Add the Android beta page, Android privacy details and account deletion - #164
Conversation
- /android/ explains how to join the closed beta: Google Group first, then the Play opt-in. Both links live in src/lib/android-beta.ts. - Release status lists Android as Beta; the footer links the beta page. - The privacy policy gains an Android section (on-device speech, cloud engines and writing profiles, keyboard, storage, Premium, no tracking), an account deletion section and the contact email. Last updated: October 2026. - /delete-account/ describes how to delete a Premium account in the app or by email, and what is and is not deleted, as Google Play requires. - check-i18n now also checks the privacy, Android and account deletion chunks.

The Premium service stores no email address, so a request by email could not be matched to an account. The deletion page and the privacy policy now point to app.typewhisper.com/account/delete, where users sign in with Google or Apple and delete the account themselves.

Provision the beta resources before publishing their links
In the new Android join flow, these URLs are the only two primary calls to action and must be used in sequence, but the commit description states that both the Google Group and closed test still need to be created. If this commit is deployed first, every prospective tester is blocked at step 1 or step 2, so provision and verify both resources before exposing the page and release-status link.

Addressed in 4507909: the page stays at /android/, but the footer and release status only link it once androidBeta.listed is set, after the closed test is published. The Google Group already exists.

Deploy the web deletion handler before advertising it
For users without access to the app, this URL is presented as the only way to delete an account, but a repo-wide search finds only this link and its href assertion, while the commit description explicitly lists the sign-in-and-delete page as outstanding. Until the corresponding app.typewhisper.com handler is deployed and verified, the new Google Play account-deletion flow sends affected users to an unavailable operation.

The handler is live: app.typewhisper.com#31 was merged and deployed; /account/delete and the Google start endpoint answer in production.

Qualify the open-source claim for Android
The new Android section says its source is not public, but the same rendered privacy page later states that visitors can audit the “entire” TypeWhisper source code on GitHub, and the footer still labels TypeWhisper generally as open source. Android visitors therefore receive mutually exclusive privacy and licensing claims; scope the later open-source language to the applicable editions or explicitly exclude Android.

Addressed in 4507909: the open source section now names what is on GitHub (macOS, Windows, plugins) and says the iPhone, iPad and Android apps are not published there yet; the Android section no longer repeats it.
…he open-source note - androidBeta.listed (false) hides the footer link and the release status entry; the page itself stays at /android/ for when the test is published. - The open source section names what is on GitHub (macOS, Windows, plugins) instead of claiming the entire source, and the Android section no longer contradicts it. - The web deletion page this PR links is live on app.typewhisper.com.

Account for Apple transaction records during deletion
For users deleting accounts created on iPhone, iPad, or Mac, this deletion summary omits the StoreKit transaction references that the same privacy policy says the entitlement service stores (src/i18n/locales/en/privacy.json:19). Because this page applies to Apple-platform accounts and presents an exhaustive “What is deleted” list, it should state whether those Apple purchase records are deleted or retained rather than naming only Google Play purchase records.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

StoreKit transaction references are stored as hashed source references in account_entitlements and are deleted with them. 4b6c050 says so explicitly on the page.

Reconcile Discord feedback with the privacy statement
When a beta tester follows the advertised Discord feedback option (src/i18n/locales/en/android.json:31-33), their feedback is posted through Discord rather than arriving only as an email from their mail app as asserted here. The privacy copy should acknowledge that feedback may be submitted through this third-party channel, or the Android page should stop presenting Discord as a feedback route; the German translations contain the same contradiction.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Fixed in 4b6c050: in-app feedback arrives only by email, and Discord's privacy policy applies to posts there.

Keep the unopened beta page out of search indexes
When androidBeta.listed is false, the footer and release-status guards do not fully keep this page unlisted: this BaseLayout call leaves it indexable, and scripts/sitemap-filter.mjs only excludes meta-refresh redirects, so Astro will publish /en/android/ and /de/android/ in the sitemap. Search engines can therefore surface the beta page while its Play opt-in is deliberately unavailable; pass noIndex={!androidBeta.listed} and exclude these routes from the sitemap until the flag is enabled.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Fixed in 0174d1e: the page sets noindex while androidBeta.listed is false, and the sitemap filter drops pages with a robots noindex meta tag, so /en/android/ and /de/android/ are no longer in the sitemap.
The page sets noindex while androidBeta.listed is false, and the sitemap filter now also drops pages that ask not to be indexed.

Disclose all Premium records in the Android section
When an Android Premium user signs in, this exhaustive “stores only” list omits the hashed session references that the same policy says the entitlement service stores at line 19 and that the deletion page promises to remove (delete-account.json:20); linked Polar license references are similarly described elsewhere but absent here. This gives Android users contradictory information about their account data, so include the common account records or avoid presenting this as a complete list.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.

Fixed in fb3da07: the Android section now lists the hashed account ID, install IDs, sign-in sessions, Google Play purchase tokens and a linked Polar license, plus the entitlement status.
