Android without the Bugsee Gradle plugin records no JS network events, silently, although the README says a bare app needs no Gradle changes #139
Found while documenting the 7.x beta (docs PR bugsee/docs#110). Checked against the source on main at 7.0.0-beta3; file:line references are to the SDK repo unless a repo is named. Not reproduced on a device unless a line says so.
android/build.gradle says JS fetch/XHR reach Bugsee's OkHttp interceptor only through the Bugsee Gradle plugin (it injects into OkHttpClient.Builder.build(), which React Native's NetworkingModule uses; lines ~144-150). The package README says a bare app "builds and launches with no Gradle changes". So a bare Android app that follows the install steps and skips the plugin runs fine but records no network events from fetch/XHR, with no warning. The Gradle plugin is also what uploads the R8 mapping and native symbols.
(The docs now state this on the Installation, Symbolication and FAQ pages.)
Suggested direction
Warn at launch (once, from JS or native) when the OkHttp interceptor was not injected, and make the README's install section list the plugin as required for network capture and symbolication on Android.
Activity
Do not pin okhttp in the module: react-android supplies it in an app
Document the probe's one extra factory call
Reword the test comment: the unit test does pin the SDK class name
