Incorrect Window Title Bar in Wayland Gnome

The window title bar looks like the following after enabling wayland in gnome:

The title bar is normal (default gnome title bar) when wayland socket is disabled.

Spotify doesn't officially support Wayland so its not expected to be perfect.

This is the default Chromium titlebar. Spotify needs to enable their own.

Ah I also opened an issue #327 for the same thing, but surprisingly it wasnt happening before (like beginning of March) and Im all this time on GNOME Wayland, I dont think I changed any flags or anything as well

This is a problem since spotify hasn't implemented the workaround of implementing libdecor to imitate GNOME styled client-side decorations, that and GNOME not supporting server-side decorations on wayland, one of them would have to do one of them and you can guess which one won't budge.

Spotify doesn't need to do anything special, they already use CSD on macOS and Windows, they just need to enable it by default on Linux.

Spotify doesn't need to do anything special, they already use CSD on macOS and Windows, Electron just doesn't enable it by default on Linux.

Spotify doesn't use electron though. I found coresponding issue for CEF

Worked fine on the same installation of the flatpak this morning. When I restarted the app after having "Spotify can't play this right now" messages, this problem appeared for me. Didn't ever restart the GNOME session.

Same issue happens with .deb installs. Reverting to prior commits or forcing x11 solves the issue.

Am on Debian 13, GNOME 48.7.

running it in x11 is a temp workaround

flatpak override --user --socket=x11 com.spotify.Client
env WAYLAND_DISPLAY= flatpak run com.spotify.Client --ozone-platform=x11 --disable-features=UseOzonePlatform

Anyone know how to make the above permenant? I disable "Wayland windowsing system" in flatseal but spotify wont open, running the above command in terminal works though

You may use flatpak override --user --unset-env=XDG_SESSION_TYPE --socket=x11 --nosocket=wayland com.spotify.Client

Someone on Reddit found a solution to make it use x11 mode by default, which is to edit /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications/com.spotify.Client.desktop and change the Exec command.

From (original):
Exec=/usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=spotify --file-forwarding com.spotify.Client @@u %U @@

To:
Exec=env WAYLAND_DISPLAY= /usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=spotify --file-forwarding com.spotify.Client -ozone-platform=x11 -disable-features=UseOzonePlatform @@u %U @@

This worked for me on Fedora+Gnome after a couple of restarts of the app.

This file will be overwritten after every update. Better to copy it under ~/.local/share/applications then edit as you like.
