Description

Release bump for QA 5.0.9 (71). Daryl approved it on 2026-11-01. It's a focused release with two changes, both already on this branch:

This PR adds scripts/bump_version.py output for 5.0.8 (70) → 5.0.9 (71): both build.gradle files, .fdroid.yml, and the Play and Fastlane changelogs 71. It also adds the release notes docs/release_notes/5.0.9_announcement.md. Their verification fields (source revision, APK SHA-256, Jenkins build number) are filled in after Jenkins builds, and the GitHub release body is updated to match.

Reasoning

The release policy asks for 3 improvements per build. Daryl chose to release with these two so ExpressiveOS phones get Pro now, and the notes say it's a focused release.

Testing

  • CI contract suite: python3.14 -m unittest discover -s ci/tests, 406 tests OK.
  • Unit tests for both changes passed on their PRs: 54/54 Pro and 650/650 full.
  • Jenkins runs the full suite, signing and smoke tests on the merge commit.

Type of change

❌ Bug fix (A non-breaking change that fixes an issue)
❌ New feature (A non-breaking change that adds functionality)
❌ Breaking change (A fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to not work as expected)
❌ Refactor (A code change that neither fixes a bug nor adds a feature)
❌ Performance (A code change that improves performance)
❌ Style (Code style changes)
❌ Docs (Changes to documentation)
✅ Chore (Changes to the build process or other tooling)
