Follow-up to #133. Two things: the eval architecture diagram for the ## Evals section, and a logo for the README header and the repo social preview.

1 · Eval architecture diagram

How the four product workflows in openbot/domain/workflows.py (triage / review / fix / chat) are measured, offline and online.

OFFLINE — v0.1, built. Benchmark datasets → Inspect AI task → thin solver → openbot.evaluation → the production agent and sandbox → scorers + prediction export → official harness grading → LangSmith writeback. The point the diagram makes visually is that step 4 is the shipped code path, not an eval-only copy of it.

ONLINE — v0.3, planned. Production runs → auto-instrumented traces → GitHub outcome signals → online eval + annotation queue → 30-day trend metrics.

Both lanes land in one LangSmith substrate, and a coverage strip names each workflow's offline and online suite.

Showing the gap rather than hiding it

Solid borders are built today; dashed borders are specified in the eval PRD but not implemented. That split is load-bearing, because the online lane is only half-real:

  • LANGSMITH_TRACING on web + worker already exists — every agent run lands in LangSmith today (solid).
  • The GitHub outcome-signal collector does not exist (dashed).
  • The online judge / annotation-queue loop does not exist (dashed).
  • Triage has no solver in evals/ at all — ls evals/solvers/ is review, fix, chat, test_generation.

Sources: docs/prd/openbot-eval-prd.md §3, §6, §7, §8 and docs/prd/openbot-eval-suites.md §1–§6.

Two places where I deliberately did not flatten the PRD:

  • fix's v0.3 row is fix_swe_bench_live, a rolling public benchmark, not a production signal like the other three. The card says rolling benchmark, not prod.
  • test_swt_bench is a fifth eval surface, not a product workflow, so it is named in the offline lane and the footer but gets no coverage card.

Shared emitter

scripts/_diagram_svg.py extracts the Style 2 SVG emitter that #133 introduced, so this second generator does not duplicate the first — relevant because SonarCloud gates duplication on new code. The runtime diagram regenerates byte-identically across that refactor, so docs/assets/openbot-architecture.svg is unchanged in this PR.

2 · Logo and social preview

A mark for the README header plus a 1280×640 social preview.

The subject is a tortoise: it carries its own shell the way a self-hosted deployment carries its own keys and data, and it is calm and unhurried — fitting for a bot that comments and opens PRs but never auto-merges. Built to the ip-as-logo design brief: one dominant silhouette from five large shapes, one species-defining feature (the broad flat shell), two IP colours plus one solid background, no outlines/gradients/texture, readable at 32×32.

Asset Use
docs/assets/openbot-logo.svg README header
docs/assets/openbot-logo.png raster, for avatar uploads
docs/assets/openbot-social-preview.svg 1280×640 source
docs/assets/openbot-social-preview.png manual step: Settings → Social preview

The social preview cannot be set through the GitHub API — it needs a one-time upload in repo Settings.

Authored as vector rather than raster: no image generator is configured in this environment, and the brief's complexity budget — a handful of flat geometric shapes in three flat colours — is expressible exactly in SVG, which also scales and diffs better as a README asset.

Verification

  • ruff format --check scripts/ and ruff check scripts/ clean.
  • Both diagram SVGs pass all six gates of the diagramming skill's validator under the strict showcase profile: zero edge crossings, ≤2 bends per edge, ≥40 px between nodes, 20 px container gutters.
  • Every SVG exported to PNG and visually reviewed. Fixes that came out of review: an unreadable badge on the dimmest node, a wrong PRD section reference, the fix card overstating fix_swe_bench_live, the logo silhouette reading as a mushroom until the shell was flattened, and CodeRabbit's catch that the built offline lane was drawn with a dashed (= not built) border.
  • No Python under openbot/ or evals/ is touched; scripts/ is outside both pytest.ini testpaths and the import-linter root package.

Known warning, not addressed

CodeRabbit's pre-merge Docstring Coverage 20% < 80% is its own configured threshold, not this repo's standard — pyproject.toml selects E/F/I/B/UP/SIM/C4/RUF with no pydocstyle rules, and CI's Lint (Ruff) passes. Adding docstrings to one-line SVG emitter methods would be noise; say the word if you'd rather match the bot's threshold.

Adds a second generated SVG to the Evals section covering how the four
product workflows in openbot/domain/workflows.py (triage / review / fix /
chat) are measured, in two lanes over one LangSmith substrate:

OFFLINE (v0.1, built) benchmark datasets -> Inspect AI task -> thin
                          solver -> openbot.evaluation -> the production
agent and sandbox -> scorers + prediction export
-> official harness grading -> writeback

  ONLINE (v0.3, planned)  production runs -> auto-instrumented traces ->
GitHub outcome signals -> online eval and
annotation queue -> 30-day trend metrics

Solid node borders are built today; dashed borders are specified in the
eval PRD but not implemented, so the diagram shows the gap rather than
hiding it — auto-tracing already exists, while the outcome-signal
collector and the online judge do not, and triage still has no solver in
evals/. A coverage strip names each workflow's offline and online suite.

Also extracts the shared Style 2 SVG emitter into scripts/_diagram_svg.py
so the two diagram generators cannot drift apart visually and the second
one does not duplicate the first. The runtime diagram regenerates
byte-identically across that refactor, so docs/assets/openbot-architecture.svg
is unchanged in this commit.

Shared SVG rendering foundation
scripts/_diagram_svg.py
Adds reusable SVG rendering for metadata, gradients, containers, semantic edges, themed nodes, labels, badges, and legends.
Existing diagram renderer migration
scripts/build_architecture_diagram.py
Replaces local SVG assembly and styling with the shared Canvas renderer.
Evaluation diagram generation and documentation
scripts/build_eval_architecture_diagram.py, README.md
Adds the evaluation diagram generator and documents the implemented offline lane, planned online lane, LangSmith usage, and workflow coverage.

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~25 minutes

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 8c833

The README’s new evaluation diagram currently renders the built offline lane with a dashed border, making implemented and planned workflow areas appear inconsistent. This is a localized documentation-generation issue that should be corrected or explicitly accepted before merge.

The eval diagram's footer states "solid = built today · dashed =
specified in the eval PRD but not built", but Canvas.container hardcoded
stroke-dasharray, so the BUILT offline lane and the coverage panel were
both drawn in the not-built style — the diagram contradicted its own
legend on the one distinction it exists to make.

container() now takes dashed=True by default, so a dashed boundary stays
the plain grouping convention and the runtime diagram is untouched; the
eval diagram passes the status explicitly per container. The runtime SVG
regenerates byte-identically.

The subject is a tortoise: it carries its own shell the way a self-hosted

which matches a bot that comments and opens PRs but never auto-merges.
Built to the ip-as-logo design brief — one dominant silhouette from five

so it stays readable at 32x32.

  docs/assets/openbot-logo.png raster for avatar uploads
  docs/assets/openbot-social-preview.svg 1280x640 source
docs/assets/openbot-social-preview.png upload via Settings > Social preview

Authored as vector rather than raster: no image generator is configured
