What changed

  • Update lint and test tooling dependencies, and run the suite with Vitest.
  • Fix the reported Ultracite and TypeScript issues across source, scripts, and tests.
  • Add a patch changeset covering the tooling updates and fixes.
  • Include the editor and hook configuration changes already present in the local worktree.

Verification

  • bun run check
  • bun run typecheck
  • bun run test (51 tests passed)

Summary by cubic

Migrates the test suite from bun:test to Vitest and fixes the reported Ultracite and TypeScript diagnostics across source, scripts, and tests.

  • The test script now builds the package before running Vitest, which resolves the @ alias through vitest.config.ts.
  • Updates lint and tooling dependencies (ultracite, oxlint, lefthook, effect, @types/bun) and extends oxlint with Vitest, jsdoc, and tsdoc plugins.
  • Adds a regression test for consumeResetCredit rejecting positional string arguments.
  • Configures editor TypeScript paths and formatter defaults in .vscode and .zed.

Written for commit cea9195. Summary will update on new commits.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Improved validation for authentication data, URLs, options, credit IDs, and API responses.
    • Prevented invalid or non-JSON data from being accepted during file and network operations.
    • Corrected reset-credit requests so optional credit details are sent only when provided.
    • Improved error handling for malformed package and release configuration.
  • Reliability

    • Expanded automated coverage for CLI commands, usage data, reset credits, retries, and failure scenarios.
    • Updated formatting and linting checks to provide broader, more consistent validation.

The PR migrates the test suite to Vitest and updates lint and editor tooling. It adds JSON and input validation in the Codex client, CLI, and release scripts. It also updates schema and TypeScript declarations and expands code documentation.

Changes: Codex Usage Validation and Tooling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Test and lint tooling
.changeset/26b56a05.md, .vscode/settings.json, .zed/settings.json, package.json, vitest.config.ts, oxlint.config.ts, lefthook.yml
The test script now builds and runs Vitest. Lint, formatter, editor, and changeset settings are updated.
Client contracts and data validation
src/codex/*, src/usage/*, src/index.ts, src/errors/index.ts, __tests__/client*, __tests__/format.test.ts, __tests__/normalize.test.ts, __tests__/schemas.test.ts
The client validates parsed JSON, and consumeResetCredit omits an empty credit ID. Schema and type declarations are updated. Tests cover response shapes, reset requests, usage formatting, and normalization.
CLI input and request handling
src/cli.ts, src/package-metadata.ts, __tests__/cli.test.ts, __tests__/index.test.ts
The CLI adds explicit checks for option values and credit IDs. Tests validate CLI dispatch, reset requests, error output, and the built CLI.
Release and changeset script validation
scripts/add-changeset.ts, scripts/publish.ts, __tests__/release.test.ts
The changeset script validates package data and filesystem errors. The publish script validates release metadata and environment values. Release tests use Vitest.

An unusually deeply nested usage response can be rejected despite being valid JSON. This is a narrow, fixable edge case rather than a broad obstacle to merging.

A rabbit checks each JSON leaf,

1-28: 🎯 Functional Correctness

Do not require a separate TypeScript test file.

Vitest collects .test.js files by default. Vite 8.3.4 also resolves the explicit .js import to the matching .ts file when the .js file is absent. The test is therefore collected and can resolve ../src/codex/client.js to src/codex/client.ts.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Move the isObject JSDoc block onto isObject.

The comment says "Returns whether value is a non-null, non-array object." It is placed above type JsonObject instead of above isObject. The comment's @param and @returns tags therefore describe a type alias. isObject has no documentation.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Remove the client-side recursive JSON guard.

JSON.parse accepts the response before isJsonValue runs. CodexUsagePayloadSchema uses Schema.Struct, which ignores unknown fields. A deeply nested unknown field can therefore be valid for the usage schema but still cause the client-side guard to throw. Effect.try converts that throw into CodexParseError, so the client rejects a valid usage response.

Remove the guard and its now-unused helper in src/codex/client.ts. Leave src/codex/auth.ts unchanged.
