When enabled under This Mac, the client captures the front window as a take starts, recognizes its text on-device with Vision, and ranks unusual words (names, identifiers, words the spell checker does not know). Up to 40 terms are sent with the finish request and follow shared vocabulary in Whisper's prompt. Screenshots and recognized text never leave the Mac; emails, URLs, paths, and long numbers are never sent. History lists each take's terms. API version 3 adds the optional screenContextTerms field. Drop web addresses before ranking, cap ranking at 3,000 tokens, cancel capture on timeout, and propagate cancellation into recognition. The server stores only well-formed terms and appends them only while the helper's vocabulary limits still hold. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Treat dotted hosts with ports, queries, or any lowercase non-file suffix as web addresses, and cancel the active Vision request when capture is cancelled or times out. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Some domains are sent A domain ending in a listed file extension, such as
team.md, skips the domain check. Even team.md:8443 is retained as team.md because this branch also skips the port check. One occurrence ranks highly enough to be sent and stored, despite the promise that domains stay on the Mac.
How this was verified: The file-extension branch skips address rejection, and the ranked term flows into the finish request.

Fixed in b1d59c2. Extensions that are also country domains (.cc, .md, .py, .rs) now keep the file-name exception only when the name looks like a file, meaning it has an uppercase letter or an underscore (README.md, CHANGELOG.md). team.md, team.md:8443 and shop.rs now drop the whole chunk.

Hints come from wrong window When a floating editor has keyboard focus above a document window, this code can select the document instead of the editor. Dictation uses accessibility focus to find the insertion destination, so the take can receive Whisper hints from a window the user is not dictating into.

Fixed in b1d59c2. The capture now reads the Accessibility focused window (the same focus that delivery uses) and matches the same app's window-list entry by frame, at any layer, so floating editors and panels supply their own hints. It falls back to the frontmost normal window only when the focused window can't be read.

Qualified identifiers lose hints
If screen OCR reads os.Logger or package.Type in a code window, the new lowercase-first-label check treats the identifier as a web address and skips it before vocabulary ranking. Dictation loses spelling help for those identifiers, a non-blocking reduction in hint quality.

Screen Hints Require Accessibility
If a user grants Input Monitoring and Screen Recording but not Accessibility, dictation can start with screen hints enabled, but the focused-window lookup cannot obtain a frame. With the normal-window fallback removed, capture returns no terms, so takes in this permission setup lose their screen hints.

Fixed in cbabe3b. Screen hints do need Accessibility to find the focused window, and the frontmost-window fallback was removed deliberately after the CodeRabbit finding about reading the wrong window. Preferences now warn "Allow Accessibility below so screen hints can find the window you are dictating into." when the setting is on without Accessibility, and the architecture doc lists both permissions.

Screen terms now follow dictionary names as Qwen proofreading hints (dictionary keeps priority in the shared budget and full validator trust; screen terms get neither source joining nor equivalence). API bumps 4 -> 5. Default cleanup prompt now tells Qwen to use preferred spellings for sound-alike words, without which it ignores the hints. Hardening from adversarial review: credential-shaped tokens are filtered on-device (vendor prefixes, shape rules, per-segment spell-check coverage with an uncovered-run cap), the captured window is the system-wide focused window with revalidation and ambiguous frame matches fail closed, country-extension domains no longer slip through the filename exception, and correction term-joining never merges across a negation.

ScreenContext.terms runs ranking and spell checks synchronously on MainActor. On a dense window, thousands of checks can freeze the controls and delay finishing a take. The timeout in value(waitingAtMost:) also needs MainActor, so it cannot interrupt this work after 500 ms.
Split ranking into small batches that yield and check the deadline.

Review triage for the Qwen-live update (22986ff + 485bc47): Fixed

All checks pass on 485bc47. Server path verified live with real Parakeet + Qwen models (see PR description); a desktop take in Inlay Dev with the recommissioned capture is still outstanding. |
Summary
Adds an opt-in Use on-screen words as vocabulary hints setting under This Mac, modeled on Cotypist's on-device screen-context reading. When a take starts, the Mac captures the window with keyboard focus (system-wide Accessibility focused element matched to its window-list entry, via ScreenCaptureKit), reads its text on-device (Vision, language correction off), and ranks unusual words: names, identifiers, camelCase, acronyms, and words the spell checker does not know. Up to 40 go to the server with the finish request and follow the shared dictionary names as Qwen cleanup (proofreading) hints, so they only use leftover hint budget.
This PR originally fed Whisper's prompt. Main has since moved to Parakeet, which has no vocabulary prompt (an earlier commit on this branch made the feature dormant). This update merges current main and makes the feature live through the Qwen cleanup stage instead:
FinishGenerationRequestrejects unknown fields, so a v4 server returns 400 when sentscreenContextTerms; the client's exact-version gate means client and server must update together. Existing installs keep their stored cleanup prompt (see below).screenContextTermson the record only when text correction is enabled, and appends them after dictionary names in the bounded hint list sent to Qwen.proofreadingHintsreflects exactly what Qwen received. Screen terms get less validator authority than dictionary terms: they never join split source words and never get the near-spelling equivalence exemption, so an on-screen word can't make a word-swap free — a repair toward an on-screen spelling must pass the same wording-preservation checks as any other edit (in practice this means names get fixed in sentences of ~5+ words, not in very short ones).Privacy: the screenshot and recognized text never leave the Mac. Emails, URLs, domains, paths, long numbers, and credential-shaped tokens are filtered on-device before ranking (layered: known vendor key prefixes, shape rules, and per-segment spell-check subword coverage with a cap on consecutive uncovered letters). It's a heuristic boundary, not a proof: measured residual leak for random unknown-vendor tails is ≲2% depending on shape, word-salad passphrases are indistinguishable from identifiers, and History shows exactly what was sent.
Does it help? (from the Whisper-era evals)
The original evals (run outside the repo against
inlay-engine, whisper large-v3-turbo) measured ranked screen terms cutting WER 30.6% → 12.3% and key-term recall 34.3% → 73.1% across 16 context scenarios, which is why ranked terms rather than raw OCR text are sent. The Qwen path is weaker by construction: it can only respell what Parakeet already transcribed in longer sentences, and only when Qwen proposes it. No equivalent eval has been run for the Parakeet+Qwen path yet.Verification

Original rounds: GPT-6.1 Sol, Greptile, CodeRabbit (see earlier comments). This update went through further adversarial Claude/Codex rounds, which found and fixed: credential-token leakage classes, wrong-window capture (frontmost vs focused app, ambiguous frame matches), country-extension domains (
Bank.MD) slipping the filename exception, screen terms inheriting dictionary-level validator trust, and a pre-existing validator hole where term joining could merge a negation away ("not able" → "Notable") — joining now never crosses a negation word, for dictionary terms too.

Confidence Score: 5/5
No blocking findings remain. The two outstanding previous concerns affect hint coverage and app responsiveness but do not make this PR unsafe to merge.Findings

Summary
This PR adds optional on-screen vocabulary hints to Qwen proofreading. Screenshots and recognized text stay on the Mac; selected terms are sent to the server.
