text, not only the presence of usage_status in a lower-level object.

R2-3. Medium: retain measured counts when an activity cell has partial family coverage

Location: Spec Report Activity and Publish bullets; report.py activity aggregation, publish.py phase activity rendering.

Trigger and effect: Put an owned OpenCode session with one recorded file change and an owned Muse session in the same unclassified phase. OpenCode declares file_change=True; Muse's proposed unsupported declaration is False. R2 marks the entire counter unavailable if any harness in the cell declares False, then instructs publication to print unavailable for that counter. The known file change disappears from the rendered summary. The same mechanism affects a recorded Claude skill invocation beside Codex, whose skill_invocation capability is explicitly False.

Why R2 is insufficient: One whole-cell unavailable marker conflates a wholly unsupported family with a measured subtotal plus an unsupported contribution. It repairs unsupported zero presentation by discarding existing positive evidence in mixed cells. Per-harness capability declarations already provide enough information to distinguish the two cases.

Smallest correction: Keep the measured count visible with partial/lower-bound coverage when some contributing native sessions support the family; render plain unavailable when no contributing session supports it. Base the capability on the native session harness, not the attribution importer's harness: Router task-turn rows use harness=router while pointing to a Codex/Claude/OpenCode/Grok native session, and Router's False declarations describe its own import, not missing tool coverage in that native log.

Acceptance: Public JSON and rendered body preserve the one measured OpenCode file change and one measured Claude invocation with partial meaning in the mixed cases; wholly unsupported Muse file changes remain unavailable; supported measured-zero cases remain exact. An existing Router-owned native task retains its native counts and capabilities, rather than inheriting Router's lack of tool import.

R1 disposition and bounded changes accepted

    • R1-1 cleared in design: Unioning attributed-response sessions with the exclusive whole-session set reaches the real event-only root without importing responses or auto-owning shared work. Result detail carrying catalog identity avoids the old mcp. prefix error. Keeping the old prefix fallback only for records without tool_source preserves existing harness behavior; Muse must always emit its validated enum, including unknown.
    • R1-2 partially cleared: Top-level NULL/unknown and measured-subtotal design is appropriate. Remaining required corrections are R2-1 through R2-3 above. Nullable raw buckets already exist in the public contract, so this does not inherently demand a new API or major version. Preserve by_semantics, response partition/reconciliation and known empty-partition behavior.
    • R1-3 cleared in design: The proposed NULL-source select is compatible with lookup.availability's existing no_source and unreadable eventless-session path. No fake source row or parent-source association is needed. Source-less Grok children also becoming ledger-only, and unowned Grok/Claude children making an owned parent's task incomplete, are justified consequences of the same native relationship evidence and are disclosed in R2. Keep child ownership separate from the link, and feed the added gap into the existing completeness, cost and snapshot paths.
    • R1-4 cleared in design: Whole-file reconstruction of complete lines on change plus callee-owned compare-before-update reconciliation resolves append-boundary joins, result enrichment and unchanged replay without saved join state. The terminal-or-committed rule correctly imports both actual child results with NULL status and measured committed size; terminal-only results have NULL size until later commitment. JSON-string args and UTF-8 measurement are now explicit. Preserve the existing default/update paths for other adapters and source-offset bookkeeping.
    • R1-5 cleared in design: Separate frame ids for run start/end avoid lifecycle natural-key collision, while turn_id=muse:<run_id> supports exact turn identity. Full kind=run dispatch excludes the twenty internal task starts. Consumed-variant version checking and silent unconsumed-kind skipping now have a concrete boundary.
    • Other bounded decisions accepted: New closed-enum and existing identifier privacy validators on calls/results are sufficient for the proposed detail keys; not bumping privacy version is reasonable because no existing stored value changes meaning. Exact strong Muse session mapping can reuse T3's current owner path without importing prompts or accepting projection-based identity. The existing lookup.show no-indexer result remains not_found. Minor capability versioning is consistent with existing nullable-counter contracts, subject to the compatibility checks above.

    Nonblocking implementation notes and limits

    1. upsert_session fills ordinary unknown metadata but does not update an existing row's source_id: that parameter is used only on INSERT. Parent-first and child-first imports can therefore differ in this one field. Availability can still converge through sources.session_id, which the proposed query already uses. Define the semantic equality asserted in the order test, or fill that provenance at its owner if identical source association is intended; this observation alone is not an availability blocker.
    2. Catalog/active-tool union is explicitly a session-level identity rule. The observed root has one catalog and one active-tool snapshot before its calls; there is no observed changing-catalog failure here. Do not silently turn that into a claim about per-call temporal configuration. The specified missing/conflicting context remains unknown; append/reorder tests should distinguish physical arrival order from native sequence. No temporal store or speculative architecture is requested.
    3. The child link's recorded log paths are relative. The proposed strategy can use discovered files and validated actual <parent>/subagent/<child>/ layout without following arbitrary paths from record text. Test stream/directory identity mismatch and safe traversal at that boundary if the implementation uses path metadata; no whole-history discovery is necessary.

No runtime CLI proof or test suite was run for this design-only review. The three required findings are source-walk consequences of the named strategy and existing callers, not claims of observed behavior from an implementation that does not exist. Future Muse versions, mutable temporal catalogs, unavailable child contents, usage counter semantics, live T3 rows and fleet installation remain unchecked. After parent adjudication and a passing revised design, the author supplies implementation, focused/full proof and the authorized scratch-ledger native checks; independent review must then examine the exact implementation HEAD. No GitHub commit status applies to this Spec verdict.

What: The Spec now answers all three accepted R2 findings (R3 candidate, body SHA-256 e311b048b9493052bd8b26df25ba6be035f420bc971bb5f095dd63a1cb232f9f); no code is written.
Why: R2 (comment 6277536510, report SHA-256 d99b8863…3976) showed phase totals, CLI text and mixed activity cells would still misstate missing evidence.
So what: The parent dispatches a fresh independent R3 design review; implementation waits for it.

Responses, with the consumer each one changes and the proof that falsifies it:

    • R2-1, phase usage and estimate. Consumer: report._phase_report (phase usage, estimated_cost) plus task_report attributed/shared_joint and scope_totals. Unmeasured means an existing session with no responses whose native harness declares model_usage=False (only Muse today), so existing empty sessions keep their rendering. Each one goes to the partition its responses would have taken, and only to phases its events are labeled into. Zero responses there → null buckets, usage_status: unknown, estimate not complete; measured responses there → numbers kept, lower_bound; mixed semantics keep by_semantics only. Proof: Muse-only phase has null usage and no complete total; Muse plus Codex phase keeps the measured subtotal as lower_bound; measured-only, empty unrelated shared, known-zero and mixed-semantics controls unchanged.
    • R2-2, CLI text and projections. Consumer: cli._fmt_section_total (task and phase lines) reads usage_status and unmeasured_sessions; sessions list projects usage_status; sessions show already emits scope_totals; unknown_counts keeps its response-level meaning. Proof: rendered task show text shows >=N (lower bound) and ; 1 unmeasured sessions; sessions list text shows total=unknown for Muse and exact values for measured controls.
    • R2-3, partial activity coverage. Consumer: _phase_report activity cells and the publish activity table. Capability is looked up per contributing session from sessions.harness, never task_turns.harness. All contributors unsupported → null plus activity_coverage unavailable; some → count kept plus partial. Proof: OpenCode file change and Claude skill invocation stay 1 (>=1 (partial)) beside Muse or Codex; a Muse-only file-change cell is unavailable; a Router-owned Codex session keeps Codex capabilities.
    • Nonblocking notes. Order-test equality excludes sessions.source_id and import timestamps (availability converges via sources.session_id). A child's parent comes only from its discovered <parent>/subagent/<child>/ location with a matching stream.id; a mismatch is recorded as identity_conflict; record-supplied log paths are never opened or stored. The catalog union is a session-level rule, and tests separate physical line order from sequence.

Requirements and who asked: User authority for #127 implementation; parent accepted R2-1 to R2-3.
Deleted: Blanket unknown for response-less sessions, a whole-cell unavailable marker, Router capabilities as native coverage, record-supplied child paths.
    Bottleneck: Fresh R3 design review.
    Checked myself: R2 report in full; _phase_report, _bucket_totals, _usage_totals, scope_totals, task_report, cli._fmt_section_total, task/phase text, sessions list/show, publish tables, price_scope, JsonlSource.finish, adapter CAPABILITIES at 8ffae39.

What: PASS: #127's current R3 Spec has no required design finding in the inspected scope.
Why: Its revised ownership, missing-usage, phase-cost and activity-coverage rules now reach the actual report, CLI and publication consumers without discarding measured evidence.
So what: The parent adjudicates this design verdict; implementation, independent exact-head code review, full tests and the authorized scratch-ledger proof remain outstanding.

Requirements and who asked: The user's R3 review brief requires native Muse call/result/read/skill evidence, catalog identity, explicit ownership, honest usage and coverage, privacy, and one reviewed PR. This advances Observer's Objective of native evidence across harnesses with visible gaps.
Deleted: No second store, logger, persisted join state, guessed usage, placeholder responses, source edits, child delegation, provider/session/browser launches, live database access, installation or deployment. No dependency on this review is added to Chromeria #423 or PR #560.
Bottleneck: Establishing whether the revised design contradicts existing owners and callers before the author starts implementation.
Checked myself: Full current Issue body and all five comments, both complete prior reports and their hashes, current instructions and complete supplied direction/preferences, Great Library README, connected glossaries, AgentsMD operations/software-design/review/verification/test-design references; pinned source contracts and the report, pricing, CLI, publish, lookup, database, ingest, privacy, adapter registration/capabilities and T3 paths; representative existing phase, publication, availability and helper tests; structural extraction of the exact retained root and two child logs. No transcript text, prompt, hook content or credential value is reproduced.

    Candidate identity and limits

    • Body SHA-256: e311b048b9493052bd8b26df25ba6be035f420bc971bb5f095dd63a1cb232f9f, independently matched on initial read and again at 2026-10-19 23:28:44 Europe/Warsaw. Five comments were present; the Issue's last update was 23:24:52 Warsaw. Read the author's R3 response in full.
    • Source base and HEAD: 8ffae39c099a5ce1df2db8835f79bf8f68da5960, branch feat/127-muse-native-evidence, clean; locally known origin/main is identical, divergence 0 0. Source was read with git show/git grep; no checkout, reset, pull, switch, source edit, commit or test run occurred. This is a Spec verdict, not an implementation verdict.
    • R1 report independently matched 18a3fe8afa31098825f7a822047d210d6d5a2ab3027395811de462da76843b43; R2 independently matched d99b8863183d8935873cd1bb8545a50ff2eb5ceb52e8170119dc2388d8983976. Their complete findings and the corresponding author responses were inspected, not only the response bullet counts.
    • Actual reviewer runtime: Codex harness, gpt-6.1-sol, high reasoning effort, through T3 Code. No additional agent or provider was launched. This establishes independent review from the author, not model diversity.

    Prior finding dispositions

    1. R1-1 cleared in design: _phase_report currently discovers activity from attributed response sessions (report.py:340). The proposed union with the exclusive whole-session set supplied at report.py:512 reaches the response-less root while preserving shared-session exclusion. Catalog-derived tool_source on the result replaces the prefix assumption for Muse, including explicit unknown; legacy records without the field retain their old behavior.
    2. R1-2 cleared in design, including the three R2 refinements below: NULL buckets and a session-level usage status distinguish no measurement from zero. Measured model rows remain measurements of their response subset. Unsupported activity is unavailable, while mixed cells preserve their measured subtotal. Usage import stays deferred because output/reasoning semantics are unverified.
    3. R1-3 cleared in design: _backing_without_events can supply a NULL-source row to the existing no_source/eventless-unreadable path (lookup.py:529, :644, :670). No parent source is borrowed. Explicit parent links add unowned children to the existing gap, cost, completeness and snapshot paths, independently of task ownership. The disclosed effect on existing Grok/Claude tasks is an honest consequence of that same evidence rule.
    4. R1-4 cleared in design: Whole-file reconstruction of complete lines on each changed file recovers call, terminal, committed-result and catalog context across append boundaries. Callee-owned compare-before-update reconciliation fills NULL evidence on the same natural key and preserves the default/update behavior of other adapters (ingest.py:310). JSON-string arguments, UTF-8 result sizes and native sequence versus structural source ordinals are explicit. Terminal-only and committed-only results remain distinguishable without invented status or size.
    5. R1-5 cleared in design: Run start/end use separate frame ids under the event natural key (db.py:268), while sharing the native run turn id. Full payload.kind=run dispatch excludes internal task starts. Unsupported consumed variants are quarantined; unconsumed variants are deliberately skipped.
    6. R2-1 cleared in design: Marking reaches each event-bearing attributed phase's independently constructed usage and estimated_cost (report.py:354), as well as task partitions and scope_totals. Only existing response-less sessions whose native harness explicitly declares model_usage=False are unmeasured. Exclusive attribution, actual shared/conflicting ownership and scope are distinguished; empty unrelated partitions remain known zero. Phase labels come from the existing event-label decision, without assigning missing usage to an invented phase. The estimate loses completeness and its total while retaining any priced subtotal. Mixed semantics retain by_semantics without a raw combined bucket.
    7. R2-2 cleared in design: The Spec names the real _fmt_section_total caller used by task and phase text (cli.py:58, :147, :184) and requires it to render lower bounds and the unmeasured-session count. Session-list projection (cli.py:1410) retains the new status; the NULL Muse total reaches _fmt_session_total as unknown. Session show already returns the complete usage object (cli.py:1374). Publication retains the report objects and adds an explicit unknown row for the affected phase rather than fabricating a model response.
    8. R2-3 cleared in design: Activity contributor identity comes from the event's native sessions.harness, not Router task-turn metadata. For each counter, all unsupported contributors yield NULL/unavailable; mixed contributors retain the count with partial coverage; supported contributors retain exact measured zeros. The publish activity renderer (publish.py:558) and CLI phase text are explicitly in scope to preserve this meaning. Existing capability declarations support the OpenCode-file-change, Claude/Codex-skill and Router-owned-Codex controls.

    Owner/caller and proof assessment

The requested outcome is one native Muse adapter whose evidence remains inspectable through existing task and publication surfaces. The smallest surviving shape is the proposed adapter plus the named bounded changes at the existing owners; no supported contradiction requires a new architecture.

    • Common path: scoped Muse sync, exclusive root assignment, task JSON/text and dry-run publication. The adapter emits native events without responses; the report selects the owned session, labels its activity and marks attributed/scope/phase usage unknown. Existing task-level missing-usage handling clears the complete cost total, and the new phase path does the same for the independently built phase estimate. publish.summarize forwards those phases and usage (publish.py:129, :184); the renderer's unknown row makes the missing contribution visible beside measured model rows.
    • Failure path: terminal failure, partial JSONL tail, missing child source and invalid consumed schema. Their specified outcomes are error status, deferred incomplete line, ledger-only child and closed import-error category respectively. No raw error reason, result text or record-supplied child path needs to enter storage or publication.
    • Awkward path: measured and Muse work together, heterogeneous counter semantics, shared ownership, child-first import and committed result without effects. The rules preserve measured response arithmetic, distinguish actual ownership partitions, preserve partial activity counts, and converge child availability through sources.session_id even when insert-only sessions.source_id differs. Session-level catalog/active-tool union makes no per-call temporal claim. The two real children justify the committed-result-with-NULL-status case directly.
    • Integration/privacy: T3's strong native-session reference can enter the existing exact-native-id branch (adapters/t3.py:1167); no prompt match or child auto-binding is added. CLI's existing T3 refresh after native imports (cli.py:1028) remains applicable. The new detail keys pass through central allowlists and validators. No existing stored privacy value changes meaning, so the proposed absence of a privacy-version bump is consistent with that boundary. Minor capability versioning is appropriate to the specified compatible extension, subject to implementation preserving those contracts.
    • Meaningful acceptance: The planned public CLI tests distinguish the actual prior failures from mere presence of a gap flag: numeric NULL versus zero, measured lower bound versus exact total, phase cost total versus incomplete estimate, partial count versus suppressed count, and direct missing-child availability. Append/reorder comparison also needs its literal expected counts/status/identity/UTF-8-size assertions; equality between two imports alone would not establish correctness. Those assertions and known-zero controls are already required by the Spec. Full regression checks remain required for the shared consumers.

Independent structural extraction matched the retained root hash 3725254fc2c6726d5eeb4684f2d8fbfa4af78cdfae05850cf045f797ba402539: 362 complete lines, 7 calls, 7 committed results, 7 started and 7 terminal effects, with 6 completed and 1 failed; 5 file-read calls, 1 skill call, 1 catalog-proven t3-code/web_read, 3,026 committed UTF-8 bytes, 1 run start/end, 7 child links with 2 supplied paths. The two retained child hashes match R2 (8ff6a266…3ce18, b0c2e998…eca208); each has one call/result and no effects or catalog. These are native structural observations, not Observer runtime proof or a new claim about absent child contents.

    Nonblocking notes and remaining gates

No required finding remains. The stale Blockers line naming R2 is editorial; it does not reopen an architecture decision or prevent implementation after parent adjudication.

No implementation, full suite or scratch-ledger CLI proof exists in this review. The author must implement the current rules and demonstrate the required public seams, then the parent obtains independent exact-head implementation review, full tests and the authorized real-root/two-child scratch proof in the requested order. Future Muse versions, missing child contents, native usage-counter semantics, live T3 rows, fleet installation and arbitrary external JSON consumers remain unverified. No GitHub commit status was posted for this design-only review, and this verdict neither authorizes merge/install/deploy nor blocks Chromeria #423/PR #560.

What: Implementation PR #141 is open at head 5f6b7b4d9983814788c870c08cba668b30775060 (base 8ffae39, tree 58614b5b, v1.5.0); full local proof and CI proof pass.
Why: It implements the R3-approved Spec; the new tests fail on the base for the intended reasons.
So what: The parent dispatches independent exact-head implementation review; the real root plus two-child scratch-ledger proof waits for that review. #127 stays open until then.

Requirements and who asked: User authority for #127 implementation and one reviewed PR; no merge/install/deploy.
Deleted: Usage import, new tables, child auto-binding, record-supplied child paths.
    Bottleneck: Independent implementation review.
Checked myself: python3 -m unittest discover -s tests 951 OK on the head; compile and --version 1.5.0; fail-before on exported base (18 failures, 3 errors); versionctl release-check OK; CI run 39330955889 pass. Details in #141.

What: The real native proof passed on exact head 8288a92d970af2e09e4341ba4cf012b479f9a14c (tree 29ff58725d7095306a7fdcd45718647208191845, base 8ffae39, v1.5.0): the preserved Muse root and its two child logs import with every required count, both import orders agree, and re-sync writes nothing.
Why: The #127 Spec admits this proof only after an independent implementation review passes; R5 passed (review/independent success, id 56741408548, by lukemaj) and the parent admitted the proof.
So what: #141 is ready for the human's merge decision; nothing is merged, installed or deployed. #127 stays open until the merge.

Observed against required (private scratch on SSD, isolated HOME, explicit --db, two fresh ledgers; inputs read-only, hashes 3725254f…2539, 8ff6a266…3ce18, b0c2e998…eca208 checked before and after):

    • Root: 7 tool_call, 7 tool_result (6 ok, 1 error), 5 read (4 ok, 1 error), 1 skill_invoke, 1 turn_started, 1 turn_ended, 7 subagent_spawned; 0 responses, 0 import errors.
    • MCP: exactly one, call_01a155e5686875e09665bbf8bc5dadaa, tool_source mcp, t3-code/web_read, ok, 3,026 bytes; the other 6 calls builtin.
    • Children: present 2 available with 1 call and 1 result each (status NULL, size 26); absent 5 ledger_only (no_source) in machine and direct queries.
    • Scratch-only root ownership: attributed, scope and phase buckets null, usage_status unknown; empty shared exact 0; phase estimate not complete; file changes unavailable; 7 unbound child sessions; cost unknown; text total=unknown; 1 unmeasured sessions; publication shows the unmeasured row and no $0.00.
    • Order parity: ledgers equal on 37 events, 8 sessions, 3 turns and 0 errors, excluding insert-only sessions.source_id and import times; every re-sync unchanged=1, 0 inserted, 0 updated.
    • Isolation: an audit hook on the real agent_observer entry point shows the only native files opened were the three preserved copies; no live Muse session, ~/.t3 state or Observer ledger was opened. Worktree clean at the head before and after; no source change.

Full table: #141 body. Private command log, outputs, ledgers and SHA-256 manifest stay outside Git.

Requirements and who asked: #127 Spec required proof, admitted by the parent after R5 PASS.
Deleted: Whole-history sync, T3 or live-ledger reads, any source change.
Bottleneck: Human merge decision on #141.
Checked myself: All counts read from the scratch ledgers and CLI outputs; input hashes before and after; opened-path audit; git state.

What: Parent acceptance is complete for #127 / PR #141 on exact8288a92d970af2e09e4341ba4cf012b479f9a14c; independent source review, complete CI and real native proof pass.
Why: The actual saved Muse root plus its two child logs produce the required counts, privacy and missing-evidence behavior, without reading live native history or using the installed ledger.
So what: This separate Observer PR is ready for the human merge decision; no Observer merge, install, deployment or fleet action is authorized or performed, and #127 stays OPEN until merge.

Parent independently inspected the native driver and analyzer, all30 command exit records, actual scratch databases opened read-only, CLI task/publication JSON and the97-entry SHA256 manifest (97match/0mismatch). Both import orders contain37events/8sessions/3turns/0importerrors/0responses. Root:7toolcalls/7results(6ok1error),5reads,1skill,9lifecycleevents(1start/1end/7childlinks). Exactlyone catalog MCP result is t3-code/web_read, statusok,3026UTF8bytes; other6callsbuiltin. Explicit task attribution/scope/phase usage buckets areNULL/unknown, emptysharedpart exact0, phase estimate incomplete, filechangesNULL/unavailable,7unboundchildren, publicationcostunknown/no$0.00. Two existing childlogs areavailable, five absentlogs ledger_only/no_source. Re-sync inserted/updated0; semantic order comparisons match as approved.

The command audit has22 exits0,7 expected availability exits3 for partial/missing evidence, and one initial module --version exit2 because that form is unsupported; the separate supported bin/agent-observer --version output is1.5.0. No native-import command failed. Audit-path matches under .t3/worktrees refer to candidate Python source/modules, not live .t3/userdata; no native paths outside the3preserved copies were opened. The private audit/manifest is retained outside Git, and no raw native text, prompts, arguments or account values are published.

Canonical source review R5 PASS0required0optional: #141 (comment) , authenticated exact-head review/independent success56741408548. Complete same-tree CI963testsPASS, run39338459424. Real-proof canonical handoff: #127 (comment) . Version1.5.0; current base8ffae39c099a5ce1df2db8835f79bf8f68da5960/tree29ff58725d7095306a7fdcd45718647208191845. Source and proof stay frozen. Remaining known limits: native usage-counter semantics unimported; only Muse1.4.11 observed; five absent child contentsunknown; disclosed shared missing-child completeness behavior.

Cost comment6279336221 is a measured lower bound from the existing ledger, not complete billing. This separate Observer outcome is not covered by the prior Chromeria#560 merge approval. Chromeria source is already merged and fleet ownership belongs to the daily coordinator; no competing rollout starts here.

Requirements and who asked: User requested Muse support follow-up with an assigned agent; accepted Spec requires independent source review and bounded actual-native proof before readiness.
Deleted: Synthetic-only acceptance, zeroes for unmeasured usage, whole-history import and inferred Observer merge/install authority.
Bottleneck: Human approval to merge this separate ready PR.
Checked myself: Exact current source/CI/review, full native driver/outputs,97artifacthashes, read-only actual two-ledger counts, report meaning, expected nonzero exits and source-read isolation.
