v1.1.0: senior-dev pass — backlog, clone generator, Phase 3 pilot (reset_cursor v0.3) - #9
Conversation
- README/docs cover the 8th IDE suite (AutoClaw) + its GHOST.bat submenu [4] - APP_CLONING_PLAYBOOK / EDGE_CASES / INTAKE_TEMPLATE: generic clone-any-app methodology (identity suite, never-silently-degrade rule, icon policy) - AGENTS.md: AutoClaw conventions, elevation ground truth, cloning playbook - CHANGELOG: Unreleased accumulates both features (kept Unreleased until the 1.1.0 release commit)
- reset_* x7: .Source P0 regression, silent-success paths, qoder hostname false-fail, robocopy skip, DryRun real deletes - identity_utils: drop dead Stop-AppProcesses (superseded by per-script kills) - sqlite_keys: clear_cli_telemetry gains verify-after remaining count so a delete that did not stick marks the step FAILED; restore.py BOM handling - watch_zcode_captcha: parse continue stamps as UTC explicitly (bare [datetime] cast turned Z-suffixed strings local, skewing the hourly cap) - watch_zcode_taskbar: PropVariantClear after VT_LPWSTR readback (resident watcher leaked on every 5s poll) - update_ghost: PS 5.1 joins string[] -ArgumentList unquoted; pass one pre-quoted command line so whitespace args (stash message) survive - diagnose_zcode_freeze: $script:-scope the OOM flag; 1455 regex lookahead - repo-integrity: stale-paths scan falls back to filesystem scan on download-ZIP copies without .git
Full suite per docs/AUTOCLAW_CLONES_SPEC.md: - patch_autoclaw_ports.ps1/.mjs (engine v10): widen the hardcoded 4-slot MCP port array to 8 + .autoclaw-home state-dir override read from --user-data-dir via argv scan (elevation ground truth: the app's requireAdministrator manifest drops launcher env, only args survive) - launch_autoclaw_clone.ps1 (-Instance inst1..4, -Status): -Verb RunAs launch carrying --user-data-dir, credential-free seed (tokens stripped, token-cache.json excluded, gateway state never seeded), ed25519 keypair rotation, marker-guarded seed completion, verify-after-launch health/ port/pairing checks, settings.json gateway.port as the surviving port lever - reset_autoclaw.ps1 (-Target Primary|inst1..4|All, -DryRun): rotates auth deviceId + identity keypair, deletes paired.json (live operator credential), sets system.autoUpdate=false as the asar-patch guard - install_autoclaw_clone_shortcuts.ps1: per-clone AUMIDs + per-clone icons (blue/yellow/green/red branding assets, red = blue master +150 degree hue-rotate via make_clone_icon.ps1), -RepairPrimaryAumid hijack repair - GHOST.bat: fourth submenu [1]-[12] (gids 29-40), IDE Resets [9], :ResetsOne local resolver closing the gid-28 gap
- launch_zcode_second_instance.ps1 [2c] v2 routing: compare the clone's encrypted bot credential sha8 (credentials.json -> bot:<id>:credential, enc:v1:, hash only) + bot id against Primary across BOTH bot-config.json and bot-config.v3.json (the Fourth v2=False/v3=True split looked disabled while polling); duplicate -> disable both files, unique (operator pasted a distinct BotFather token in the clone UI) -> preserve + .telegram-routed v2 marker, never reverted; legacy v1 empty markers keep old behavior - tools/set_zcode_bot.ps1: -VerifyOnly audit / -Target <name> -Fix backup-first sync across all 4 homes; fails loudly on duplicate-while-enabled - tests/set_zcode_bot.Tests.ps1: guardian logic (4 passing) - docs/ZCODE_TELEGRAM_BOTS.md: the BotFather flow + quota decision
- .bat-harness-test.ps1 leaves .gitignore: it is now a first-class CI test, not a throwaway. Derives the repo root from $PSScriptRoot, expects 5 set /p sites (main + 4 submenus after AutoClaw), adds scenarios H (AutoClaw submenu render) + I (invalid AutoClaw chain id) - 9 scenarios, local PASS - ci.yml windows job: harness step + node engines step (node --check + ENGINE_VERSION marker on both asar-patcher .mjs engines) - ci.yml gains a workflow_call trigger so release.yml can gate a tag on the full suite
- release.yml: on tag push v* the full CI suite gates the tag first (workflow_call), then a git-archive ZIP (tracked files only - exactly what update_ghost.ps1's download-ZIP path fetches) is published as a GitHub Release with notes extracted from the matching CHANGELOG section; guards: tag format vX.Y.Z, CHANGELOG section must exist, ZIP size sanity, verify-after asset check (never silent-success) - CHANGELOG: [Unreleased] -> [1.1.0] - 2026-10-17 (fresh Unreleased on top) - src/python/ghost __version__ 1.0.0 -> 1.1.0 First release flow (deliberately manual): git tag v1.1.0 && git push origin main --tags
… tail tracking - Read-NewLogLines rewritten byte-level: consume only up to the LAST complete newline so a trailing partial line (or partial multi-byte char) is re-read complete next pass; the offset advances by bytes actually consumed instead of a Get-Item length probed after ReadToEnd (the old race skipped anything the agent appended in between). BOM stripped at offset 0. Harness-verified 6/6: complete lines, partial tail hold, tail completion, truncation reset, Arabic multibyte round-trip, partial-multibyte hold, CRLF. - Single-instance guard mirroring watch_zcode_taskbar.ps1: startup process scan (catches stale pre-mutex copies) + named mutex 'ZcodeCaptchaWatchdog' (two residents would double-fire restarts/Telegram on the shared state file); -RunOnce always runs (one-shot diagnostic, same semantics as the taskbar watcher); pid-stamped console title before the guard
…s a clone rev-parse --is-inside-work-tree answers 'true' for a Download-ZIP folder extracted inside ANOTHER repository (git walks up the tree) - the updater then ran the clone flow against the PARENT repo (fetch/pull/reset in the wrong place, 'no origin remote' as the visible symptom). The clone track now additionally requires rev-parse --show-toplevel to equal the GHOST folder itself (Test-OwnWorkTree, case-insensitive, forward-slash normalized); a parent-tree hit is warned about explicitly and routes into the existing conversion flow. Header docs updated. Harness: own-repo detection + ZIP-in- parent -CheckOnly routing (no .git written, parent HEAD untouched).
…-phase rule) Title-only mains matching claimed a splash-phase clone (titled plain 'ZCode') as a Primary main and recycled its app-servers as if they were Primary's - the verified 2026-09-24/26 lesson. Port the proven taskbar- watcher classification: one WMI snapshot, window -> root ZCode.exe walk, clone markers (roaming/home dir names) matched across the subtree command lines; a clone's v6 color title overrides a spurious Primary marker read; plain 'ZCode' + unmarked tree = Primary; anything unresolved is skipped, never guessed. Instance defs carry Markers (Exclude dropped - redundant). Live smoke -Target All -RunOnce -DryRun: Third classified + scanned correctly against running windows.
…s PSHOME Both shortcut installers set TargetPath to $PSHOME\powershell.exe - correct only when the installer itself runs under Windows PowerShell 5.1. Under pwsh 7 $PSHOME is pwsh's own directory (no powershell.exe) and every created shortcut targeted a nonexistent exe. Pin System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0 (the launchers are 5.1-first) + fail fast when absent. Applies to both the ZCode and AutoClaw installers; existing shortcuts were created under 5.1 and are unaffected.
…ing) Unquoted %%chain%% / %%choice%% expansions executed hostile self-input: '1 & calc' at any of the five prompts ran calc, parens broke the parse. :ValidateChoice (new) allowlists digits/spaces/commas/U,u inside an isolated delayed-expansion scope - !var! values are post-parse data, so hostile characters cannot break out of the probe itself - and every prompt site rejects before its '0' check, tokenization, for-in dispatch or :RunChain call. cmd gotchas encoded: the space must be the LAST delim char (for /f splits option groups at spaces/commas), eol=; documented as an inert residual. Harness 12/12: hostile amp, hostile parens, hostile submenu input all rejected with the hint; valid chains unchanged.
From an intake JSON (or interactive defaults): emits reset_<slug>.ps1, launch_<slug>_clone.ps1, Launch-<Pascal>-Clone.bat, install_<slug>_clone_shortcuts.ps1 (+ branding wiring, -RepairPrimaryAumid port shape) and docs/<SLUG>_CLONES_SPEC.md with a provenance ground-truth table; wires the GHOST.bat submenu by anchor edit (backup + verify-after, submenu id / DispatchOne gids parsed from the current file); parse-checks every emitted .ps1 (never silent-success). Phases 0-2 stay with the agent as <TODO: Phase 1 discovery> slots. Harness count assertion becomes a floor (>=5) so generated suites add prompt sites without breaking it. slug reserved-list guarded; refuses to double-wire or overwrite.
…ines
The [4]-block close-paren insertion cut the LF (Substring closeIdx+2 kept
CR only) leaving ')if "%first%"=="5" (' joined on one line - downstream
parse corrupted, harness scenarios D/I lost their Unknown-task output.
Insert past the full CRLF (+3). The DispatchOne gid lines carried a literal
__SLUG__ token (Expand never ran inside Edit-GhostMenu) - build them from
the slug directly. Cosmetic: ASCII-only hint text (BOM-less UTF-8 mangles
section signs under PS 5.1). Acceptance demo re-run: harness 12/12 with the
suite wired, Pester 35/36 green with README-consistency as the only (by-
design) failure for an undocumented demo suite.
- docs/PYTHON_HYBRID_ROADMAP.md: Phase 2 (leaf tools) CANCELLED with the per-tool reasons (Pillow/pywin32 break the stdlib-only invariant, block_qoder is never-committed by design); Phase 3 pilot design (reset_cursor thin-manifest contract, new core modules, migration order, acceptance criteria incl. the mandatory live comparison run); Phase 4 unchanged. - ghost/backup.py: port of Backup-FileToTimestampDir (file or tree, 6-attempt lock retry with the same backoff curve, clobber semantics, caller-owned timestamp) + the verify-after invariant the PS version lacks (byte/entry comparison; a mismatched partial copy is removed). Inert until the pilot wires it - Backup-FileToTimestampDir stays live. - 8 unittest cases: file/tree/skip/subdir-label/clobber/transient-retry/ permanent-lock/verify-mismatch. Suite 39/39.
…ne detection, gateway verify (concurrent-session work, reviewed) Reviewed + committed as one unit on behalf of the concurrent session that authored it (2026-10-17, live-verified on real clones): - FIRST-RUN seed gate = the PRIMARY's profile lockfile, never 'any AutoClaw.exe running' - the old any-process check made inst1 running block inst2/3/4's first launch for the full 180s wait (cmd flash, no app); clones are named AutoClaw.exe too and never lock the Primary's files. - Running-clone detection gains the lockfile probe: AutoClaw scrubs its PEB cmdline (WMI permanently blind), so the marker subtree match alone cannot see a running clone. - Gateway verify: a sign-in-screen instance never sends APP_MAIN_UI_READY, so NO gateway is a WARN when the profile has no token (the ONE manual login pending) and FAIL only when a token is present. - Primary openclaw.json hash changes are attributed via the Primary lockfile before/after: a browser-extension native-host spawn (bare AutoClaw.exe opening the Primary - the 'modified externally' dialogs) is out-of-band activity, not a clone breach. - AGENTS.md: the three matching ground-truth bullets (seed gate, sign-in gate, native-host spawn) added under the AutoClaw conventions.
…thin manifest - ghost/filesweep.py: remove_verified (Remove-VerifiedFileNoBackup twin), remove_identity_store (Clear-BinaryIdentityStore twin per path - backup best-effort, rename with stale-.backup clobber or delete, 6-attempt backoff, relative-label derivation from --root-path), sweep_tree (Clear-TreeFilesIndividually twin - whole-tree backup then per-file 4-attempt delete + remaining-count verify). Missing sources = skipped+ok. - ghost/winstore.py: write_machineid_file (Set-VerifiedMachineIdFile twin - backup, BOM-less UTF-8 write, re-read verify), rotate_device_id_salt (Set-DeviceIdSalt twin - electron.media dicts created when missing, 32-hex salt generated internally), remove_json_keys (Remove-OsCryptEncryptedKey twin generalized to dotted paths; missing walk = skip-ok). - ghost/__main__.py: backup / machineid-file / salt-rotate / json-remove / store-delete / sweep-file / sweep-tree subcommands, same base64-JSON-in / JSON-out / exit-code contract as the existing bridges. - Tests 58/58: 12 module cases (clobber, retries via monkeypatched sleeps, verify-mismatch, labels) + 5 CLI smoke bridge contracts. Every report's ok flag is a filesystem re-read, never a non-throwing call.
…(Phase 3 pilot) The 15 steps, their order, audit keys, restore-script actions and summary are IDENTICAL to v0.2 (archived locally at archive/reset_cursor_windows-v0.2.ps1, never committed per convention). Every store mutation now runs through src/python/ghost_cli.py via ONE invocation helper (Invoke-GhostCore: functional python probe + UTF-8 console + exit-code check), using the tested core modules: machineid-file, json-patch, sqlite-update, delete-secrets, sweep-file, salt-rotate, json-remove, store-delete, sweep-tree, backup. Deleted from v0.2: the step-4 inline temp-.py heredoc (replaced by the shared delete-secrets subcommand - the exact de-duplication the repo conventions mandate) and ~400 lines of one-off local mutation helpers. Kept as PS orchestration: self-elevation + done marker (cursor_v0.3_done), aggressive tree-kill, workspace glob, ID_Backups purge + watchdog re-verify, final probes, summary. Fail-fast change: v0.2 could run JSON-only steps without Python; v0.3 needs it for every step, so the run aborts up front when the functional probe fails. device_id_salt is now lowercase hex (Python token_hex; opaque random value - case not significant). 1031 -> 840 lines. Live comparison run pending user supervision (pilot acceptance #3).
…lity) The manifest-fidelity pass caught it: Clear-TreeFilesIndividually removes the emptied directories (deepest first) and the tree root itself after the per-file deletion - the tree must not survive the sweep. Ported + test updated (the tree path must be gone, not just empty).

196-198: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winThe audit log and restore script use only the last target's backup directory.
$backupRootis reassigned inside the loop at Line 140. With-Target All, the audit log and restore script go only to the Fourth backup directory. That restore script still lists the actions for all homes. The Primary, Second, and Third backup directories get no audit file. - It kills Cursor.
- Every step fails with
core not found.- Step 15 runs
Invoke-OldIdBackupsPurge. The purge deletes all earlierID_Backupsruns, but the current run backed up nothing. The header says "without Python the run fails fast". v0.3 cannot run any step without the core. Fail before any mutation if either dependency is missing.

125-128: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winNon-zero exits discard the report, so the failure branches in the callers never run.
The new subcommands exit 1 when
report["ok"]is false, but they still print a JSON report.Invoke-GhostCorereturns$nullon any non-zero exit. The callers are then affected as follows:
Backup-ViaCore: alockedorverifybackup returns$falsewithout output. The[WARN] backup did not completebranch on Line 157 never runs.store-delete(steps 8–10): a failed delete is audited ascore-invoke-failed. The realaftertext (for exampledelete-failed: <error>) is lost.-Ok $storeReport.okis always true.sweep-tree(steps 11–13): an incomplete sweep losesfailed_paths. The per-filedelete-failedaudit loops only run whenfailed -eq 0, so they never add entries.Pass/fail counts stay correct. The audit loses the diagnostic detail that the new code is written to record.

Fail a scenario when cmd exits with an error.
Invoke-Scenario discards the batch process exit code. For example, the hostile-input scenarios can print Invalid input and then abort; their output checks can still report a pass. Check $LASTEXITCODE immediately after cmd, before another native command can replace it. PowerShell does not make a failed native command throw solely because $ErrorActionPreference is Stop. (learn.microsoft.com)
Based on learnings: “After each external command invocation, explicitly check $LASTEXITCODE.”

Check that release creation succeeded.
If gh release create fails while an earlier release already has ghost-$tag.zip, the next step finds that asset and marks this run successful. After a tag is moved, that result can leave the old ZIP published for the new tag target. Check $LASTEXITCODE immediately after gh release create; the asset-name check does not verify this run's publication. (cli.github.com)
Based on learnings: “After each external command invocation, explicitly check $LASTEXITCODE.”

Fix the malformed quoting of the --user-data-dir argument.
The last argument expands to "--user-data-dir="C:\...\profile". It has three quote characters. Under CommandLineToArgvW rules, the second quote closes the quoted section, so the path is outside quotes. The script header says the launcher works "for any Windows user". If $CloneProfile contains a space (for example C:\Users\John Smith\...), the argument splits at the space. AutoClaw then gets a truncated --user-data-dir. With the wrong profile path, the clone either opens the wrong profile or loses its single-instance lock separation. The diagnostic hint at Line 657 prints the same malformed form.

🌐 Web query:
OpenClaw paired.json deviceId key identity device.json schema
💡 Result:
You’re asking how the two files relate. **They hold different parts of device identity and pairing:**
- **`identity/device.json`** is the client’s local key identity. Its legacy JSON shape is `{ "deviceId", "publicKey", "privateKey", "createdAtMs" }`. `deviceId` is derived from the Ed25519 public key; the implementation validates that the public and private keys match. ([github.com](https://github.com/openclaw/openclaw/blob/main/apps/shared/OpenClawKit/Sources/OpenClawKit/DeviceIdentity.swift))
- **`devices/paired.json`** was a legacy **Gateway-side pairing store**, not the client identity file. Its paired records included fields such as `deviceId`, `publicKey`, and approval/creation timestamps; pending requests could also appear in that file in older or malformed state. (GitHub issue 134340 in openclaw/openclaw (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference))
- **Current storage:** OpenClaw’s docs say pairing records now live in `~/.openclaw/state/openclaw.sqlite`; older `devices/*.json` files can be imported with `openclaw doctor --fix` and archived as `.migrated`. ([github.com](https://github.com/openclaw/openclaw/blob/main/docs/channels/pairing.md?utm_source=openai))
So, the local `deviceId` identifies the keypair; the Gateway’s paired record approves that identity and its roles. The exact legacy `paired.json` schema can vary by version—these sources don’t establish one universal schema.

Compare paired.json with the gateway device ID.
$cloneOwnDeviceId reads the Electron ID from auth.json, but paired.json contains gateway pairing keys. The launcher rotates these IDs independently. Therefore, the clone's own gateway key can be reported as foreign, set $verifyOk to $false, and make the launch exit 1 after pairing.

The step 4 backup overwrites the step 3 pre-reset backup of state.vscdb.
Step 3 backs up state.vscdb to $backupRoot\<sqliteLabel> and then sets a new storage.serviceMachineId. Step 4 then calls Backup-ViaCore with the same source and the same label. backup_to_timestamped_dir overwrites an existing destination. After step 4, the only backup holds the step-3-modified database with the new serviceMachineId. The pre-reset copy is lost.
The run also records two copy actions for the same path. The restore script therefore cannot bring back the original serviceMachineId.
Remove the second backup, because step 3 already captured the pre-mutation state. If a separate snapshot is required, use a distinct label.

Anchor on the :UnknownTask label line. A second generator run corrupts GHOST.bat.
IndexOf(':UnknownTask') returns the first match. The first match is the label only on the first run. Each generated resolver contains call :UnknownTask "%~1", and Anchor 3 inserts that resolver before the label. On the next run for a different slug, the first match is inside the earlier suite's resolver. The new submenu is then spliced into the middle of if not defined RESOLVED call :UnknownTask, which corrupts GHOST.bat.
The verify-after step only checks that the new strings are present, so it passes. Lines 683-684 then overwrite GHOST.bat. The .bak file holds the edited content, not the original, and the script deletes it. No copy of the original remains outside git.

Review comment at @tools/new_clone_suite.ps1 around lines 571 - 574:
Update the anchor lookup around `$anchorUT` and `$idx` to match the
`:UnknownTask` label line rather than the same text inside resolver calls, then
splice `$submenu` at the label’s start. This ensures repeated generator runs
insert the submenu at the intended label.

Remove the TEMP DEBUG argv logging from the shipped resolver.
ARGV_SCAN_CACHED and homeOverrideIife (Line 74) inject appendFileSync calls into every patched resolver site. Each call writes process.argv and the resolved clone home to %TEMP%\ac-argv-debug.txt. The homeOverrideIife debug block has no cache. It runs on every getPath("home") call, so the file grows without a limit. The argv also contains user profile paths. The comment at Line 73 marks this code as temporary field diagnosis. Remove the debug writes before release, or gate them behind an explicit opt-in. Then bump ENGINE_VERSION and add a literal swap so that already-patched trees lose the instrumentation. Line 139 uses "ac-argv-debug" as a gate. Update that gate in the same change.

Remove the temporary appendFileSync debug writes from ARGV_SCAN_CACHED and
homeOverrideIife so patched resolvers no longer record argv or clone-home paths.
Bump ENGINE_VERSION and update the literal swap and the ac-argv-debug gate so
already-patched trees lose the instrumentation.

The runner checks out text files with CRLF and (?m)$ does not match before the CR, so ';$' never matched on real checkouts (the step passed nowhere until its first CI run - the local verification ran the same regex against the same files and now guards every future change).
- delete_secrets generalizes: optional exact_keys / like_patterns / escape (LIKE ESCAPE for literal underscores - the windsurf/devin auth patterns); defaults stay the Cursor lists, zero caller breakage - winstore.patch_argv_json (Update-ArgvJsonIdentity twin): JSONC regex - comments survive, crash-reporter-id value replaced, key inserted into the trailing object when absent, username scrubbed in raw text, re-read verify - winstore.replace_text (Set-UsernameScrubbedFile twin): raw replace + absence verify; clean files skip the backup - winstore.set_json_path (Clear-AppOrgBinding twin): dotted-path set with the skip-if-empty contract - CLI: delete-secrets [config_b64] + patch-argv / replace-text / json-set - tests 67/67 (incl. the ESCAPE wildcard-suppression case: X in windsurfXauth does NOT match \_) - harness: explicit exit 0 - pwsh -File propagates the last native $LASTEXITCODE, and GHOST.bat's timeout calls fail on CI consoles (no interactive stdin) AFTER the PASS line printed - first CI run caught it
