Welcome to the Recall wiki. Recall turns your own study material into practice exams.

Before you start: you need an API key

Recall uses an AI to read your material, write questions and grade your answers. To do that it needs an API key. That's a long secret code that lets Recall use an AI on your behalf. You get one from an AI provider, and the provider bills you for what you use.

You need one key, from either provider. Pick the one you like:

Each guide takes about 10 minutes, step by step, from creating the account to pasting the key into Recall.

Good to know first

  • A Claude or ChatGPT subscription doesn't include an API key. Claude Pro, ChatGPT Plus and similar plans are for the chat websites only. An API account is separate and has its own billing, even if you sign in with the same email.
  • You pay in advance, and only for what you use. You buy a small amount of credit (for example $5 or $10), and each thing Recall does uses a little of it. Recall shows the expected cost before anything that costs noticeably.
  • Treat the key like a password. Anyone who has it can spend your credit. Never share it, and set a spending limit (the guides show how).
