fix(benchmark): --test-root-prefix is taken as given, its spaces included (Requested 135) - #1476
Ref the 4.2.6 tracker, Requested 135. Follow-up of #1449 (Requested 128), found while closing its review; the files it touches were in that PR, so it waited for the merge.
The defect
aeroftp-cli benchmark --test-root-prefix is documented as taken verbatim, but two functions trimmed it:
benchmark_remote_roots_from_prefix trimmed the prefix before nesting the run's scratch folder under it. A run asked for /data (a folder whose name ends in a space) scratched in /data, another folder, and a prefix of spaces only scratched in the root.
benchmark_effective_prefix trimmed a relative prefix on Proton Drive before placing it under the folder the session starts in, with the same result, and a prefix such as /x turned from relative into absolute.
The error for a scratch folder that could not be created also named the start folder trimmed: team was reported as team, and a start folder of spaces as the root.
The fix
The prefix and the start folder are used as given, spaces included. Only the slashes at the end of the prefix are dropped, as before; only an empty start folder means the root.
The class
Same class as the path trims of #1449. Every other whitespace trim in community_benchmark was read: they parse sizes, hosts, tokens and a provider id, not a path. The one that stays is scrub_private_paths, which trims the paths it hides from a shared report on purpose: a folder named with spaces only would otherwise match the report's indentation, and the trimmed form still covers the spaced one. It now says so in its doc comment. Outside the module, the CLI only rejects .. components and the null byte in the prefix, and AeroAgent's benchmark tool passes no prefix.
Tests
a_test_root_prefix_keeps_its_spaces (new): /data , /data /, data, /data and a prefix of spaces through benchmark_remote_roots_from_prefix; x, /x and spaces through benchmark_effective_prefix on Proton Drive, and /x untouched on SFTP.
ehud_368_a_refused_scratch_folder_names_where_it_was_made (extended): the error names the start folders team and as given.
a_test_root_prefix_with_edge_spaces_reaches_the_remote_as_given (new, through run()): a run with the prefix /data asks for /data and works below it, on the record of the folders it asked for (the ones it made are gone by its end).
a_refused_scratch_folder_names_the_start_folder_as_given (new, through run()): a scratch folder refused under the start folders team and names them as given. The in-memory remote gains refuse_mkdir, which refuses every folder.
Each trim put back turns a test red: the trim in benchmark_remote_roots_from_prefix and the one in benchmark_effective_prefix fail a_test_root_prefix_keeps_its_spaces; the one in scratch_dir_error fails ehud_368_a_refused_scratch_folder_names_where_it_was_made. A trim in run() itself, of the prefix it hands on or of the start folder it reports, fails the matching run() test.
Gate
On 3b383a7: cargo fmt --check, cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings, cargo check --locked --all-targets --no-default-features --features test-seed, and the 84 community_benchmark tests green. No Tauri command is added or removed.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Benchmark paths now preserve surrounding whitespace, including in Proton prefixes and remote roots. Leading spaces are retained, and trailing slashes continue to be removed from remote roots.
Scratch-folder error messages preserve the supplied folder name, including trailing or all-space names. An exactly empty folder is still displayed as /.
Documentation
Clarified that private-path matching trims paths before checking them; behavior is unchanged.
…uded
The option is documented as taken verbatim, but benchmark_remote_roots_from_prefix trimmed it before nesting the scratch folder under it, and on Proton Drive benchmark_effective_prefix trimmed a relative one: a run asked for `/data ` scratched in `/data`, another folder, and a prefix of spaces in the root. Both now keep its spaces; only the slashes at its end are dropped, as before.
The error of a scratch folder that could not be made named the start folder trimmed: `team ` was reported as `team`, and a start folder of spaces as the root. It is named as given.
Same class as the path trims of #1449 (Requested 128). The benchmark's other whitespace trims read sizes, hosts, tokens and a provider id, not a path; the report scrubber trims the paths it hides on purpose, since a folder named with spaces only would match the report's indentation, and now says so.

Benchmark prefix handling and scratch-folder error reporting now preserve supplied whitespace in paths. Tests cover Proton and SFTP prefixes, remote-root construction, and start-folder names.
Changes: Benchmark path whitespace
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Prefix handling and coverage src-tauri/src/community_benchmark/mod.rs, src-tauri/src/community_benchmark/tests.rs
Prefix helpers preserve spaces when constructing effective prefixes and remote roots. Tests cover Proton and SFTP paths. Documentation now says paths are trimmed before private-path matching.
scratch_dir_error maps only an empty start folder to / and otherwise retains the supplied value. Tests cover trailing-space and all-space folder names.
axpdev-lab/aeroftp#1449 — Changes benchmark path handling to preserve spaces in initial_path; this PR extends whitespace preservation to prefix helpers and error reporting.
axpdev-lab/aeroftp#1352 — Added benchmark_effective_prefix and Proton relative-prefix joining, which this PR updates to preserve prefix spaces.

Cover the refusal path with a spaced start folder.
The new assertions call scratch_dir_error directly with "team " and " ". They do not run the refusal branch in run. In that branch, initial_path reaches scratch_dir_error without a trim. The existing refusal test uses /data/live-tests and checks only Folder not found. The spaced-start test, a_relative_start_path_is_applied_once, does not set refuse_deep_mkdir and does not check an error string. A trim at this call site would not fail any of the inspected tests.
Add a run test that refuses the scratch folder with start folder team . Assert that the error contains in the profile's start folder 'team '.

Add a test for the refusal branch in run using the start folder `team `, and
assert the returned error contains `in the profile's start folder 'team '`.
Ensure the test exercises run rather than calling scratch_dir_error directly.
Add a run() test for a --test-root-prefix with edge spaces.
Add a run() test for a --test-root-prefix with edge spaces.
The new prefix tests call benchmark_remote_roots_from_prefix and benchmark_effective_prefix directly. No test passes a leading or trailing space through run(). If opts.test_root_prefix were trimmed before these helpers, the suite would still pass.
Assert on the mkdirs record, not on dirs. The run removes the folders it creates. With the prefix /data , the final dirs set is {"/data"} whether or not the prefix was trimmed. The mkdirs record keeps each mkdir argument as given.

Add an async test that sets opts.test_root_prefix to a value with leading or
trailing spaces and passes it through run; assert the untrimmed value appears in
the recorded mkdirs arguments. Use the existing options, remote, and run
helpers, and do not assert on dirs because run removes created folders.

…, end to end
The tests of this PR called the helpers directly, so a trim in `run()` before them would have passed:
- `a_test_root_prefix_with_edge_spaces_reaches_the_remote_as_given`: a run with `--test-root-prefix "/data "` asks for `/data ` and works below it. The folders it made are gone by its end, so the folders it asked for are the evidence.
- `a_refused_scratch_folder_names_the_start_folder_as_given`: a refused scratch folder under the start folders `team ` and ` ` names them as the profile has them. The in-memory remote gains a knob that refuses every folder.
Each is red when `run()` trims what it hands on (the prefix to `benchmark_effective_prefix`, the start folder to `scratch_dir_error`).

@coderabbitai Replies to the two follow-up comments of review 5725705775, both fixed in 3b383a7.
Cover the refusal path with a spaced start folder.
Added a_refused_scratch_folder_names_the_start_folder_as_given. It runs run() with the start folders team and on an in-memory remote that refuses every folder (a new refuse_mkdir knob: the existing refuse_deep_mkdir refuses three levels and deeper, and team /aeroftp-bench/<id> has two). The server's pwd does not confirm the relative start, so the scratch folder stays relative and the error names the start folder: the test asserts scratch folder '<start>/aeroftp-bench/ and in the profile's start folder '<start>':. It is red when the refusal branch passes initial_path.trim() to scratch_dir_error.
Add a run() test for a --test-root-prefix with edge spaces.
Added a_test_root_prefix_with_edge_spaces_reaches_the_remote_as_given, on the mkdirs record as suggested: the first folder asked for is /data , every one is /data or below /data /, the scratch folder is among them, and the run leaves only /data. It is red when run() hands prefix.trim() to benchmark_effective_prefix.
On 3b383a7: cargo fmt --check, cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings and cargo check --no-default-features --features test-seed pass, and the 84 community_benchmark tests pass.

@axpnet Thanks for the detailed update. The tests you describe cover both follow-up concerns:
a_refused_scratch_folder_names_the_start_folder_as_given exercises run() through folder-creation refusal and checks that error messages preserve trailing-space and spaces-only start folders.
a_test_root_prefix_with_edge_spaces_reaches_the_remote_as_given checks the exact paths sent to the remote, so trimming inside run() cannot pass unnoticed.
The reported mutation checks show that both tests detect the original trimming behavior. I have not independently inspected 3b383a7f3 or rerun the checks.
If you found this review helpful, would you consider giving us a shout-out on X?
@coderabbitai Please inspect 3b383a7 itself (the two tests and the refuse_mkdir knob in src-tauri/src/community_benchmark/tests.rs, the only file it changes) and confirm whether the two follow-ups are addressed on this head.

@axpnet I inspected 3b383a7f3 directly. It matches the checked-out head and changes only src-tauri/src/community_benchmark/tests.rs. Both follow-ups are addressed.
Spaced start folder on refusal:a_refused_scratch_folder_names_the_start_folder_as_given calls run() with "team " and " ". It checks that both the scratch path and the profile start-folder text preserve those values. Passing initial_path.trim() to scratch_dir_error would fail these assertions.
Prefix preserved through run():a_test_root_prefix_with_edge_spaces_reaches_the_remote_as_given passes "/data " through BenchmarkOptions. It checks the first mkdir request, all requested directory paths, creation below the spaced prefix, and cleanup back to only the original "/data". Trimming the prefix before benchmark_effective_prefix would fail these assertions.
refuse_mkdir behavior: The knob defaults to false. When enabled, it records each mkdir request and returns an error before inserting the directory. Unlike refuse_deep_mkdir, it rejects the relative paths used by the refusal test.
This confirms the coverage by source inspection. I did not run the tests or repeat the mutation checks.
