Needs iOS SDK 7.0.0-beta7 (pinned since #94). It follows bugsee/bugsee-cocoa#249 (merged), which adds com.bugsee.option.capture.crash-handler-type and removes the mach-exceptions BOOL; the published beta7 binary contains the key.

Change

  • IOSLaunchOptions.CrashHandlerType (write-only) with a new CrashHandlerType enum carrying the SDK's values: BSD = 1 (BSD signal handlers), Mach = 2 (Mach exception handler plus BSD for SIGABRT; other signals raised by software are not reported), MachAndBSD = 3 (both, the SDK default). Sent as its int value, as the other enum options are.
  • Options.CaptureCrashHandlerType: the key.
  • iOS only: Android has no Mach exceptions, and tvOS runs every value as BSD.
  • IOSLaunchOptions summary: it now has iOS-only properties.
  • CHANGELOG entry.

Why there is no BugseeEnableMachExceptions

The 6.x Unity wrapper sent that key, a BOOL. The iOS SDK removes the BOOL instead of mapping it onto the new option and ignores its key with a one-time console warning: a BOOL cannot name three modes, its "on" meant Mach alone in 6.x and Mach + BSD in the 7.x betas, and two ways to set one thing would need precedence rules. This wrapper never exposed the BOOL, so it only adds the new option.

Verification

  • Not compiled: no Unity editor or C# compiler on this machine. The change is a new enum, one constant and one write-only property following the existing VideoQuality / CaptureVideoQuality pattern; the new .meta has a fresh GUID.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added an iOS option to select BSD, Mach, or both crash handlers. If not specified, both are used by default. This option is available with iOS SDK 7.0.0-beta7 and later.
    • On tvOS, all choices use BSD; Android does not support Mach exceptions.
  • Compatibility
    • The iOS SDK ignores the legacy BugseeEnableMachExceptions setting.

The changes add the public CrashHandlerType enum and the CaptureCrashHandlerType option key. IOSLaunchOptions adds a write-only property that stores the selected enum value as an integer. The documentation identifies MachAndBSD as the default when the property is omitted and describes platform-specific behavior. The changelog also documents the option and the unsupported, ignored BugseeEnableMachExceptions key.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 36862

The new crash-handler option needs iOS SDK 7.0.0-beta7 or later. Confirm the bundled iOS dependency meets that version; otherwise the option may silently have no effect. The change is otherwise small and low risk.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 36862

The option follows the existing launch-options path and does not establish a new privilege or external entry point. Risk is low, but native interpretation and handler cleanup across lifecycle transitions remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated control affects crash interception in the embedding iOS application's SDK instance. The reviewed change does not establish cross-tenant or cross-service authority; native effects beyond the forwarded option remain unverified.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • inferred — The new producer is application configuration code, with the native SDK remaining the consumer across the existing serialization boundary. An unchanged SetCustomOption escape hatch already permits arbitrary option keys and values, so the typed setter does not itself grant a previously unavailable configuration authority. No attacker-controlled route to the new setter was established.

Review of #89: IOSLaunchOptions.CrashHandlerType

  • Read the diff and the surrounding code
  • Checked the option path from IOSLaunchOptions to the native iOS call
  • Posted the review

I read the change in context. I did not compile it or run any tests, and the PR says the same. I found no real issues, so there are no inline comments.

What I checked

  • Wire format: IOSBridge.Launch and Relaunch serialize the option map to JSON (ToJsonObject) and pass it to BugseeUnityBridge.mm. That file deserializes it with NSJSONSerialization and passes it to launchWithToken:andOptions:. The setter stores (int)value, so the key reaches the SDK as an NSNumber. This is the same path CaptureVideoQuality uses.
  • Enum values: The values match what the PR describes (BSD = 1, Mach = 2, MachAndBSD = 3). I can't check them against the native SDK from this repo.
  • Name resolution: The property and its type are both called CrashHandlerType. That compiles, because C# resolves a member with the same name as its type. The <see cref="CrashHandlerType"/> in Options.cs resolves to the enum, since Options has no member with that name.
  • Android: The property is only on IOSLaunchOptions, so Android launch options never get the key. AndroidOptionsMapper has no handling for it and doesn't need any.
  • Unity assets: The new .meta file follows the same format as VideoQuality.cs.meta. Its GUID, 02de5f83…, doesn't appear anywhere else in the repo.
  • Default behavior: Unset keys are omitted by Set, so the SDK's own default (MachAndBSD) still applies.
  • Dropping BugseeEnableMachExceptions: Not mapping the old key is consistent with the CHANGELOG and PR description. The wrapper never exposed it.

Minor notes (no action needed)

  • Branch base: The branch is behind origin/main, so its docs still say 7.0.0-beta5 (Tools~/versions.env, BugseePackageVersion.IosSdkVersion, Documentation~/index.md). The beta7 pin comes from iOS: adopt bugsee-cocoa 7.0.0-beta7, with a local-package option #94. Merging main in or rebasing will pick it up, and this PR doesn't touch those files. I would merge only after the pin from iOS: adopt bugsee-cocoa 7.0.0-beta7, with a local-package option #94 is in, because the CHANGELOG entry says "iOS SDK 7.0.0-beta7+".
  • OptionsBuilder: There is no SetCrashHandlerType helper. OptionsBuilder stores keys under the Android Options constants and the iOS-only property isn't needed there. The key constant is public, so builder.Set(Options.CaptureCrashHandlerType, (int)CrashHandlerType.BSD) works. Add a helper only if you want builder parity.
  • Out-of-range values: (CrashHandlerType)0 or (CrashHandlerType)5 goes through unchecked, and I can't tell from this repo how the native SDK handles it. This is the same as the other enum options, so I'm not reporting it as a finding.

Summary

  1. Overall risk: Low. The change is one enum, one constant and one write-only property, all following the VideoQuality pattern.
  2. Merge recommendation: Approve once it builds in a Unity project. The branch should also pick up the beta7 pin from iOS: adopt bugsee-cocoa 7.0.0-beta7, with a local-package option #94 first.
  3. Most important issues: None.
  4. Positives:
    • The change is small and matches the existing option pattern.
    • The XML docs state the platform scope (iOS only, tvOS runs every value as BSD).
    • The PR description explains why there is no BugseeEnableMachExceptions mapping.
    • The CHANGELOG entry is clear.

Comment thread Runtime/Contracts/Options/IOSLaunchOptions.cs
iOS SDK 7.0.0-beta7 adds com.bugsee.option.capture.crash-handler-type,
which chooses how the crash reporter intercepts crashes: 1 BSD signal
handlers, 2 a Mach exception handler (plus BSD for SIGABRT), 3 both, the
default. Expose it as IOSLaunchOptions.CrashHandlerType with a
CrashHandlerType enum carrying the SDK's values, and the key as
Options.CaptureCrashHandlerType. It is iOS only: Android has no Mach
exceptions, and tvOS runs every value as BSD.

Why there is no BugseeEnableMachExceptions here: the 6.x Unity wrapper sent
that key, a BOOL. The iOS SDK removes the BOOL instead of mapping it onto
the new option, and ignores its key with a one-time console warning:
- A BOOL cannot name three modes, and its "on" never meant one thing: in
6.x YES installed Mach alone, in the 7.x betas it installed Mach + BSD.
Translating YES/NO would pick a mode the user never chose.
- Two ways to set one thing would need precedence rules.
- The wrapper bundles the SDK it is built for, so the new key ships in the
  same release as the SDK.
This wrapper never exposed the BOOL, so it only adds the new option.

IOSLaunchOptions had no iOS-only properties yet; its summary no longer
says they wait for an RC.

Review of #89: IOSLaunchOptions.CrashHandlerType (re-review after push)

  • Read the diff against origin/main and the surrounding code
  • Checked the option path from IOSLaunchOptions to the native iOS call
  • Checked the CodeRabbit finding and my earlier review notes against the current branch
  • Posted the review

I read the code and ran git diff and grep. I did not compile it or run tests, because there is no Unity editor here. I found no real issues, so there are no inline comments.

Earlier findings that are now stale

  • CodeRabbit ("update the SPM pin to beta7+"): This no longer applies. That review ran against the old base 8f8100c. The branch now sits directly on iOS: adopt bugsee-cocoa 7.0.0-beta7, with a local-package option #94 (e6bcef3), and Tools~/versions.env:16 and Runtime/BugseePackageVersion.cs:15 both say 7.0.0-beta7. Documentation~/index.md also says beta7. This PR doesn't touch those files and doesn't need to.
  • My earlier "branch is behind main, docs say beta5" note: Fixed by the rebase. The beta7 pin is in the history now.

What I checked

  • Wire path: IOSBridge.Launch and Relaunch call ToJsonObject(WithWrapperInfo(OptionPlatformGate.ForIos(options))) (IOSBridge.cs:139, :154). ForIos only drops keys in the Android-only set, and the new key isn't in it. The setter stores (int)value through Set, the same way CaptureVideoQuality does at BugseeLaunchOptions.cs:195. The key reaches the SDK as a number.
  • Naming: The property and its type are both called CrashHandlerType. C# allows this. <see cref="CrashHandlerType"/> in Options.cs resolves to the enum, because Options has no member of that name.
  • Unset behavior: Set is only called when the property is assigned, so the SDK default (MachAndBSD) still applies. The XML doc says so.
  • Unity assets: The new GUID 02de5f83… appears in exactly one .meta file in the repo.
  • Android: The property is only on IOSLaunchOptions, so Android launches never get it. Passing the key by hand through OptionsBuilder or SetCustomOption would put an unknown key on the Android path. That is an unusual call and I can't see how the Android SDK treats it from this repo, so I'm not reporting it.
  • Enum values: BSD = 1, Mach = 2 and MachAndBSD = 3 match the PR description. I can't check them against the native SDK from this repo.

Minor notes (no action needed)

  • Samples~/BugseeMiniGame/.../BugseeSampleBootstrap.cs:199-202 sets the key through SetCustomOption, with a comment that mentions a "draft" IOSLaunchOptions.CrashHandlerType. You could switch it to iosOptions.CrashHandlerType = (CrashHandlerType)handlerType; and fix the comment. That is optional and unrelated to correctness.
  • There is no OptionsBuilder.SetCrashHandlerType helper. builder.Set(Options.CaptureCrashHandlerType, (int)CrashHandlerType.BSD) works. Add a helper only if you want parity.
  • (CrashHandlerType)0 and other out-of-range values aren't validated. This is the same as the other enum options.

Summary

  1. Overall risk: Low. The change is one enum, one constant and one write-only property, all following the VideoQuality pattern.
  2. Merge recommendation: Approve once it compiles in a Unity project. Nothing else blocks it.
  3. Most important issues: None.
  4. Positives:
    • The change is small and matches the existing option pattern.
    • The docs state the platform scope: iOS only, and tvOS runs every value as BSD.
    • The PR description explains why BugseeEnableMachExceptions isn't mapped, and the CHANGELOG entry matches it.
