What This Repository Contains

This repository contains public documentation, examples, and usage notes for DocToMD. It does not contain the application source code for the hosted DocToMD service.

Use this repository to learn what the converter is designed for, see example Markdown output, and find practical notes for common document conversion workflows.

Common Workflows

  • Convert PDF files to readable Markdown drafts.
  • Convert Word documents, including DOC and DOCX, to editable .md content.
  • Convert public webpages and HTML pages to Markdown.
  • Convert spreadsheets, slide decks, ebooks, data files, and archives into Markdown-friendly output.
  • Prepare imported content for GitHub, static site generators, documentation systems, and AI knowledge bases.

Supported Input Types

DocToMD supports common document, office, web, data, ebook, archive, text, and image metadata workflows. The exact output depends on the source file structure.

For a detailed list, see Supported Formats.

Output Notes

Markdown is a text-first format. DocToMD focuses on extracting readable structure such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, and simple tables. Complex page layouts, merged table cells, scanned pages, comments, embedded objects, or heavily designed documents may need manual cleanup after conversion.
