The goal of this project is to build robots for the RoboCup Smart Manufacturing League (SML) together in a mixed team of high school pupils and university students. These robots will be used to develop, test, and present practical showcases at the RoboCup German Open in Cologne from March 10 to 14, 2026.
With these showcases, the project wants to support the Smart Manufacturing League in creating future-ready and realistic scenarios for competitions. The SML is a so-called Major League that mainly targets universities and colleges. At the same time, the project aims to help introduce an entry-level league for high school teams, similar to the Rapidly Manufactured Robot Competition (RMRC) in the RoboCup Rescue League.
Both leagues follow the idea of open and shared knowledge. Designs, documentation, and experiences are made openly available so that new school teams can get started more easily. This open approach helps lower entry barriers and encourages more students to join robotics and RoboCup activities.
