What is ContainrBot?

Basic container management requires terminal access or access to a restricted orchestrator-specific web app. ContainrBot enables container management via a configured chat system (Discord, Slack, etc) for a configured container orchestrator (Docker, Kubernetes) for a provided list of containers. This enables easy, secure access to a subset of container by adding users to a chat channel with ContainrBot chatbot access.

History of ContainrBot

ContainrBot was originally used to enable friends to start and stop Docker game servers in 2025. As we changed how we manage containers from Docker to Kubernetes, ContainrBot was changed to support Kubernetes instead. The change from Docker to Kubernetes was simple, so ContainrBot was updated to be extensible allowing chat systems and orchestrators to be added based on clear code contracts in 2026 and made public in May of 2026.

What is ContainrBot For?

ContainrBot is designed to do the following:

  • Allow users with access to a chat channel to easily manage select containers in an orchestrator
  • Be easily extensible with additional chat systems and container orchestrators

What Problem Does ContainrBot Solve?

Container management can be easier to support by using chat systems. This enables access to container management outside of a private network and allows easy security management by allowing users access to a chat channel with access to ContainrBot.

How Does ContainrBot Accomplish Its Goals?

ContainrBot does this by:

  • Separating concerns into two applications: ContainrBot and ContainrBotApi
    • ContainrBot is the chat bot that connects to the chat system and is interacted with by users
    • ContainrBotApi is a local-only API that enables orchestrator control and is what ContainrBot interacts with
