## Debugging

**Common issues:**
- `wayland-0 socket not found` → Weston failed to start; check display logs
- `failed to load drm driver` → GPU drivers not installed or hardware not supported
- `[WARN] D-Bus socket not found` → Missing `io.balena.features.dbus: '1'` label on display service; Plymouth may still hold the DRM lock
### `wayland-0 socket not found`

Weston failed to start. Check the display service logs for the underlying error.

### `failed to load drm driver`

GPU drivers are not installed or the hardware is not supported.

### `[WARN] D-Bus socket not found`

The `io.balena.features.dbus: '1'` label is missing on the display service. Plymouth may still hold the DRM lock.

### `no drm device found`

Weston could not find a display-capable (KMS) GPU device on the host, so the GPU driver is not loaded. On Raspberry Pi, make sure the `vc4-kms-v3d` overlay is enabled. A custom `BALENA_HOST_CONFIG_dtoverlay` replaces the default overlay list, so it must still include `vc4-kms-v3d`.

To check from the **Host OS** terminal:

```bash
ls -l /dev/dri /sys/class/drm
grep -E '^(dtoverlay|gpu_mem)' /mnt/boot/config.txt
dmesg | grep -iE 'vc4|v3d|drm'
```

If `/dev/dri` has no `card*` entries, the GPU driver is not loaded.
