Data Transformation in Crossover Mixed Analysis

This repository documents an ongoing independent research / personal R&D project on data transformation in the context of crossover mixed analysis.

It explores what happens when data moves between analytic traditions: quantitizing (words → numbers), qualitizing (numbers → narratives), and the ontological questions raised by that movement.

Scope

This is not about mixed methods in the conventional design sense (for example, combining interviews and surveys in sequential or convergent designs).

This repository is about mixed analysis: what happens inside the analytic process when a qualitative datum is transformed into a quantitative one, or vice versa. In the literature, this is often discussed under crossover analysis.

Most mixed-methods literature focuses on design. The analytic step — where integration actually happens — is less discussed, and the ontological assumptions embedded in each tradition are rarely made explicit. This repo works on that gap.

Current status

This project is still in development.

The current line of inquiry focuses on the ontological layer of data transformation. A working question throughout the repo is whether crossover analysis can be understood not only as a technical operation, but also as a passage between different assumptions about what data is.

The most recent thinking is concentrated in notes/ and analysis/. Foundations.md is an earlier 2025 draft and does not yet incorporate the newer reformulation.

Some of the ideas here are exploratory and still being refined.
