Adapted and improved Libertinus Serif fonts.

Libertinus Serif is an extensive font family that has a lot of specialized characters and generally good Unicode support, as well as being a professional-looking serif font family with a very consistent aesthetic. It is therefore fit for academic writing in Linguistics and remains the primary font choice of Language Science Press.

However, since it has been maintained by a single person it understandably has a lot of gaps that need to be addressed for it to be suitable for our books. These gaps turn up semi-regularly in our publishing process. A lot of uncommon glyph-diacritic combinations don't get displayed correctly in Libertinus. Additionally, rare letters that are used in lesser-known languages may not exist as Libertinus glyphs at all. This is a problem when publishing books in or about these lesser-known languages. When that happens we update the fonts and collect all cumulative changes in this repo. We call the result Langscitinus (a portmanteau of LangSci Press and Libertinus).

As of September 2026, the Libertinus repo hasn't been updated in a while which is why we decided against requesting the creator of Libertinus to incorporate our changes into the "official" Libertinus Serif fonts.

Langscitinus is released under the terms of the SIL Open Font License, version 1.1.
