fix(files): open relative links into a Claude Code session's scratch folder - #1134
Conversation
…folder Claude Code writes files it keeps outside the project to <tmp>/claude-<uid>/<project>/<session>/scratchpad/ and names them in prose relative to that folder. /api/fs/file resolved them only against the pane's cwd, so the link answered not_found. When the pane's folder has no such file and the pane runs Claude Code, the lookup now tries that session's temp folder, found from the transcript the chat already resolves (its folder is <project>, its name <session>). Only a claude-<uid> folder this user owns is read. Refs #803 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

`locateFile` lookup so parent traversal cannot resolve outside the session
folder. Before calling `locateFile`, verify the resolved path remains within
`folder`, using path-separator-aware containment rather than a plain prefix
check.

Problem
Claude Code keeps files it writes outside the project in a per-session folder,
<tmp>/claude-<uid>/<project>/<session>/scratchpad/, and names them in chat relative to that folder (scratchpad/upstream-pr.md)./api/fs/fileresolved a relative path only against the pane's cwd (andfilesNamedunder it), so the link answerednot_found.Change
Built in, no setting. When the pane's folder has no such file and the pane runs Claude Code, the file route tries that session's temp folder:
claudePaneSession): its folder name is<project>and its file name is<session>, so only the live session's folder is read, not every session of the same cwd. This avoids the ambiguity a{cwd-slug}/*glob would bring.claudeSessionTempDirlooks underos.tmpdir()and/tmp, and only in aclaude-<uid>folder this user owns (another user could create it first in a shared/tmp). On Windows there is no uid, so it is skipped.locateFileagain with that folder as base, soscratchpad/x.mdand a barex.md(viafilesNamed) both work, and several matches come back as the usualambiguous_pathcandidates.~path, a pane that is not Claude, or a herdr error leaves today'snot_foundunchanged.Testing
server/claude-store.test.ts: the folder is found under the transcript's project. It is null with no folder, a base owned by another uid, a file name that is not a session id, or no uid.scratchpad/probe.mdandprobe.mdresolve to the session's scratchpad file, while the pane cwd alone answers null.bun run typecheck, plus the server/scripts conventions tests, file-view and changelog-fold tests, pass.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
