You don't need to read them to the core. They are just to get the general idea. As time goes by, you'll revisit them and get acquinted with the ideas a little better. Perhaps the Erwan's presentation, the first paper and a bit through the rest to get a general idea of applications).
The main questions you should be abe to understand and answer are:
a) What's the motivation in using Scattering Transforms?
b) How can they be used in order to generate new maps?
c) How can they be used in order to seperate components in a situation where I have data d = s + c.
