Summary

Extends manual_runs/scripts/vllm/import_manual_runs_json_v2.py to generate per-turn breakdown rows for multi-turn benchmarks, matching what the Forge pipeline (forge PR #215) produces automatically.

Changes

import_manual_runs_json_v2.py

  • Add _percentile(), _median(), _mean(), _sorted_field() helpers — same implementation as Forge PR #215 _turn_metric_values()
  • Add extract_per_turn_rows(benchmark, base_row) — reads requests.successful[].turn_index from the guidellm JSON and emits one per-turn row per turn per concurrency level with full TTFT/ITL/TPOT/latency/throughput stats
  • Add turn_index to fieldnames export list (was in the row dict but dropped by combined_df[fieldnames])
  • Single-turn guard: len(all_turns) <= 1 → no per-turn rows emitted (matches Forge PR #215)

README.md — updated to document 53 columns, turn_index placement, and per-turn row behaviour

Test results

Multi-turn JSON (3 turns × 2 concurrency levels):

Processed benchmark 1/2 (streams=1, 3 per-turn rows)
Processed benchmark 2/2 (streams=10, 3 per-turn rows)
Total rows: 8 — 2 aggregate + 6 per-turn ✅
turn_index values: ['', '0.0', '1.0', '2.0']
TTFT grows across turns (70ms → 78ms → 86ms) as expected

Standard JSON (no per-turn data, 3 concurrency levels):

Processed benchmark 1/3 (streams=1)
Processed benchmark 2/3 (streams=50)
Processed benchmark 3/3 (streams=100)
Total rows: 3 — aggregate only, no per-turn rows ✅
Works identically to before

Staging companion

#106 — same changes targeting staging.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Multi-turn benchmark exports now include aggregate results and, when turn data is available, separate results for each turn and concurrency level.
    • CSV exports can include optional MLflow run and experiment IDs.

Add turn_index as empty string for aggregate rows so manually-imported
CSVs are schema-compatible with the dashboard's per-turn logic (PR openshift-psap#101).
Per-turn rows (turn_index=0/1/2) are generated by the Forge pipeline
when request-level turn data is preserved in the benchmark JSON.

Update README: 52 → 53 columns, add turn_index to column table (openshift-psap#7),
clarify that manual import produces aggregate rows only.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The vLLM importer now creates per-turn rows when requests contain multiple valid turn indices. It adds optional MLflow run and experiment identifiers to output rows. The CSV schema and README document the new fields and 55-column output.

Changes

Manual import output

Layer / File(s) Summary
Extract per-turn metrics
manual_runs/scripts/vllm/import_manual_runs_json_v2.py
The importer groups requests by valid numeric turn index. When multiple distinct indices exist, each per-turn row includes request counts and calculated latency, token, and throughput statistics.
Integrate rows into CSV output
manual_runs/scripts/vllm/import_manual_runs_json_v2.py, manual_runs/scripts/vllm/README.md
The parser appends per-turn rows beside aggregate rows, which use an empty turn_index value. The CSV schema and README document turn_index and the 55-column output.
Add MLflow identifiers
manual_runs/scripts/vllm/import_manual_runs_json_v2.py, manual_runs/scripts/vllm/README.md
The CLI accepts optional run and experiment identifiers and stamps them onto every row when parsed data is nonempty. The CSV schema and README document both fields.

Row numbering was corrupted by the previous renumber script — TP and
measured concurrency both landed at row 9. Fix: turn_index=7, TP=8,
measured concurrency=9, continuing sequentially to request_type=53.

The script emits turn_index right before turns in the output dict.
The README should reflect actual output order, not the RHAIIS schema
field position (which pandas aligns by name on concat anyway).

turn_index: openshift-psap#49, turns: openshift-psap#50, prefix_tokens: openshift-psap#51, prefix_count: openshift-psap#52,
request_type: openshift-psap#53.

The turn_index key was added to the result dict but missing from the
fieldnames list passed to combined_df[fieldnames], so pandas silently
dropped it. CSV output now has 53 columns as the README states.

…ndex data

When the guidellm JSON contains requests.successful with turn_index fields
(multi-turn benchmarks), the script now emits:
  - one aggregate row per concurrency level (turn_index = empty, unchanged)
  - one per-turn row per turn per concurrency level (turn_index = 0, 1, 2, …)

Per-turn rows carry the same metadata as the aggregate row plus per-turn
stats: TTFT/ITL/TPOT median+p95+p99+p1+p999+mean, request latency, output
throughput, token counts. Benchmarks without turn_index data are unaffected.

Add _percentile() helper and extract_per_turn_rows() function.
Update README to clarify that per-turn rows are now emitted automatically.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
- _percentile(): use same k/f/c linear interpolation as Forge
- Add _median(), _mean(), _sorted_field() helpers matching Forge's
  _turn_metric_values() helpers exactly
- Add len(all_turns) <= 1 guard: skip per-turn extraction for single-turn
runs (matches Forge PR #215 behavior)
- Replace _percentile(50) calls with _median() for correctness

Correct per-turn token p99 and RPS fields.

prompt_token_count_p99 and output_token_count_p99 retain aggregate values. Compute them from prompt_toks and out_toks for each turn. measured concurrency is run-level context and should remain. measured rps is not computed per turn, so set it to None.

Exclude per-turn rows from aggregate dashboard views.

The importer appends one aggregate row and one row per turn to consolidated_dashboard.csv. The dashboard loads all rows without filtering turn_index.

Performance Trends sums request counts and averages metrics across these rows. Comparison views also average rows by concurrency. A multi-turn run can therefore be counted once as an aggregate and once for each turn.

Filter rows with a populated turn_index before aggregate views consume the data. Apply the same rule to the RHAIIS comparison loader, or explicitly select aggregate rows in each affected view.

Update the dashboard data-loading path around `extract_per_turn_rows` so
aggregate views exclude rows with a populated `turn_index`; apply the same
filtering to the RHAIIS comparison loader, or explicitly select aggregate rows
in each affected view.

> **Note:** `turns`, `prefix_tokens`, `prefix_count`, and `request_type` are auto-detected from the guidellm JSON. For multi-turn benchmarks, the script emits one aggregate row per concurrency level (`turn_index` = empty) **plus** one per-turn row per turn per concurrency level (`turn_index` = 0, 1, 2, …) when `requests.successful` contains `turn_index` data. Non-multi-turn benchmarks emit aggregate rows only.

The README rule for per-turn rows does not match the code.

extract_per_turn_rows reads turn indices from both requests.successful and requests.errored. It emits per-turn rows only when it finds at least two distinct valid turn indices. Update the note to say this.

Proposed fix
-... when `requests.successful` contains `turn_index` data. Non-multi-turn benchmarks emit aggregate rows only.
+... when `requests.successful`/`requests.errored` contain at least two distinct numeric `turn_index` values. Other benchmarks emit aggregate rows only.

Update the README note near `extract_per_turn_rows` to state that per-turn rows
are emitted when `requests.successful` or `requests.errored` contains at least
two distinct valid turn indices; otherwise, only aggregate rows are emitted.

…ment-id flags

When provided, these values are stamped on every output row and included
in the fieldnames list so the dashboard's Filtered Data table renders
a clickable MLflow artifact link (added to the schema in PR openshift-psap#83).

Both flags are optional and default to empty string — no breaking change.
