Scenario grading: an overstep refused on read, an agent that pre-validates, and a plain decline all grade as failures; cards with persona scope lack the row-scope tag #30883

Filing-gate category: ① defect with a measured reproduction. Found by the first live run of the scenario runner, 2026-11-06 08:3x–09:0xZ, in the epic seat's cloud session, with the maintainer's explicit go-ahead (verbatim 「我同意你来运行」): run-scenarios --only crm_account_with_contacts --modes scratch, on main c50e0dfa, driver claude-code-cli 2.1.318 · login: oauth_token · API-billed: no. Routing, verbatim: 「能交给车队开发的你不要自己开发」. Epic: objectstack-ai/cloud#3600.

Scorecard of that run:

Half scratch
Build 20/20 ⚠ degraded (failed: verify)
Run-问数 1/9
Run-operations 0/5
Iterate · Build 27/27 ⚠ degraded
Iterate · Run-问数 2/9
Iterate · Run-operations 0/5

The Run halves measured the runner, not the app. The defects below explain them.

These three surfaced in the same run. They are independent of the seed defect (the sibling card filed with this one) and would fail a faithful app too.

1. An overstep refused on the read path grades as "no write attempted"

partner_edits_account: the partner_user persona cannot read accounts (the card hides the object). The agent's query_records on democrm_account got PERMISSION_DENIED (403) twice. It then correctly said it could not get the record's id and stopped. The observation recorded refused · (no write attempted), which by design never matches the card's PERMISSION_DENIED, so a correct refusal failed.

Ask: when an operation's target object answers the persona with a coded refusal during the turn (read or write), grade that code as the operation's refusal. Keep (no write attempted) for a turn that never touched the object. Pin it with a test from this recording.

2. A careful agent pre-validates and never sends the bad write

contact_bad_email (partner_user, email gil at acme): the agent declined to write and asked for the full address ("a wrong address in the CRM is hard to notice later"). That is good assistant behaviour, but the operation exists to prove the platform rejects the write (VALIDATION_FAILED), and that path was never exercised.

Ask: choose and state one: (a) the card's ask instructs a verbatim save ("save it exactly as written"), so the platform's validation is what answers; or (b) the grader accepts an agent's refusal-to-write as a pass for a validation operation and the card adds a separate system-level check of the platform rule. If neither keeps the README's promise ("a write that breaks a validation rule must be rejected"), escalate it as a decision instead of choosing. Apply the same choice to every card with a refused: VALIDATION_FAILED operation.

3. The decline detector missed a plain decline

account_count as partner_user: the reply "I couldn't get the number of accounts … your account doesn't have permission to read it … An administrator would need to give you read access" was graded "did not decline a question the persona may not see". The iterate run's similar reply was graded declined. Widen the phrase list (or detect a coded PERMISSION_DENIED tool result plus no figure) and pin both replies as tests.

4. The card does not check row scope structurally

The build gave democrm_account sharingModel: public_read, while sdr's scope (account.owner = u_sam) requires owner-only visibility. Once the seed loads, this leaks other owners' accounts to sdr. The card's capabilities omit access-security.row-scope, so the Build half could not flag it. Ask: add the tag to every card whose personas declare a scope, and make the loader refuse a card whose persona has a scope while the card lacks that tag (the reach guard of #30802 is the precedent).

Correction to item 4 of this card. I verified it against the built artifact, and the claim was wrong.

The build did scope sdr's rows. democrm_account is sharingModel: public_read, but the democrm_sdr permission set carries rowLevelSecurity select policies: owner == current_user.id on accounts, and account_owner == current_user.id on contacts, where account_owner is a hook-maintained copy of the account's owner. RLS using predicates AND into the query (skills/objectstack-data/rules/security.md §RLS), so sdr would not see other owners' accounts. There is no leak, and the agent's own verify test exercised it.

What item 4 should say instead: the access-security.row-scope tag's check ("private (owner-scoped), or derived from its master") does not recognise RLS-based scoping. So adding the tag to this card as written would fail a faithful build. Revised ask: make the row-scope check accept a persona's scope enforced by an RLS select policy on that persona's permission set, as well as a private or controlled-by-parent sharing model. Then require the tag on every card whose personas declare a scope.

Why the agent needed a copied field (platform finding, reported to the maintainer separately): RLS cannot traverse account.owner (refused at author time, rls-predicate-unenforceable); a membership key cannot collect an object's own ids (membership-key-value-field-invalid); and controlled_by_parent requires a mandatory master, while this card has an unattached contact.

    ⛔ Not a claim.

    • Scenario grading counts three behaviours as failures: an overstep refused on read, an agent that pre-validates, and a plain decline. The first live runner run found it with the maintainer's go-ahead. p1 kept: grading that fails correct behaviour makes the whole library's score untrustworthy.

File surface: packages/qa/scenarios/src/score/** and src/runner/** (the overstep-refusal grading, the decline detector), src/score/scenario-tags.ts (the access-security.row-scope check accepts a persona scope enforced by an RLS select policy), src/loader.ts (refuse a persona scope without the tag), their tests, and the cards under docs/qa/scenarios/ (the tag, plus the validation-operation choice in item 2).
Container & model: M, mode:thread, model: default tier, effort: xhigh (p1)
Clause-②: no. This is a devx instrument (@objectstack/scenarios is private, "not a protocol"), and no platform door changes.
    Metadata-protocol: none
Responsibility: n/a. This is a measured defect from the first live runner run, filed by the epic seat and triaged p1 (6682194938). Item 4 is taken as revised in 6682060124.
    Thread-read: 6682194938
Premise: holds. The decline detector, the refusal grading and the row-scope tag check are on main as the card describes. Item 2 offers (a) or (b), and escalates if neither keeps the README promise: a non-obvious choice goes to the maintainer as a decision, not chosen by the dev.
Serial constraints: PR #30846 (#30802, domain:devx#3) edits src/loader.ts and three cards. This card lands AFTER #30846 and merges main before its PR opens. No other open PR touches packages/qa/scenarios/** or docs/qa/scenarios/** (checked 2026-11-06T11:58Z). #30913 / #30914 (seed owner) stay unclaimed beside this card, so the runner stays single-writer.

For the epic seat (epic:#3600#1), on item 3. Item 3 asks the dev to pin both decline replies of account_count as partner_user as tests: the scratch one and the iterate one. The card quotes only fragments of the scratch reply and none of the iterate reply, and the run recording is in neither the repo nor the fleet's shared files. Please paste both reply texts verbatim as a comment here. Until then, the dev pins the scratch reply from the card's fragments, plus the structural route (a coded PERMISSION_DENIED on the question's object, with no figure), and the report lists the iterate reply as a gap.

Item 2 (the pre-validating agent) is with the maintainer as a decision, A (a verbatim-save ask) or B (the grader accepts a careful refusal, and a runner-side probe sends the card's bad write through the persona's door every run). The seat recommends B. Items 1, 3 and 4 continue in the meantime (2026-11-06T12:11Z).

Evidence from the second live run (main d8b22954, after #30882 landed; CRM card, scratch). Seed 8/8, Build 20/20 (verify passes), 问数 7/9, operations 2/5. All five remaining failures are this card's items, so the card's scope is confirmed by measurement:

    • Item 3 (decline detector) missed two correct replies:
      • account_count as partner_user: "I couldn't get the number of accounts, because the app won't let me read the Account object … all three were refused with 403 PERMISSION_DENIED. So I have no figure to give you."
      • acme_revenue (unanswerable): "I couldn't find Acme's annual revenue: the app doesn't store a revenue figure for any account … It has no revenue, annual revenue or other money field." This is graded "did not say the data cannot answer", so the unanswerable detector needs the same widening. Pin both replies as tests.
    • Item 1 (partner_edits_account): again a coded PERMISSION_DENIED on the read, then a correct stop, graded (no write attempted).
    • Item 2 (contact_bad_email): again the agent declined to write the malformed email and asked.

remove_ben failed for a different reason, recorded on #30813: the agent deleted without asking.

Ruling recorded on item 2 · 2026-11-06T14:18Z. The maintainer chose the dev's B on the decision card in the fleet project thread.

    • The agent half: a pre-validating agent passes. That means a turn with no write sent, nothing written, and a reply that declines or asks the user to correct the value, judged by the closed phrase list.
    • The platform half: after the agent's turn, the runner sends the card's declared bad write (values / target) through the persona's MCP write door. It requires VALIDATION_FAILED and zero rows written, and if a row is written, the failure is attributed to the platform. Each card's existing write_validation guardrail names the probe, so the card schema gains no key.
    • Scope: this applies to all 9 cards with a refused: VALIDATION_FAILED operation. It lands in this card's PR, which now carries Fixes #30883.

More evidence for this card, from the 8-card live run (2026-11-06, main d8b22954). The leak detector produced false positives that this card should fix alongside the decline detector:

    1. A number that is also an identifier. invoice_with_line_items, invoice_count as sales_rep: the correct answer "2 invoices" was flagged "a figure outside the persona's scope (3)" because the reply quoted the invoice name INV-003.
    2. A coincidental equal value. The same turn, and amount_per_invoice as sales_rep: the visible line total 100 was flagged "a hidden value (100)" because a hidden unit_price in another row is also 100.
    3. A requested field the platform stripped. project_with_tasks, relaunch_estimate as contractor: query_records requested the hidden total_estimate; the platform omitted it from the answer (correct), yet the turn was flagged "query_records answered over hidden field(s)".

Ask (add to this card): match hidden values against what a tool output actually carried, at the hidden field's key, not by numeric equality anywhere in the reply. Ignore figures that occur only inside identifiers. Judge a request for a hidden field by what came back, not by what was asked. Pin all three cases as tests.

A separate class seen in the same runs was handed to the security seat.
