Problem or use case

When opening a project and starting a new chat, the workspace defaults to just the chat panel — no files explorer or terminal open. Every new chat requires manually reopening these panels, which adds friction when they're needed for nearly every session.

Proposed solution

Add a global user setting (e.g. in Preferences) that lets users define a default panel layout applied to every new project chat — e.g. toggles for "always open files panel" and "always open terminal," so the workspace opens the way the user actually works instead of a bare chat every time.

Why this matters

Reduces repetitive manual setup on every new chat, especially for users who almost always need the files panel and terminal visible when working in a project.

Smallest useful scope

A single global default (not per-project) for "open files panel on new chat" and "open terminal on new chat," applied at chat creation.

Alternatives considered

Manually reopening files/terminal each time — works but is repetitive.
