An agent looking for a Cloudflare token ran about ten codemode-mcp op find commands, and the owner had to approve each one. The daemon already merges finds with the same reason into one prompt when they arrive within 250 ms. Each CLI call carried only one query, though, so separate shell commands never shared an approval, and repeating an identical search asked again.

Changes

  • op find takes a repeatable --also WORDS, up to 8 queries per call. The CLI sends every query to /admin/op/find at once, so the daemon's existing batching asks once. It prints a JSON list of each query with its items and more. A single query prints the same output as before. Each query is checked before any is sent, so a malformed one can't leave the others prompting.
  • An approved find answer is kept for 10 minutes in KeptValues::finds, keyed by the cleaned reason and the query. A later find with the same reason and query is answered without asking. forget (service restart --fresh) clears kept answers, and a batch approved while a forget runs keeps nothing. On a hub, the reason includes the spoke's name, so kept answers stay per spoke. The answers name items and references, never values, which the owner already approved for that reason.
  • The MCP guidance and the find_references description now tell agents to:
    • put other names for the same thing in one query;
    • use --also or asyncio.gather for separate searches;
    • never run finds one after another;
    • rerun an identical search instead of rewording it.
  • docs/operations.md and docs/design.md describe both changes.

Verification

  • cargo clippy --all-targets is clean, and cargo test passes (104 unit, 188 gateway).
  • The new gateway test one_op_find_asks_once_for_every_query_and_a_rerun_asks_nothing checks three things:
    • a two-query op find gives one prompt and the right matches for each query;
    • an identical rerun gives the same output with no prompt, even while the Mac is set to deny;
    • a different reason prompts again.
  • The new test fails when the kept-answer lookup is disabled.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Search for multiple 1Password queries with one approval using op find --also or concurrent searches with the same reason. Results are returned in query order.
    • Approved results are reused for up to 10 minutes when the query and reason match, avoiding another approval prompt. forget and service restart --fresh clear cached results.
  • Documentation

    • Updated search guidance to explain query matching, multi-search options, result limits, approval behavior, and cached results.

An agent ran each `op find` as its own command and was prompted for
every one, including searches it repeated after misreading the output.

`op find` now takes `--also` for extra queries and sends them together,
so the daemon's batching asks once. An approved find is kept for 10
minutes, so the same query with the same reason answers without asking.
The agent guidance says to combine searches and rerun instead of
rewording.

📝 Walkthrough

op find accepts multiple queries, submits them concurrently with a shared reason, and returns results in query order. Successful find answers are cached for 10 minutes by cleaned reason and query. forget clears cached answers.

Changes: Find batching and caching

Layer / File(s) Summary
Store and clear approved find answers
src/secrets.rs, docs/design.md
OnePassword stores find answers by optional reason and query with dual-clock expiry. forget clears cached answers, and a changed forgotten generation prevents newly approved answers from being stored.
Reuse answers and handle batch approval
src/companion/find.rs
find_for_program checks for a live matching answer before requesting approval. Successful batch responses store each query’s result and source.
Submit multiple searches and return results
src/companion.rs, src/main.rs, src/guidance.rs, src/env_files.rs, docs/operations.md, tests/gateway/companion.rs
op find validates and submits queries concurrently, preserves their order, and returns one object or a list. Documentation and tests cover multi-query searches and answer reuse.

Forget may leave an approved search answer available, and same-name spokes may reuse each other’s approved results. Resolve both isolation gaps before merging.

Comment @coderabbitai help to get the list of available commands.

A find was batched and kept under its reason alone. On a hub, a local
program that claimed a spoke's prefixed reason could join that spoke's
batch or get its kept answers. Finds are now keyed by the requester's
scope, the spoke's ID on a hub, as well as the reason.

- Line 1071: Update the forget operation around kept.finds.clear() so approved
answers cached during the wait for known are also invalidated before forget()
returns. Clear or invalidate kept answers after clearing known, or make both
clears atomic while preserving a safe lock order.
- Line 1159: Update the find-cache key used by spoke_reason to include the spoke
ID as a separate scope, matching the read path’s keep_scope behavior, so spokes
with the same name cannot share cached approvals.

A read or find kept while forget waited for the known values could
outlast the forget. Clearing the kept grants and finds last means
nothing kept during that wait survives it.
