FAQ
Yes. Stasis writes to the same SMC keys that Apple's own battery management uses. If Stasis ever quits or crashes, the privileged helper daemon automatically resets all SMC keys to their defaults, so your MacBook reverts to normal charging behavior.
Charge management requires a privileged helper daemon that runs as root. macOS requires you to explicitly approve background daemons in System Settings → Login Items. This is a one-time step.
Sleep: Yes. The SMC is powered during sleep, so charge inhibit settings persist. If you also enable Sleep Prevention, Stasis will keep the Mac awake until the limit is reached.
Restart: No. The helper daemon resets SMC keys when it stops. After a restart, Stasis restores your settings once it launches again. If you have Launch at Login enabled, this happens automatically.
If you enabled "Use hardware percentage" in Settings → Advanced, Stasis displays the raw firmware value, which is typically 2–7% lower than the macOS-calibrated percentage. This is expected. See Hardware Battery Percentage.
No. Stasis is Apple Silicon only.
No. Power metrics are only polled while the menu is open. All other logic is event-driven through IOKit notifications, so the app has near-zero resource usage when the menu is closed.
MagSafe LED Control requires a MacBook with a MagSafe 3 connector and the corresponding SMC key (ACLC). If your MacBook doesn't have this key, the option won't appear in settings.
No, this is expected. Sailing Mode doesn't actively discharge the battery — it just prevents micro-charging. Since the adapter provides power to the system, the battery barely loses charge. Sailing Mode only kicks in if the battery drifts below the resume threshold, which can take hours or longer.
