docs: a Hermes gateway runs per Hermes home, so per seat with the example launcher - #2097
What a person gets: the Hermes example says what actually happens: each seat gets its own Hermes gateway. It no longer says one per machine.
What changed: the preset reference and config.yaml.example now say Hermes runs tool commands in its gateway, one per Hermes home, so one per seat with the example launcher. A two-seat run with that launcher showed two separate gateways, homes and control sockets, and stopping one seat left the other's processes running.
Cost: docs +5/−2 in 2 files. No code.
What ran: the docs guard and the Hermes example tests. The gateway finding comes from that native run, not from a test here.
Clarified that Hermes tool commands run through a gateway per Hermes home, rather than sharing one gateway per machine.
Updated the launcher example to describe separate gateways, homes, and sockets for two seats, and note that stopping one seat leaves the other running.
…mple launcher
The reference said Hermes runs one gateway per machine. A two-seat run
with the example launcher showed two separate gateways, homes and control
sockets, and stopping one seat left the other's processes running. Say
one per Hermes home, which is one per seat here.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The Hermes example documentation now describes gateways as scoped to a Hermes home or seat. It also records that, in a two-seat run, stopping one seat left the other gateway running.

The configuration comment describes tool commands running in the gateway for that Hermes home and its environment. The preset documentation describes separate gateways, homes, and sockets for two seats, and reports that one gateway remained running after the other seat stopped.

Document the identity-variable prerequisite.
The launcher uses "$OPENRIG_HOME/state/hermes/${OPENRIG_NODE_ID:-${OPENRIG_SESSION_NAME:-default}}". If both variables are unset, two seats use the same .../state/hermes/default home. Therefore, the launcher does not guarantee one gateway per seat without distinct identity values.

Approved at ac1ed52. Docs only: the Hermes example config and the community-harness presets guide now say Hermes runs tool commands in its gateway, one per Hermes home, so one per seat with the example launcher, replacing 'one gateway per machine'. The SRE's Hermes 0.7.3 window (H3) showed separate gateways, homes and sockets per seat, and stopping one seat left the other running. Resume stays undeclared. Desk read; text only. Root's 0.7.3 selection allows this exact two-file correction. Required CI passes at this head.
…mple launcher (#2097)
The Hermes example config and the community-harness presets guide now say that Hermes runs tool commands in its gateway, one per Hermes home, so one per seat with the example launcher. They said "one gateway per machine", which a two-seat run disproved: each seat had its own gateway, home and socket, and stopping one seat left the other running.
Docs only, two files, +5 -2. Hermes resume remains undeclared.
