Reference camera/lens pairing (acA2440-20gc + Edmund 58-000) isn't listed as compatible by the lens manufacturer #608

Description

Camera: Basler acA2440-20gc with Edmunds lens 58-000 (Resolution: 1152x1024, Frame Rate: 20 FPS)

Issue:

Edmund Optics' own product page for the 58-000 lens does not list the Basler acA2440-20gc in its "Compatible Cameras" section. Checking the numbers explains why:

  • 58-000 datasheet: Maximum Image Circle = 11.00mm
  • acA2440-20gc sensor (Sony IMX264, 2/3" format), active area ≈ 8.45mm × 7.07mm → diagonal:
    √(8.45² + 7.07²) ≈ 11.02mm

The sensor diagonal is marginally larger than the lens's rated image circle, essentially zero margin, on the wrong side of it. That's consistent with why Edmund's own compatibility tool excludes the pairing: no guaranteed full-sensor illumination/resolution, likely corner vignetting or softness right at the edges of the frame.

The lens still physically mounts (same C-mount) and produces an image (this isn't a hard blocker) but it means the reference hardware spec names a combination the lens manufacturer doesn't stand behind for full-frame coverage, which matters for anyone reproducing the physical cell exactly as documented.

Are the documented cameras and lens the wrong ones or Edmund Optics is just wrong?

Happy to share the full derivation/sources if useful.
