Blinking Screen

After building and flashing the project to my CYD, the screen seems to flash (blink) over and over again aver 1.5 seconds or so as if the unit is either resetting itself or doing some full screen redraw thing. I have a feeling I have an incompatible CYD. Is there any way to tell if I have the correct CYD to match this project?

The unit I'm using has number ESP32-2432S028 on the back, both MicroUSB and USB-C, and an RGB LED on the back - it looks identical to the unit listed here (https://github.com/witnessmenow/ESP32-Cheap-Yellow-Display/blob/main/cyd.md) but with ESP-32S (instead of WROOM) and with the USB C connector.

-e cyd2usb causes the lower two thirds of the screen to flash while the upper third stays solid.
-e cyd causes the entire screen to flash

I've got the exact same hardware and the same problem.

After flashing and seeing the flickering screen, I ran:
pio device monitor -p /dev/cu.usbserial-110 -b 115200
And this is part of the output that repeats, generally:

Ihis mean Your device working , probably You dont send system file. (system 3.0)
only rom for esp32 and firmware == emulator

@grrr9 @jcm-1 I missed the part about mounting the cyd_800k.dsk and the System 3.2 disk both in mini vMac and copying over the system folder. This got it to boot but using the cyd2usb instructions I then got a flickering desktop instead of a flickering question mark disk :) I used cyd (even though my model has both USB-A-micro and USB-C and that got it to work properly.

I've added a photo of the back of my device - it has the ili9341 screen attached.

Hi, repo owner here. It seems there are many minor variants of the CYD that look identical. While I cannot confirm full compatibility for your specific unit, it is worth trying the following:

• Gather the serial log to see if the device is crashing: pio device monitor or tio /dev/ttyUSB0
• Flash example apps from witnessmenow/ESP32-Cheap-Yellow-Display to determine the correct configuration for your hardware. This will help clarify whether the root cause is hardware-related or software-related.

Based on the description, your CYD might be compatible with the -e cyd build. Also providing the exact commands you executed with the full output logs would be very helpful (e.g. Possibly esptool --port /dev/ttyUSB0 --baud 921600 write_flash 0x210000 rom_patched.bin failed on your end due to different serial device name from Linux/Mac/Windows difference, etc.)

Had the same issue, managed to find the working System_3.0.dsk on the infinitemac.
As I understood, the stock image has the system, but not the custom apps, and cyd_800k.dsk in this repo has apps, but not the system.

To make it look like on the title picture, I need to merge these 2 disk images together using the provided hint

To create a fresh disk with System 3.2 using Mini vMac emulator: ./Mini\ vMac system3.dsk cyd_800k.dsk
Then copy System folder from system3.dsk to cyd_800k.dsk in the emulator

Now looking for Mini vMac version for Mac.

Not criticising, and understand the caution with Apple IP content, but a few more sentences in the build instruction could make it significantly easier to follow.
