Accessibility error and alert after updating to the latest version of Attachments 4.2.1 #183
Accessibility error and alert after updating to the latest version of Attachments 4.2.1, Joomla 5.4.2 and Cassiopeia theme
Why did the columns File, File size, Downloads, Created, Last modified move so much after the update? The problem is with the Firefox browser.
I showed it in the screenshot.
Alert
The item you are trying to view is not visible; it may be hidden or inside of an accordion or tab component. Here is a preview:
Download this file (schemat_organizacyjny_DPS_Nr_2.pdf)
Error
Headings should not skip levels or jump from Heading 1 to Heading 3, as this disrupts the content's order and hierarchy, making it harder to follow. If Download this file (schemat_organizacyjny_DPS_Nr_2.pdf&#... falls under the Organizacja jednostki section, then consider formatting it as a Heading 2 instead.
Please look at this copy page. See if there are any errors, and the File, Filesize, Download, Created, and Last Modified headers are aligned correctly..
This h3 appears from the bootstrap modal. It is not part of the attachments plugin. You can find the relevant file in layouts/libraries/html/bootstrap/modal/header.php in your joomla installation.
In the previous version of Joomla it was exactly the same in the file and it worked without errors. I replaced h3 with div. Now I have this error with attachments.

I think that this warning is not really that serious. When the iframe for the modal is created when the page is loaded, the iframe has no content and no name. This is the fastest way to load the page as loading all the attachments of an article could make loading really slow. When the anchor button is clicked, the modal is shown and the file is loaded adding a name attribute to the iframe. Unfortunately the js that comes with joomla strips all attributes added to the iframe except for ['src', 'name', 'width', 'height']. I am not an accessibility expert so I don't know if the name attribute is enough to help a screen reader.
If you use the PR that @JLTRY created and disable opening files in a popup you should have no longer a hidden modal so the issue should go away but you will lose the modal preview of files.
@bsylwek did you have time to test I see no warnings in your page
At least it works if you keep the parameter File link open mode as In same window or In new window
Yes, I installed it and everything looks fine. I didn't mention it earlier because I've been testing a few settings and I don't see any errors or warnings. I haven't changed any settings in the Attachments component options.

@bsylwek that is a different separate issue. I will have a look at it, most probably the title is actually missing from the iframe.
parapente commentedon Jan 10, 2026
@bsylwek can you check the PR #182 ? It fixes some issues with modals. Now at least the iframe gets a name which wasn't appearing before.

Can you send me the installation zip file? I won't have FTP access until Monday at work. Right now, I only have access to the Joomla 5 admin panel.

@bsylwek what is your recommendation for latest warning ?
bsylwek commentedon Jan 10, 2026
Is there any way to solve warning this so it doesn't appear?
Try to Fix jmcameron#183 by removing modal if not needed
