fix(GenesisKit): no @Entry macro, so the app builds without Xcode's SwiftUI macro plugin - #568
Part of #564 (step 1 of 2; the SDK choice comes in a stacked PR).
Why
@Entry is a SwiftUI macro whose plugin (SwiftUIMacros) ships only with Xcode. On a Mac with only the Command Line Tools, every @Entry fails with external macro implementation type 'SwiftUIMacros.EntryMacro' could not be found. That happens with every SDK the CLT ship (26.5 and 27.0), so this is the one change no SDK choice can avoid.
What
The 6 @Entry environment values become a private struct <Name>Key: EnvironmentKey plus a computed EnvironmentValues property with get/set, in the style of GenesisKitBase/Style/MotionEnvironment.swift. Names, access levels (public / internal), types and defaults are unchanged:
scripts/ci/lint-rules.ts: a new Swift line rule, swift-no-entry-macro, refuses a new @Entry (2 tests in lint-rules.test.ts).
Verified (Command Line Tools only, Swift 6.4, macOS 26.5 SDK)
swift build of src/macos/GenesisTools with every part (Hub, Widget, Clicky, Markdown, Features): Build complete (86 s, debug).
swift build of src/macos/GenesisKit: Build complete.
Earlier, from the same patch: swift build -c release of the app (264 s), and the full tools macos permissions build pipeline into a scratch home (build, bundle, ad-hoc codesign, install, Launch Services), --version → 1.0. Details in GenesisTools.app builds without Xcode: macOS 26.5 SDK + replace 6 @Entry #564.
bun run test scripts/ci/lint-rules.test.ts -t swift-no-entry-macro: 2 pass. bun scripts/ci/lint-rules.ts: OK. Biome clean.
Not verified: a build with the full Xcode (none on this Mac). EnvironmentKey is the API @Entry expands to, so nothing should change there.
Swift environment settings retain their existing defaults and behavior across the affected macOS features.
Added validation that flags @Entry declarations in Swift source while ignoring comments, strings, regular expressions, and hand-written environment settings.
This review ran on the open-source allowance, not this organization's plan, because the pull request author doesn't have an assigned seat. Waiting won't change this — ask an organization admin to assign them a seat, or add seats in Billing if every seat is already assigned, then retry.
The changes replace four @Entry environment properties with explicit EnvironmentKey implementations. They also add a Swift lint rule that detects @Entry outside comments, strings, and regexes, with tests for reported and ignored cases.
These files replace @Entry declarations with private environment keys and computed properties. The properties retain their stated defaults and access levels.
Add @Entry lint rule and tests scripts/ci/lint-rules.ts, scripts/ci/lint-rules.test.ts
The Swift lint rule detects @Entry outside comments, strings, and regexes and recommends an EnvironmentKey implementation. Tests cover reported and ignored cases, diagnostic positions, and suppression.
GenesisTools issue 564: Requests replacing six SwiftUI @Entry uses with hand-written EnvironmentKey implementations and adding lint protection. This pull request replaces four properties and adds the lint rule.

The lint rule can miss an @Entry attribute after a bare-slash regex in Swift 6 source. This is a bounded gap to fix or explicitly accept before relying on the lint rule for that source.

⚠️ Potential issue
Recover or terminate the session when saving the movie fails
finish() sets the state to finishing before rename/join/cleanup, but any rejection escapes to enqueue(), which only emits a nonfatal error. The state stays finishing, every subsequent command (including Stop and Discard) is refused by apply(), and finished never resolves. A missing output parent, full disk, or ffmpeg failure therefore leaves the CLI and its host stuck indefinitely, with no supported way to recover the recorded segments. Handle save failures explicitly: either return to a retryable paused state while preserving segments or emit a fatal outcome and settle the session. The same terminal-error handling should cover failure to create the session directory during start(). Add failure-injection tests for rename/join and verify finished or a retry completes.
🧩 Analysis
Grep evidence: setState\("finishing"|recording session step failed|already being saved|await this.options.join|await rename
The newly added Up/Down navigation changes keyed but never scrolls to that commit. GitCommitList is embedded inside the ScrollView in MarkdownGitSidebar, so moving past the visible rows leaves the keyboard highlight offscreen, and Return or C acts on a commit the user cannot see. The repository panel's analogous moveKeyed() already calls proxy.scrollTo(id). Give commit rows scroll IDs and scroll the keyed row into view when moving; apply the same treatment to the newly added file-list step() navigation in GitCommitView.
Support output paths on another filesystem for a single segment
The new CLI accepts an arbitrary --output <path>, while segments always live under recordingsDir() in the user's home. For a normal recording with one segment, rename() fails with EXDEV when the destination is on an external disk or another mounted volume. Multi-segment recordings instead use ffmpeg to write the destination and do not have this restriction. Use a cross-device-safe move (copy followed by unlink after successful completion, preferably through a temporary destination) and test a simulated EXDEV failure so the common single-segment case honors the same output contract.

Round 1. The review body had 3 unanchored eve findings, all on files of the parent PRs that GitHub showed in this diff while the stack's parents moved. All 3 are fixed by the PRs that own the files: #562 (10a2cd4, bd16c3c and 7fb1542) and #581 (bc86241). This PR's own six files needed no change; it was restacked onto #581's head.
Recover recording sessions after save and startup failures (eve-bot-lovinka, no thread)
Context: Rename or join failures left the state at finishing and prevented all further commands while finished never settled. Directory creation failure also left the session pending. The recording-session source and its existing test file are outside the original six-file diff, but are required to fix this valid review-body finding in this PR.
Reveal keyboard-selected commits and changed files (eve-bot-lovinka, no thread)
Context: Up and Down changed the selected commit or file without revealing its row in the enclosing scroll view. The shared history view and its existing GitHistoryTests are outside the original six-file diff, but both are required by this valid review-body accessibility finding.
Publish a single recording segment across filesystems (eve-bot-lovinka, no thread)
Context: Single-segment saves used rename from the home recording directory to arbitrary output paths, which fails with EXDEV on another volume. This shares the recording-session source and existing test file required by the save-failure finding, outside the original six-file diff.

Review fixes 2026-10-26 04:07 from GPT-6.1 Sol judged by Claude Opus 5.5 (fable-judge)
Round 2. 1 unresolved thread (CodeRabbit 1, eve 0). 1 fixed, 0 rejected. Previously handled round-1 findings are unchanged. Fixed in 7a59d99; the lead ran the tests and committed.
Match the Entry macro only outside Swift comments and strings (CR)
Context: The new line rule searched the full line after excluding only comment-only lines. Inline comments and string literals mentioning @entry therefore produced false errors that could block valid Swift source.
constcodeLines=maskSwiftNonCode(source).split("\n");// In the existing rule loop:constcolumn=(rule===SWIFT_ENTRY_MACRO_RULE ? codeLines[index] : text).search(pattern);
How was this fixed: Added a scanner that blanks line comments, nested block comments, ordinary and escaped strings, and raw or multiline strings while preserving line and column offsets. Only swift-no-entry-macro uses the masked text; the other Swift rules retain their existing behavior. Extended the existing lint-rules test file with negative cases for ignored text, positive cases for real attributes after comments and strings, exact diagnostic positions, and suppression coverage. Verification:.
Reply (thread resolved, no thread reply): Fixed in the working tree. The Entry macro rule now scans Swift code with comments and strings blanked while preserving diagnostic positions. Regression cases cover inline and nested comments, escaped, raw and multiline strings, and real attributes after ignored text. Verification:.

Round 3. 2 unresolved threads (eve 1, CodeRabbit 1). 1 fixed in the working tree, 1 already done in round 2, 0 rejected, 0 deferred. The regex fix is the same lexical-masking class as the round-2 fix and qualifies under the round-3 policy. Fixed in 683236a; the lead ran the tests and committed.
Exclude comments and string literals from the Entry check (eve-bot-lovinka)
Context: Eve reports false findings for strings, inline comments and block documentation comments containing @entry. This duplicates the finding addressed in round 2.
How was this fixed: Already addressed by round-2 commit 7a59d99. Current scripts/ci/lint-rules.ts:820 builds masked code lines and line 829 applies the Entry pattern to them. Existing scripts/ci/lint-rules.test.ts:37 and :56 cover strings, inline comments and nested block comments. The later Biome commit retains that behavior. Verification:.
Confidence: 98%
Mask hash-delimited Swift regex literals before interpreting inner quotes (CR)
Context: The masker treated quotes within hash-delimited regex literals as Swift string delimiters. This could hide a later real Entry attribute; regex contents mentioning @entry could also produce false findings. This is the same lexical-masking class as the round-2 fix, so it is fixed under the round-3 policy.
How was this fixed: Recognize hash-delimited regex openers before quoted strings and mask their bodies through the matching hash-count terminator, skipping escaped characters. Inner quotes and comment markers no longer alter the string or comment states. Added two tests in the existing lint-rules test file covering literal @entry, inner quotes, multiple hashes, escaped delimiters, multiline bodies, and a real attribute after a regex with its exact diagnostic position. Verification:.
Reply (thread resolved, no thread reply): Fixed in the working tree. The masker recognizes hash-delimited regex literals before string delimiters and ignores their contents through the matching terminator. Regression cases cover both reported failures, multiple hashes, escaped delimiters and multiline bodies, and confirm that a later real attribute is still reported at its original position. This is the same class as the round-2 masking fix. Verification:.

⚠️ Potential issue
Also reject module-qualified SwiftUI.Entry attributes
Swift permits module-qualified macro attributes, so extension EnvironmentValues { @SwiftUI.Entry var flag = false } still invokes the very SwiftUIMacros plugin this guard is meant to prohibit. The pattern only matches the literal @Entry, leaving the qualified spelling entirely unreported even after masking. Recognize both unqualified and SwiftUI-qualified Entry attributes, and add a positive test for the qualified form so the CLT-only build constraint cannot be accidentally bypassed.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Valid. The rule should also match @SwiftUI.Entry, with a positive test for the qualified spelling. No file in the tree uses that spelling today (the whole-tree lint and a search find none), so nothing builds with the macro plugin now. The pull request has had its three fix rounds, so this finding waits for a follow-up, and this thread stays open until then.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
End single-line strings at a newline so one stray quote cannot hide later @Entry uses.
A single-line (" or #") string in maskSwiftNonCode has no newline exit. The masker keeps it open until the next matching delimiter, even across lines. Swift forbids a raw newline in these strings, so an open one means the masker has misread the source.
A trigger is a bare-slash regex literal such as let r = /"/. Swift 6 language mode enables these, and the masker handles only #/.../#. The " inside it opens a string state. The state stays open until some later " closes it. Every @Entry in between is masked, and the CI gate reports a false negative. The same applies to any other construct the masker does not model.
This is the same class of problem as the earlier hash-regex finding, so a generic recovery is better than adding one more delimiter.
Pop a single-line string at the first \n when interpolation depth is 0. Add a regression test with an unbalanced quote on one line and a real @Entry on the next line.
Based on learnings: an audit gate must use syntax-aware matching, because partial pattern coverage lets real violations pass as a clean report.

🛠️ Refactor suggestion
Regression: module-qualified @SwiftUI.Entry bypasses the guard again
The previously reported module-qualified-attribute issue is present again in the current head: the new masking/line-rule implementation uses only /@Entry\b/. Consequently, @SwiftUI.Entry var flag = false produces no finding, even though it invokes the same Xcode-only SwiftUIMacros plugin and breaks the CLT build this guard is intended to protect. Preserve the earlier qualified-attribute coverage when matching masked Swift code, and add a regression test for that spelling.
