… CLI error contract backup_to_timestamped_dir and Backup-FileToTimestampDir uniquify the label with -2/-3 suffixes instead of clobbering the pristine pre-run copy; filesweep adds a trailing-separator root guard; ghost_cli main maps unexpected errors to one stderr line + exit 1; winstore patch_argv_json mints a fresh crash-reporter id. identity_utils tests cover the new contract.

… + update-recovery byte-probe After an app update wipes the marker and backups, byte-probe app.asar for the engine's signature strings and re-patch with a FRESH pristine backup (no -Force needed); v8 also matches 3.16.3's second auto-updater gate conjunction. Marker patchVersion bumps auto-upgrade older markers.

The launcher also fixes the step 2d pre-launch sync path (src\tools -> repo tools), adds step 2e resident-watcher auto-start (mutex-probed, never blocks the launch) and imports PropVariantClear from ole32 (oleaut32 lost the export in 19041.7548).

Writes a fictional ProcessorNameString to all HKLM CentralProcessor subkeys from an 8-name realistic pool so the fingerprint self-test's heaviest changeable signal (cpu.name, weight 0.12) moves, completing the documented 0.19 delta. Rides the existing backup/verify-after/rollback loop; CentralProcessor.reg exported to the backup dir and imported by the restore script. Accepted live 2026-10-18.
